I've managed to have 2 lucid dreams, however both are very blurry and I have not been able to control much, the first one I woke up after 2 seconds after realizing that I am in a lucid dream and the second one I managed to walk around my house a bit before waking up, however the only time that lucid dreaming actually works for me is when I wake up naturally at like 6 to 7 and fall back asleep, then i get in a half-dream half-awake type of thing where i have a lucid dream but its very blurry and i cant spawn anything in or teleport myself

I’ve just started trying to lucid dream as well. I’ve not had any success since starting. I can tell you that your successes are technically using the wake back to bed or WBTB method, so look into that. Essentially using your REM cycles to your advantage. I’ve been keeping a dream journal to try and help myself to better remember my dreams, but I’ve just started. It seems to help with dream clarity despite having just started. I’ve also looked into using Focus 10 from the Gateway Tapes to perform wake induced lucid dreaming, or WILD, but I’ve again failed to lucid dream. WILD seems incredibly difficult. I can get to Focus 10, which is pretty much just a meditative state of relaxed body and aware mind. The first attempt at WILD left my body panicking, spiking my heart rate and breathing. My last attempt, I managed to fall asleep in a Focus 10 state of near body sleep paralysis, but I think I lost concentration. You should probably look into MILD instead. Doing reality checks might help you question your dreaming. So, if you hear a car outside, perform a reality check like by pressing your finger into the palm of your other hand. Or if you enter a new room, perform a reality check. The idea is to get into a habit of performing reality checks while awake during events that could feasibly occur randomly in a dream. So change up the events for which you reality check from time to time. That’s all the advice I can offer since I’ve not succeeded. If anyone has advice, I’d also love to hear it.

yeah thanks, for me my advice for you would be just continue your sleep schedule cause thats what ive been doing for like 40+ days and thats how i got my semi-lucid dreams but yeah ill look more into MILD and shit like that rather than just a dream journal

* i meant dream journal not schedule

Thanks. The dream journal seems to definitely be helping with remembering dreams. I just started about a week ago so I imagine I’ll take a bit longer. Seems to be a lot of trial and error even with techniques being widely discussed.

Can any anons report in about the effectiveness of the various drugs that supposedly aid in lucid dreaming?

I had a buddy swear by kratom, said it gave him vivid dreams, which for me make it easier to become lucid.

Galantamine might help if you have Alzheimer’s already. This paper also notes Vitamin B6 before bed or a diet rich in fish and chilis could help. Those are the easiest correlated substances to source, but it discusses others as well.

Here’s a thesis paper that created a “novel” reality testing protocol. In summary, set a gentle alarm for every three hours, five times a day, and at each alarm check your hand and the color of your nails while asking yourself if you are awake. The paper suggests that the protocol improves lucidity compared to more spontaneous reality testing methods.

Try mugwort. You can brew it as a tea or smoke it. Although it will make you get up to piss if you drink it. But that can actually be good for Lucid dreaming if you do wake back to bed. It should make your dreams more vivid and clear, last longer and be more stable.

From all the things I took, Chamomile tea helped the most for lucid dreaming.
Basically, stop what you're drinking and switch it for Chamomile tea.

Galantamine is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. Likewise, chamomile seems to have the same property. Might be something there.

i never understood whats the big deal with lucid dreams when i can spawn things or teleport in my imagination right now while awake

Frequent reality checks in daily life is key. Once they become habitual they will appear in dreams and should trigger lucidity. You also need to really focus on keeping the dream stable when you wake up in the dream space. I’ve had many dreams end because I get so excited that I’ve triggered lucidity that I wake myself up, you have to push yourself to be calm when it happens, but even then it can fail very easily without a lot of practice.

>when I wake up naturally at like 6 to 7 and fall back asleep, then i get in a half-dream half-awake type of thing where i have a lucid dream
This is a key method. The common trick is to set an alarm >4 hours after you’re expected to fall asleep because it interrupts your REM cycle, causing you to fall back to sleep with spiked brain activity and making you more prone to tapping into your dreams. A lot of dreamers I’ve known also try to remember their dream from before they were woken up and visualise it as they fall asleep again.

Because the boobs of the girl you can imagine touching right now aren't as soft as the ones from the girl you could grab in a dream.

lucid dreaming isn't some huge reality hack where you can do anything but it's still cool

I seek greater continuity of my self. As much as possible. If I am cursed to exist as a self, any unnecessary discontinuities should be removed.

The best way I've found to make you dreams more vivid which helps with journaling and becoming lucid is to just read something for 30 minutes before bed. So when you're about to go to bed, put your phone down and set it to silent then grab a book (I recommend a novel, but I've found comics and manga to also work) and read for about half an hour and if you're still not sleepy meditate briefly. I don't know why it works, but my theory is that because you're engaging your imagination before going to bed it's already firing on all cylinders later into the night.

Having some chamomile or migwort tea (or both) can probably help too.

Why can't we just read from a screen? At some point it's about convenience, a website with thousands of comics ready to read, but I have to limit myself to what I have physically available?

Start journaling what you do remember daily. It's a muscle that must be exercised. If you have gotten close but pull out because the frontal conscious mind becomes aware of lucidity in a sleeping state - try focusing on your hands, they are incredible tools and not reacting to the present while also existing only in it, not considering the past or plotting the future, you will recognize the lack, lapse and wake. This can be practiced in the day time too through meditation. Everything can be achieved, the only key is breathing. Your breathe unlocks this for you, your constitution does the rest. Think of it almost as a meditation as you go to sleep. Remain aware of your conscious but don't react to it, remain completely in the moment, your body will achieve sleep and you have done it, train it, and you can visit incredible places, see incredible things, come to understand what we are, what we need to do, and how to get it done. It sounds very simple, and it is, but it's not easy to achieve this state, especially with all the poison in modern diets designed in large part, to prevent these very things being a norm. Our dreamed state is not always beyond the veil and it's where we need to go. You are a little god, and you create, you can take command of it but you're still trapped here like the rest of us. Until we figure that part out, we can only sharpen rather useless skills at our current stage, and I promise even if you make it to the top without full understanding you will just be sent back here. I died 3x, woke up in the hospital 3 weeks after a 110mph head on collision. I was my first time out on a brand new sport bike, 3 miles from where I left. Yet here I am. I seen it, this isn't the answer but I hope this helps you with your journey. The next time I visit it, I am not coming back, I won't be rejected again, will make smarter decisions in an attempt to rush it of course. Best of luck.

Light fucks with melatonin. Especially the blue light common on smartphones and tablets. They have orange light filters nowadays, but I don’t know how well those actually work.

You can read off a screen, I use my tablet for reading most of the time. Just set it to dark mode if you can so you aren't pumping bright lights into your eyes and avoid video apps and distractions like texts and games. I try not to use my phone for it because I still get distracting notifications even on silent unless I specifically mute certain apps or conversations.
