Many of the mythical humanoids are said to live underground. In the Jentilak myth these basque giants fled into the ground when Jesus was born (This could be symbolic of the death of the native pagan culture but I choose to see it as literal because I want to believe in underground giants). The Yunwi Tsunsdi (Faelike nature spirits in Cherokee mythology) also either lived in underground caves or inside mountains.Theres plenty more examples, either deep underground or in "hollows" of some kind.Is it symbolic of the unknown/the infernal or do yall think theres actually some spoopy shit underground?
>>43029026also plenty of biblical references to sinful people wanting the hills and mountains to fall on them
>>43029026because it's the most convenient explanation for why does nobody see them leaving and entering a place? it would be very hard to get people to believe in fairies if you also had to also place fairyland on the map and plot a route between it and your village that does not cross the line of sight of any possible eyewitnesses. that and in a lot of mythologies the other side is just underground, these people did not know what the fuck a planet is and what it's made of
>>43029042>the most convenient explanationno i disagree i think fairies live underground and come out to molest me
>>43029026earths pressure has been decreasing both gradually and discreetly for as long as it has had life>why undergroundhigher pressure
>>43029042Underworld is a convenient shorthand for other dimensions. I do recall how the Woolpit Childten described their Land of St. Marten as being a sunless realm they exited from through a cave or something like that. Then you had the Shaver Mystery with its Deros from underground which came just 10 years before the Little Green Men started coming from what we used to call the Heavens. It's all just primitive ways of saying another plane of existence we ourselves are unable to normally reach.
>>43029026well they gotta be somewhere, right? and theyre not here, neither in the sky. so must be in the ground or something
