Fairy tales and folklore are filled with stories of heroic knights and maidens striking bargains with the Fair Folk. Playing games, winning boons, collecting prizes. Sometimes even winning a fairy wife to marry.

Can you actually do this IRL? /x/'s impression of the Fair Folk always seems to me universally sinister, like they're always up to no good and your best bet is to avoid them entirely. Yet surely those ancient tales didn't come from nowhere, right? Surely the activities depicted in them have some kind of origin point.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but would the Hero not suffer incredible bad consequences if they "lose" to the Fae bargains, and such? This is always explained, is it not? Is just that in the stories, the Hero always prevails, no?
