I believe that during certain times in my life I was presented with a situation to test me. most often it was a person in dire need to whom my help would be everything and would cost me either very little or nothing. I found that these times came when I was most stressed and angry at the world.

the first time it happened I ignored it and a father was left without his wife and children. a colleague was out drinking with a different group one evening, I saw them, and thought to me to stop them and offer to use the slush fund charge card to get taxis for him and his friends, sort of mine too. I failed to do that and they got behind the wheel, continued their free will decisions and I had to see the result of failing to do mine. all it would've taken was a high five and throwing some cash around which didn't belong to me and was just for that purpose.

since then similar situations have come up, like a homeless man approaching me in the hardware store parking lot offering to help me load some plywood. I gave him all the cash in my wallet, since some other similar events where my inaction was the direct cause of a preventable tragedy. it ended up being something like $120 because leftovers from building material project into pizza money. he swore his story was true about getting to live with his sister for xmas. there are stories out there in various culture legends about angels in disguise testing people, but I think it is more just day to day life where we should just take better care of each other. I've had a sort of plot armor in life where I should've died so many times and gotten cussed out for something... and nothing. like someone is rebalancing it.

to them, they had a wish. I've found that in those situations doing things like emptying your wallet tends to come back in some sort of luck.
