Thoughts on apparitions of Mary? I'm particularly drawn towards the Lourdes one. I find especially compelling and interesting that the apparition identified herself as the immaculate conception rather than as Mary. Part of me believes these apparitions are either Sophia or the Holy Spirit but don't seem bothered by being mistaken as Mary, as Sophia being the feminine aspect of the actual immaculate conception (Jesus) just fits so perfectly to me.

If any skeptics here have a reason for me to lose interest in the apparition or anything to share at all, I'm extremely interested in hearing whatever you'd like to say about it.

Struggling with insomnia, I went for a walk to get a bottle of wine and have a belated celebration of Rosh Hashanah.
I popped in the latest episode of the Lord of Spirits podcast (it's about Ezra and I'm grateful for such a perfect choice, link: https://www.ancientfaith.com/podcasts/lordofspirits/i-remember-running-through-the-wet-grass/ ) and it finally clicked why the Orthodox call themselves Orthodox: it's the best parts of Jewish attitude towards the Bible, blended with the exercise of rationality.

Catholics "jumped ahead," maybe got a bit too enamoured with the thinking faculties, maybe forgot a bit too much about the teachings of the Church Fathers... so it made me incredibly happy that these two fathers, in the radio podcast, show that you can have a casual (yet respectful and informed) discussion about "biblical times" as the best part of your day.

Catholics need this Orthodox love of life (it got a bit lost with all the legalism and codification)... and maybe the Orthodox need the top-down sanctification of work that carried civilization through rough times (not that they lack it, but it got eroded a lot over the centuries).

Anyway, I just wanted to get that off my chest. Is it esoteric? Not everything esoteric needs to be occult. Thank you for tolerating me, may the Lord have mercy on us all.

for any Christian curious about Golden Dawn, I think I would recommend Jason C. Lotterhand's "The Thursday Night Tarot" book, which is a "best of" compilation from Lotterhand's yearly Tarot lectures

Lotterhand was a disciple of Algernon Tassin who personally knew P. F. Case; he was a playwright and established professor specialized in the oral transmission of literature; his textbook (pic rel) reminds me of those compilations of quotes from bygone days.
I found Lotterhand's book via this review https://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/books/cornelius-agrippa/ ; unfortunately I can't hunt down Morgan's "The Tarot of Cornelius Agrippa," if anybody can maybe scan it :3

Back to the subject matter: even if Lotterhand work ain't as smooth as Meditations on the Tarot, it's the least grating Golden Dawn exposition that I've found.

I read Brague's work on Western Civilization, It's good but i don't agree with some of its points, for example he separates the Byzantine Empire from the west and treats it as its own civilization, and he considers Islamic civilization to be a continuation of Rome as well
To me both Greek East and Latin West are Western, Roman Civilization, and the Islamic World, while influenced by Greece, is its own thing and a continuation of Persia, as the "Islamic Golden Age" was more of a Persian Golden Age, and the Persianate world existed from the Ottoman Balkans to Mughal India
