I would say maybe it corresponds with the meanings of the left and right sides of the face. Right face being the external presentation of the self; left face being the internal subjective thoughts and feelings.

In this card, it's showing her left face. Fitting as the cup / water suit rules the emotional world.

There are various forms of correspondences. Some work together some don't. However, even within that qabbalistic system, it's way too reductive and simplified to think of those pillars like that.

The left and right face correspondences is something separate from qabbalah.

correspondences mean the same archetypes from qabbalah, only told in a different way. if you ask me, all the ancient mythology is just rebranded qabbalah.
you're right that the left and right goes deeper than just these 2 pillars. i never thought about the internal and external thing. i do know that "left-hand path" means occult and shadow meanings though.
