Disclosure Day has a scene that has always intrigued me. in it after the bad guy has taken control of Jane's body he speaks about stopping Jane's boyfriend Daniel, as Jane declines from doing it the bad guy (Scanlon) proceeds to quote the bible in an interesting way:

i find it interesting since christ never really continued his prayer at gethsemane with anything nor did he ever say what Jane replied with. i have been able to understand a lot of the more subtle messages in the movie but i still struggle to wrap my head around that one.

i also tried googling that particular scene but nothing came up, usually movies of these caliber have high quality scenes uploaded to youtube immediately when they become available so i wonder why they are so hard to find with this one.

The Anunnaki had been giving plagues to humanity, in an effort to lower their numbers.
Enlil, in command of Earth, wielder of lightning bolts, was displeased with Humanity and wanted them gone.
Enki, his brother, took pity on humans and secretly taught them to worship only 1 Anunnaki at a time, the one responsible for the current plague, to basically guilt trip them into stopping the plague. This works a few times before Enlil realises what Enki has done and punishes him by causing his power over the waters to flood the people. Enki teaches Ziusudra to build an ark. (This was turned into the Noah story, even down to releasing the birds from the ark and saving animals.)

So, Enlil finally agreed to spare the rest of humanity afterwards, allowing disease, child deaths and religious celibacy to control their population numbers.

However, Enlil had learned from his brother. He saw how easy the humans were to control when they all worshipped only 1 Anunnaki. He could punish Enki again for his betrayal, and take control of all the Earth, by doing the same.
Enlil became Yahweh of Armies, a monotheistic storm-god ruler that declared himself above all other “gods”. Enki was turned into “satan” for giving humanity forbidden knowledge (forbidden fruit)
Enlil and Enki.
Zeus and Prometheus.
Yahweh and Satan.
Humans filled in the gaps but the theme remained. A lightning-wielding entity punished another entity for giving humans forbidden knowledge.

How do you usually do meditation, /ceg/?

I try to pray the Rosary and do Lectio Divina every now and then. Sometimes I will also take pauses of silence when praying Vespers to reflect on the Psalms or Antiphons for a brief moment.

Lectio Divina has been the most helpful for me. I also used to read the Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis for meditation, but haven't done so in a long time?

I have been to the Latin Mass only two times, but it has been a very edifying and spiritually fulfilling experience.

I recommend for a Sunday Mass (most likely a Sung Mass (Missal Cantata)) to follow along with a small booklet containing the Ordo Missae (Order of the Mass) if possible. You don't need to buy a whole layman's missal, that would be too confusing and tedious for a beginner.
It is also possible for your first Mass just let sink in, going "passively" into it. While for the New Mass "active participation" has greatly increased, truly interior ("esoteric") spiritual participation has decreased significantly.
Luckily for the Latin Mass, technically you don't "need" to do really anything except be present, meditate, maybe by the grace rod God even contemplate the Mystery of Mysteries; the priest and his altar servers will do the work, you just need to embrace it as it comes (and God as well).

I highly recommend you though to read through the Scripture readings, or maybe even all the prayers (Propers of the Mass) through either the website divinum officium dot com or, which I even moreso recommend, get the free Sanctifica app.
By doing so you will able to understand the mysteries more.
You can read it the day before Mass (maybe try to do Lectio Divina with the Gospel reading?) or right before you go to Mass.

A new translation of Origen's exposition of four types of prayer is coming. I watched the interview with the translator, linked in the article I posted below and I can say that the final part was pretty interesting, the translator says that he will maintain the plural pronoun "we" used by Origen because he thinks not (only) that the "we" represents Origen and his scribes but that it might have a more deeper meaning, then he says that he received criticism from other academics due to this idea, which seems to be the classic academic prejudice against any more esoteric interpretations of early patristic texts.

Quite a few Jewish Kabbalists actually converted to Christianity because of their studies in the Kabbalah, such as Johan Kemper. I've heard of Paul Drach before and the quote you cited, but I'm not familiar with his work.

I've felt myself growing apart from God for the last couple months, the past month I went to mount Athos (I'm EO) and felt even more spiritual dryness, now I'm back and it's like my heart is hardened or something. Latin Mass server here. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, especially if you are worried about "fitting in" or understanding every single aspect of it.

If I can give you a piece of advice, it would be not to overthink it. Just go there, listen to the chant, absorb the silence and be reverent toward our Lord. You may not get all the latin or time your genuflections perfectly, but none of this actually matters: you are there to venerate the Sacrifice. Just do it the best way you can.

Imagine how this Mass was celebrated throughout the ages. The laity was often uninstructed, perhaps going there only as an ancient social norm. Nonetheless, the Latin Mass never failed to touch hearts and light some fire within. How many young men and women had their whole life defined by the simple image of the high elevation? How many artists found there the seed of their inspiration? How many saints, known and unknown to history?

It is just a matter of being present, knowing that you are taking part in what forged all the great saints of the Catholic tradition and, together with them, witnessing the Passion and Resurrection of our Lord.

I was following the discussion between you and the other anon and while I appreciate both of your insights regarding the conflation between modern jewry and the religion of the Old Testament, I also think that Paganism has a lot more to offer than your are giving it credit for.
It's probably prudent to make a distinction between "high paganism" and "low paganism" wherein the former is philosophically developed and monistic.
In a nutshell, I believe that Neoplatonism and Vedanta (specifically vishisht-advaita) are a lot closer to the truth than anything that identifies as "Jewish" after the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Concerning Kabbalah, I don't really understand the continued interest in it given the access English-speakers now have to Eastern Orthodox mysticism and things like Hermeticism, Neopythagoreanism, Neoplatonism, Vedanta, etc. Why would I put stock in the (recent) practices of a group of people who make denying Christ their first order of theological business?
That said, it can still lead people towards the Truth, as any process or system of truth-seeking can, but I don't understand how a Christian could find it preferable to good-faith pagan systems. From an Orthodox point of view, "Jews" simply do not exist anymore in a religious sense.

I've thought about something like this recently. I used to be rather troubled by how obscure or even repressed the feminine aspects of God seem to be by mainstream Christians, and how defenses of Marian dogmas seem so convoluted when many of the attributes could be more easily asserted in reference to Sophia and the maternal Holy Spirit.

But on the other hand, perhaps it's more appropriate for the masculine of God to want to preserve/protect the feminine aspects, like a man is supposed to protect and preserve woman. So Mary would sort of be like a distilled version of it in a sense, like not the feminine aspect of God herself but almost someone that stands in for it. Does anyone know what I mean? Has this line of thought ever been developed more in depth? It would make sense that God would only reveal that more tender, one might even say "sensual" aspect to his most devout followers?

All i can recommend is to trust in God's plan, i actually experienced something something similar a while back, i was praying to God like my life depended on it, i can't even remember what i prayed for. The next day, as i was going to an appointment, an complete stranger just told me
>God loves you.
He was waiting in line, and he told me that to mt face as i was walking past by him, he wasn't talking to anyone else.

This was during a depression phase and i was at my lowest, i had failed a class, my job applications were being ignored, and i was feeling very lonely because i have no friends anymore. I took it as a sign that God truly loved me, i don't think I'll ever doubt God again after that, it's just too big of a coincidence, i didn't pray often back then.

Just trust in God's plan, he loves you.

Why is there so much hesitance or unwillingness to refer to the Holy Spirit or Sophia as a "goddess" aspect within the Trinity?

Wondering if someone could comment on this. I've been praying the Rosary, fifteen decades each day for a wife, and rather than a woman I've received a number of signal graces related to the institution of marriage. Here are the notions I've received.

I've also wondered whether it's by the will of man or the will of God that one is born before baptism. For me, it feels silly to pray for a marriage and its pleasures because if God wants someone to be born, specifically under my parenthood, then He'd do it. I am embarrassed to say that it took me 6 years to realize this. I've been Christian 6 years, a Catholic for 3 or 4, and it took me until I was 23 to figure out that God should make a person out of me when He desires. I still don't know how to feel about that. Sometimes, I'm tempted, feeling like the years for which the pleasures of the flesh are passing by when at any time they could be satisfied with a woman. But I fear hell and I fear God, and I sometimes wonder how long it'll take for a person to find others like myself. Even among Catholic circles I feel out of place because I fear going to Hell while others do not. If anyone is older than I, does it get better over time?

I've experienced a large amount of demonic oppression for 8 years. Also known as scizophrenia.

At first I didn't understand and was very favourable to demons. A ghost demon sucked my cock saying "she liked a loopy boy" and in sleep paralysis I almost got raped by a demon with claws because I offered my ass to it, but it was going "Yes yes yes" while I was going "No noooo no" and thankfully I woke up.

In another episode I was catatonic which was very traumatic, seeing literal bugs on the glasses I was drinking water from, all the while i only watched christian broadcasts.

He called himself beezlebub from the bible lord of demons. and it wasnt fun. im on meds for life btw.

but ive had this female demon since childhood who wasnt as bad since she didnt torture me but i was always a weirdo and spaced out due to it. anyway she decided to leave and i got the prince of demons himself at one point turning me catatonic.

i don't think im demonically possessed at the moment but the damage has been done and i think about it everyday and worry about it happening again.

this is the closest this board will ever get to a christian thread in general, so i'll just ask for advice here.

Go to a Latin Mass, it's the only way a, Latin Rite, Catholic can immerse himself fully within the Faith. Most Novus Ordo parishes suffer from liturgical abuse (clapping in the Mass is the most common occurrence), and while the so called "Reverend Novus Ordo" Mass exists, it is quite literally the TLM but Ad Populum, as opposed to the Latin Mass which is Ad Orientem (and can still suffer from "mass innovations" as a father in the SSPX Podcast pointed out).

To the Romanian Orthodox anon who was messaging me on discord: Schmemann does NOT advocate for Protestant-style liturgical practices. He says that most of Orthodoxy today misunderstands the sacraments and symbolism in general because of the influence of Western Scholasticism reducing the liturgical activities of the church to a mere "consecratory formula" and taking symbolism as necessarily being "an illustration" of something "real," which implies the symbol is "not real." Filaret absorbed these assumptions in his Catechetical works BTW.

Mass should be the center of Christian life. If you feel like being close to the Blessed Virgin Mary with a rosary, go ahead, but if you simply want to pray because you believe it's what you should do, it's better to simply speak plainly with God. Dedicate a little time each day to speak simply and naturally with God, nothing more. More established prayers will come naturally when you feel the time is right.
You should talk to a priest. Even if you're not going to confession, take advantage of the confessional times each church offers to simply ask the priest for some advice in a more intimate setting.

It's all much simpler and more natural than the devotions you can find online.

I have this old document that was written for inquires of the Faith from a Discord server (that I've been on 100 times kek), it's reading exercises. Best book of probably all time for an introduction to meditation would be The Ways of Mental Prayer, never read it tho as I took notes on everything St. Ignatius (S.J.) said on his guides, meditated on the Catecheism of Mental Prayer, and have followed almost everything that St. Benedicto said in his book for monks "The Way of Benedict".

I've been exploring Eastern Orthodoxy and have a few questions maybe some of you could answer. Why has there been so much talk about the Catholic Church and many different sects of Eastern Orthodoxy sharing communion and even reuniting? Aren't there too many theological, structural, and liturgical differences between them? For example the Catholics view on Purgatory, indulgences, restrictions on priests, views on filioque (the Holy Spirit proceeding from the Father and Son vs just the Father), views on sin and salvation, etc. just to name a select few. Both groups hold that someone outside their church and theology is not saved so how would they share communion if they're so different? How would they share communion with another church that is "heretical?"
This also raises another question, could either church possibly share communion with a Protestant Church? Cyril I of Constantinople introduced some Protestant and Calvinist doctrines and ideas a few centuries ago? I've always viewed the major branches as follows:

>Orthodoxy places emphasis on TRADITION and ancient practices
>Protestants and their affiliates place emphasis on the SCRIPTURE
>Mormons aren't Christian

That isn't to say that the emphasis is on those qualities alone, just that those are considered their ultimate authorities. Proponents of all three each argue they're descended from the early church fathers and their practices however haven't they all deviated in some way? And if this is the case which would be considered the "true" church? How could they be reconciled?
And on a side note I am of Bulgarian descent but there is no Bulgarian Orthodox Church in my area, how would I go about selecting or choosing which to attend?

If there was any union between eastern and Latin churches it would be a false union built on lies, because, as you pointed out, opposing doctrines. If you're referring to Vatican ii, which says the eastern Orthodox are no longer, or never were ex communicated, that was never actually accepted in the East.
Not sharing communion isn't about excluding others it's about making sure they don't partake unprepared and get hurt (see ananias and sephira).

Protestants, and Catholics and Orthodox all say they are the earlier church but which one actually looks like it? Which one doesn't believe in doctrinal development? As for any deviation in the Orthodox Church, if you're referring to things like bishops no longer being married; these are not hard and fast rules but rather practical administrative tools which don't necessarily have to be followed. There are exceptions made all the time as there are plenty of modern bishops who are married (the modern practice of using a monk for a bishop is because they're so busy they would have no time for home life as far as I know).

So I obviously believe the eastern Orthodox Church is the true church and that reconciliation with other Christians would depend on them joining the true church. They could be western rite or something. There's a bunch of diverse liturgical traditions within the church. These aren't different sets, as they all believe and teach the same things, and their style of doing it is in continuity with the differences being complimentary rather than contradictory. I would visit each Orthodox Church in your area until you find where you like the people there.

I was (unfortunately) never baptized into the Orthodox Church (or any church), my family wasn’t religious and did not attend church regularly. In fact my mother is Catholic and my father’s side converted to Mormonism (I am not a Mormon) although neither practice now.
