I think a lot of people are holding out hope that aliens, god, or some tech mogul is going to save humanity. I don't believe anyone or anything like that is coming. I think prices will continue to rise while the quality of life will continue to decline for most. Limited resources- food, drinking water, fossil fuels will be fought over, and fiefdoms will emerge as the lights start to blink out in locations where logistics fail. The Strait of Hormuz looks bad (because it is), but the macro problem of a failing global economy is the real cancer to the relative flesh wound that is that strait. With the conflagration of climate issues (manmade or otherwise), dwindling natural resources, regional wars, and a general lack of welfare and prosperity for most, there's not much hope to be had for the future.People lament AI datacenters. Whatever promise they may hold is moot on a societal level if humans aren't willing to adopt the solutions they offer. Would multinational corporations sacrifice profit for the sake of the public's general welfare? Would governments prefer to work together rather than maximize GDP and coerce other countries to their will via conflict and subterfuge? Would the average person be willing to help another even if it offered no tangible benefit to them? There is no one coming to save us. We have to save ourselves, but I think the globe has more or less agreed on a civilizational suicide pact, whether they mean to do this or not. Actions speak louder than words, and all these talks of ceasefires, environmental protections, and philanthropic endeavors are empty talk. >"Don't worry, someone will fix it!"They won't. If someone has to come in and "fix things" when society breaks, you probably won't like what they do.
