i seriously don't get it. what is she "taming"? tarot types throw in everything from "beauty and the beast" stories to literal emasculating (don't tell it's that?). also how is this female archetype different from the empress or the cosmic dancer of the world card (who isn't even a female in the first place)? why the infinity symbol? why the correspondence with serpent? i see a lion not a snake.
It's just mankind's egowank over being better than animals.
Theres a general for this discussion and no need to start a thread over it>>42951473
>>42951457>The Strength Arcana (numbered VIII or XI) is a Major Arcana card symbolizing inner strength, courage, and self-control over brute force. In traditional tarot, it represents the mastery of raw emotions and instincts, often depicted as a woman gently taming a lion, and is astrologically associated with Leo. It's you taming your inner beast. Man is oth divine and animal encased in the same prison as cellmates. You need to tame to animal. Don't let you emotions and instincts rule you.
>>42951478stop rulefagging, divination generals are not the same than specific tarot card discussions.
>>42951484>divination generals are not the same than specific tarot card discussionsThey are and im not rule fagging im trying to help you. Tarot card readers in the general hardly check the catalog and you will get more insight from a thread full of diviners but if you want to blunder through blindly so be it
>>42951491throw in some song that secretly mirrors the card, like you occultist always do.i still don't quite get it.
>>42951457Combine your own interpretation with the traditional meanings, don't rely on what people tell you the card is. There will be various reasons for the traditional interpretations but honestly your own one is the most important, use the generally known meanings to supplement your reading, not replace it.
The Rider-Waite-Smith tarot comes from a specific western occult tradition: The Golden Dawn. There are symbolic and color correspondences that are hidden to the uninitiated (you). One such correspondence is its relation to the Qabbalistic tree of life. If you are a serious about learning more, I suggest reading The Pictorial Key to the Tarot, Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom, or The Tarot: A Key to the Wisdom of the Ages.
>>42951457She is taming her inner beast. That can be vices, sin, etc. In other words, self-control.
>>42951989>One such correspondence is its relation to the Qabbalistic tree of life.that's chesed -> gevurah and before tifferet is arrived. the moral triad. that is also the same like thesis, antithesis, synthesis. or peace, justice, brotherhood. :)the golden dawn variant of moving from the wheel of fortune to justice makes perfectly sense for me. it's also like what happened in the french revolution, if you think about it.but the transition from wheel of fortune to strength is not quite clear for me. generally, strength is still one of the least clear major arcana cards for me, even though i can see what it is hinting at.
>>42952072>or peace, justice, brotherhood. :)actually i wanted to say liberty, equality, brotherhood.but both mean the same anyway.
>>42951457>i see a lion not a snake.kinda answered my own question here. but only kinda.
>>42952072In terms of archetype, how do The Emperor and Strength differ? Don't they essentially mean the same thing? I would say no. The Emperor represents a type of strength that is primarily masculine / martian. It can be tyrannical, unfair, cruel. Whereas Strength itself represents another type of strength that is more emotionally based. This is the strength that is found in Jesus or the Buddah or ascetics. It is about enduring the painful experience of life strongly and without attatchment. Notice how happy and peaceful the imagery is on the card. What would be a ferocious beast is transformed into a loving creature. Think of Strength as being a higher dimensional kind of strength and love which is above the material egoistic conception of strength.
>>42951457it could also be interpreted as someone operating a large machine.sometimes ace of clubs represents a power tool. and chariot (water) can represent a car or similar vehicle.
>>42951478who wants to slog through a dumping ground of "duhh when am i gonna win the lottery and get my oneitis gf?????" a million times over.i do cards sometimes, and asking me about winning lotteries, cheap money, and romance will instantly have you shown the door.
>>42952844a machine eh, now it's getting interesting.the chariot has the winged sun symbol in it, something you see in a lot of vehicle logos.
You are correct that is a terrible imagery and I also hate it Not that I'm into animal cruelty I also saw another version with a baby that actually makes a lot more sense into the actual building of the worldI'm working on it but some greedy stupid bastards decided to take it away from me so that they can take the credit for it while we have to focus on vagina cunt wetness of shit and dumb girls that thing that they're pussy baby girls are going to save and heal the men from the shit that honestly it's the girls are causing all the problems See I can't even write well because I am being negatively influenced by vagina cunt obsessed people
Strength is just applied love
I don't know what John Rider-Waite was thinking when he detailed his version of the pattern, but Strength is supposed to be Fortitude, one of the cardinal virtues. This is why Temperance and Justice are also in the deck. Some very obscure variants also include Prudence.
>>42957096fortitude sounds like 42.but i can't really link it with the strength card.
>>42951954Sounds like you completely miss the point of tarot readings. The very fact that those exact cards showed up in relation to a given question by a given person is important, and they're supposed to be read according to what they represent. Saying "your own interpretation is the most important" makes tarot meaningless. You're just giving your opinion, a guess.
>>42951457I wonder why so many people miss the obvious infinity sign above her head.
>>42951483>Don't let you emotions and instincts rule youA card depicting a woman says you need to stop being a bitch. That's a good one.
>>42957193>I wonder why so many people miss the obvious infinity sign above her head.literally wrote it on the op.
>>42957179It's not meaningless, the whole point of divination is interpretation, it's not just>Oh yes that card means X, nextotherwise people wouldn't go to people for readings, or learn how to read tarot. I'm not saying do away with the accepted meanings, I'm saying combine them with your own interpretation which to me is the most important thing. Imagine if you see the Strength card and your eyes are drawn to the flowers the woman is wearing, maybe you associate that with nature, maybe you see this as nature looking after an animal like a lion, and form some sort of meaning from that that clicks with you and could help you answer the question asked. Then you see in a book that an accepted meaning is really just 'strength'. Would you then toss out your original meaning that resonated with you and replace it with what the common meaning is? A better approach is to combine them, another traditional interpretation is compassion, that fits with the person's interpretation and strengthens it for instance, and maybe adds focus.Maybe my view is different from most, but to me divination is all about interpretation.
>>42957179>>42957560Also forgot to add. Even if you're a more 'traditional' reader utilising established meanings, you're still using interpretation by applying them to the question.
the crowley variant is quite odd
>>42957611It's the whore of Babylon, Crowley was obsessed with her.
>>42957617ooooh another puzzle piece now...isn't she just lilith?
>>42957635I've always seen them as quite different, but that's an interesting idea.
>>42957680what's the difference between babalon and babylon?
>>42960083Spelt differently innit
>>42960083numerology. babalon = 156 = 77+[(7+7)/7]+77
>>42957611it makes more sense than the Rider-Waite version. note that the number changed too so now we're looking at Teth - the Serpent - on the path from Tiphareth to Geburah. (its previous position, Lamed, the Ox-Goad, is the path between Geburah and Chesed, and Adjustment/Justice fits a lot better there)
