Fiction circles this intuition repeatedly because consciousness, when it begins to question its own boundaries, naturally produces such images: the generated reality that feels absolute, the lifetime lived inside a dream, the self that discovers it has always been multiple expressions of a single awareness.
A denser system was later imposed upon the original field of experience.
