Longterm effects can be, that you rewire your brain in certain ways, good or negative. It is interesting that psilocybin is not a toxin for the human brain. Your body will metabolize it into psilocyn and this what makes you high. In my numerous trips during my early twenties I was largely underwhelmed and humbled about the mushroom (mainly it was golden teacher for me, even though we have native ones as well). Only my first trip was like you would imagine it and I was taking them carelessly. My theory is, that if you are a open minded person with a certain ability to adapt quickly to new impressions and situations the mushroom is by far not as intensiv, as it is for other people. The very view thoughts that stick even after the high really posess value, but you still have to think about it as you would do anyway. I was never touched by god during a trip, maybe because i felt a godly presence my whole life, so it was nothing new for me. Try it and don't worry too much. I would recommend doing them alone, no distraction (some ambient/instrumental music at most), and writing as much as possible when the trip ends (and during if it's possible but take time to just be present too). Set your intentions before taking them, but be realistic. Usually I ask out loud what I want/need from them and the shrooms answer. If possible take time to empty your mind a bit beforehand, take a long walk, meditate. Make your room as comfortable as possible, have water, fruits, a blanket, something creative to do like drawing or an instrument... If you feel any bad emotions or anxiousness let it come and go, don't get too hang up on it. If you've never done it I'd suggest a medium dose first to enjoy the physical sensation, emotional release and the childlike wonder effect before going straight to the ego dissolving intense visual part.
