>>42892630I don't think they were gunning for a long life lol. Before their orgies the Romans supposedly consumed cabbage and other foods that bolstered their guts against excessive alchohol. It's difficult to find official sources now but I've heard it explained that some ancient wines, especially some made and used by religious cults, included psychedelic ingredients that were also poisonous (containing lead or herbs like nightshades, or hemlock which is why it's in the myth of Socrates' death.) And that because of this these wines were used by sages, priests, and philosophers in what might've been the ancients' version of selling your soul for knowledge. they'd receive transformative visions and commune with the gods to produce whatever legendary epic or working, but the trade-off was their mind and body deteriorated to death over the days or week(s) they drank the wine. Not that all wine was like that, most was made and filtered normally then diluted at that, but that sort of Luciferian trade-off wasn't a bad thing in the Dionysians' book. Those ancient cults didn't tell the truth anymore than ours do and many Dionysians sought out alcohol/psychedelics looking for divinity only to be willing yet unwitting sacrifices to the god.
