It works backwards in time, first:

Please note, though, that this takes the shortest route, so if X can be achieved without requiring psychic powers, then the past generated to justify it may not include the psychic powers.
It's like wanting to win the lottery to get the money to buy a house, if X is the house, then someone can give it to you for free, without the money and the lottery winning on there.
So X needs to be something that absolutely requires psychic powers.

Grab a metal spoon and try to bend it with your mind. It takes a lot of practice so keep doing it for however long it needs to take until you finally bend the spoon with your mind only. Depending on your potential it could take decades of practice in order for it to work.
