Most portions of inner (not be plate boundaries) plate crust don’t just fissure and swallow people in lava. Mantle plumes or hot spots could theoretically cause such fissures, and volcanism could occur along plate boundaries I suppose. We have evidence of large scale fissure activities in flood basalts. However, MORB, or mid-ocean ridge basalt, is kinda always happening along mid-ocean ridges and it’s one of the driving factors in plate tectonics. You have more of a chance of being swallowed by a sinkhole than a volcanic fissure unless you live in very specific places.
