Hallucinations can occur when the brain’s chemical signaling is disrupted, particularly when acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in attention, memory, and visual processing, is out of balance. This can interfere with how the brain interprets visual information and distinguishes real patterns from internally generated ones. As a result, the brain may perceive letters, symbols, or glyph-like shapes in blank surfaces or random patterns where no such markings actually exist.
