Oh, I basically posted my entire TBR list in /omg/ but... currently reading Unquiet Voices: The Magical Art of Laying Ghosts by Rob and Nonie Douglas>>43114751>The Cornerstone of Fuck-AllIt's not even Hermeticism, it's New Thought bullshit.
>>43115065Do you think back in the days, chuds had the exact same 'ugh, it’s not even ancient 10k year old Atlantean wisdom' takes?
>>43114751lmao
the occult is just do-it-yourself/do-it-for-yourself religion where you are priest, practitioner, god/devil, temple etc. magic is just religious "technology". what you do with it is up to you. although, it attracts too many stupid and/or insane people (fodder for grifters et al) to get much out of its public discussion
>>43114738do you got any recommendations for physically summoning stuff?? I'm on a mission right now.
>>43115220doordash
>>43115112Yes, but also many books also claimed to be ancient 10k year old Atlantean wisdom.Magical texts have a long history of being written by lying liars who lie.
>>43115220This reminds me that I have dreams where I often summon my jacket or shoes to me. Very Thor-and-Mjolnir kind of action. I don't know if that's possible in real life though.>>43115372How are you liking it? I've been struggling to get into Montague Summers' writing style.

>>43114751Well... if grimoires that had nothing to do with Solomon could still hold so much sway over occult trends, why not put out some bullshit and attribute it to the Three Stooges or Initiates?>>43115065Lol but which Hermeticism is the tru-tru Hermeticism? The Corpus Hermeticum, the Renaissance-reframed Hermeticism, the GD-brand Hermeticism or whatever the fuck Bardon fanboys think it is? Fuhgedaboutit...
>>43116263>Lol but which Solomonic magic is the real Solomonic magic? The Testament of Solomon, the Keys of Solomon, or this text on the properties of birds? Fuhgedaboutit...
>>43116296Mmm... yeah... which is exactly why I phrased my reference to "Solomonic" magic the way I did.
>>43116459this image needs to die, it's filled to the brim with garbage. I can only assume 99% of people who post it haven't read 10 books of it.
>>43114739Antisocial niggerfaggot. Get the fuck out of here dork.
>>43116596>I assume people haven’t readI read more than you can imagine maybe that’s why I don’t make your stupid ass assumption Call out wherever book you disagree or shut the fuck up bitch
>>43117736Lmao imagine thinking they reading this much trash is cool or interesting
>>43116596I don't know if I've found anything worthwhile in those book rec images. But I haven't read enough to make my own either.
Recently read Forbidden Religion by Professor Aragon. Pretty interesting. But I don't think people should be slaves to books or teachers.

>Three Initiates - The KybalionIt contains some New Age-y nonsense but is an overall good introduction to Hermeticism. It is on the shorter side and explains things simply enough. As you read deeper on Hermeticism you'll be able to separate out the New Age-y shit this book contains pretty easily.>Albert Pike - Morals and Dogma of The Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Freemasonry>Aleister Crowley - Magick Without TearsThis isn't a typical book. It is a collection of notes and correspondences between Crowley and his students. It lacks the puffery and obfuscation that his normal works have. If you are new to the occult, I would avoid his other work for now.>Lyam Christopher - Kabbalah, Magic and The Great Work>Manly P. Hall - The Secret Teachings of All Ages>Eliphas Levi - Transcendental MagicThis one is pretty advanced. Not good for a beginner without supplementary material. However, it'll get you to start asking the right questions.>Anthony Stevens - Jung: A Very Short Introduction>Carl Jung inadvertently did a lot for occultism. While his material isn't classified as occultism traditionally, it is still indispensable.>Carl G. Jung - Man and his Symbols>Carl G. Jung - Answer To JobImportant to understand the nature of suffering>Israel Regardie - A Garden of Pomegranates>Israel Regardie - The Tree of Life>The Corpus Hermeticum (G. R. S. Mead translation is best for most)>Terence McKenna - The Invisible LandscapeDespite what some might say, psychedelics/entheogens are directly connected to Western occultism. By recommending books on shamanism and psychedelics I am not recommending their use.>Terence McKenna - Food of The Gods>Mircea Eliade - Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of EcstasyThis is far from a complete list. However, if you read these, you will have laid the foundation for further reading, gained practical tools for your own work, and won't need a book list anymore. You'll know what questions to ask, and where to look for answers.
>>43114738Reading the view over Atlantis (for entertainment purposes). Pretty boringly generic so far.
>>43118690sharing knowledge is spoonfeeding? so the entirety of human development was always spoonfeeding?kill yourself, retard

>>43114738Anyone read this one?
>>43119880frfr all these magicians and occultists are just a buncha cocksucking losers who only ever read and visualize things in their head and never actually do anything lol retarded nigger faggots
>>43123051Kinda, yeah lol
>>43122631It puts the Kybalion but no actual Hermetic texts. 60+ books and doesn't even list something containing the Corpus Hermeticum is enough to deem it worthless.Robert Anton Wilson is worthless in the modern age, just skimming wikipedia pages will put you on the same knowledge level as him. It's filled in general with Crowley-adjacents, who are again, worthless.Blavatsky is a fraud. I have a low opinion of Steiner. Alan Watts and Huxley are hacks. And the random anti-capitalism/fascism spam makes me think this chart is made by some larping commie, especially because the chart intentionally avoids any author who might be deemed 'wrongthink', such as Evola. Now here's some actual critiques that aren't just me ad-homineming-A chart doesn't need 3-4 books surrounding Gnosticism, one collection including primary texts is a better starting point. Thrice Greatest Hermes by GRS Mead is my pick for a Hermeticism collection.Jung deserves to be on a chart but I don't think Man and His Symbols or Archetypes are good starting points. MHS is barely a Jung book, and Archetypes is dense. Modern Man In Search of a Soul (while I don't think it's great) is a better Jung starting point imo.The chart desperately needs Platonism/Neoplatonist books, there's literally zero listed.Beyond Good and Evil is a terrible starting point for Nietzsche and makes me doubt whoever made this chart has read him. Putting Nietzsche with basically nothing else from the Western philosophical canon is also plain stupid.I love James Joyce but I don't see the point of him being on a chart like this. The chart also obviously makes a point to avoid anything explicitly Christian, but includes Paradise Lost and Christians such as James Joyce and Jung, which just makes the chart silly. All in all, a very worthless chart.
>>43123271Lol the other cringe chart that does contain Evola is also retarded. It's a retarded horseshoe.
>>43123736Which chart? I'm not familiar with it off the top of my head.I'm not an Evola shill, and I've only read 7 of his books, but to ignore him completely is disingenuous and folly. Even the biggest Evola hater will concede, if forced into honesty, that his Doctrine of Awakening book is exceptional.
>>43123777Ok what practice do you maintain now that you got from Evola?
>>43123051>trying this hard to trigger someone
>>43123802Kind of a silly question. I was consistently meditating and praying prior to ever reading Evola, and I continue to do so after. I don't read Evola for 'practices'. I'm not a Buddhist, but Doctrine of Awakening is an excellent exhortation on Buddhism, if you wish to incorporate his practices throughout that's up to you.My favorite works of his are Mystery of the Grail and Meditations on the Peaks, both of which have influenced my understandings of symbolism and my consciousness in general. I've yet to read Intro to Magic, maybe there's something in there I would incorporate into my own life once I read it someday, but I generally don't go to Evola for practices, but for knowledge.
>>43123806I'm... asking questions? Why do you assume everyone is as invested as you are in some retarded online culture war or whatever you think this is?>>43123847Really isn't a silly question at all. Occultism isn't just things you read and think about. There are practical aspects to it.
Not really a paranormal/occult book but I enjoyed Ubik a lot. It's probably my favourite PKD novel.
>>43123863>I'm... asking questions? Are you entirely sure I was talking to you?
>>43123271Has an actual good chart ever been made? Most of these seem like they picked a vibe and ran with it. A more accurate "chart" would be to just pick a book and check its bibliography.
Not occult, but highly recommend pic related
>>43114738I'm quite new to the occult so have lots to read. I'm currently reading Book 4 edited by Stephen Skinner, and I've read Part 1 (Yoga) and 2 (Magick) so far. I'm currently reading Part 4 (The Book of the Law) before starting 3 (Magick in Theory and Practice). Before this I read his biography Perdurabo by Kaczynski. So far I really like it, the mysticism and striving towards divine union really appeals to me. Crowley is clearly conflicted on which model of magick to use though, which Skinner highlights, I think he wants it to be the psychological model so it's more science-based, but clearly struggles with it when talking about evoking spirits and other topics. I know basically nothing about Egyptian religions so unfortunately the references to the various Gods often go over my head or need looking up.After Book 4 I will be reading an old 1908 book about the Council of Nicaea I got a while ago, and then after that I had hoped to try and get the Israel Regardie version of Magick Without Tears, but it's expensive so maybe I'll start studying astrology.
Shit. I think I need to rethink some of the material in my TBR pile. I'm trying to be open-minded, but some of the overzealous Christian material is making studying exorcism a bitch and a half. If I didn't believe in actual parasites, old hags, and the like, I probably wouldn't bother, but I'm trying to get whatever I can out of it.>>43125505>I know basically nothing about Egyptian religionsI doubt Crowley knew much either. His learning was the romanticized Golden Dawn version of Egypt.>I had hoped to try and get the Israel Regardie version of Magick Without Tears, but it's expensiveYou can always try and look online for free digital versions of any old books in the public domain. But I guess the Regardie version isn't in the public domain? Damn.
>>43125181capeshit
>>43125551I can find a pdf online but I always want physical books for non-fiction.
>>43114738I watched some hammer movies with Christopher Lee based on novels by Dennis Wheatly and I could tell this guy knew or did his research because those stories were pretty realistic. So I found out he wrote a nonfiction book called the devil and all his works. It gives a tldr on most major religions and occult practices through history of the world. A lot of it is outdated and because the book tries to go through many different things it feels like there is not enough time to go through or better explain certain topics. For example his intro to daoism and confucianism was very surface level imo but you can't blame him because at the time the literature and western understanding of those traditions was very limited.
>>43114738Hey its Black Phillip
>>43127465That film was shit
>>43126458Understandable. I got myself physical copies of Evans-Wentz's "The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries" and Scot's "Discoverie of Witchcraft" for similar reasons. They're basically just print-on-demand copies of the public domain PDFs, but they're so big I wanted physical copies to read them more easily. Plus, since they were cheap, I can annotate the interesting parts.
>>43127526Did you get them from Forgotten Books? They reprint hard to find books, I haven't used them yet but they've got some good stuff.
>>43127553Discoverie of Wtichcraft is from them, but I think The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries is from... "Scholar Select"? I went with wherever it would be cheapest. I was looking for volumes to read, after all, not necessarily to collect.
>>43114738Got this book as a gift, is it any good?
>>43127606You have it. Read it
>>43127523Black Phillip draws a lot of water around here, Lebowski, you don’t draw shit.
Anyone ever read a copy of the Gildisbók? I was thinking of making a thread on it
>>43127990please do, we need more quality literature threads on /x/
>>43128010That is to say, a thread asking about it
>>43128038I don't expect you'd get many replies. On an unrelated note, I really should get around to reading picrel sometime soon.
Whatever happened to the ape of thoth's library? I have an older version from like the 2010s but want to see what new books theyve added. Are they a discord tranny now?
>>43128056Ape closed it down, but the last version is available on torrent.I try to maintain my own nowadays, originally based on Ape's. If I had money I'd put up a Mega version myself, but it might not work as well because it has shortcuts to cross-reference things by author, location, or subject.
I haven't seen a single book posted in here that I haven't already read. I've been at this for 13 years now. I've read every philosophy and occult book one can think of. The writings of William Walker Atkinson remain the absolute best. I also really put into practice and got good use of the writings of Robert Bruce. Much else that has been written has been vague, misleading, misinterpreted, not-to-the-point, etc. whereas Robert Bruce is very pragmatic and Atkinson is very precise with no errors.
>>43128056The last I heard there was a big argument about posting occult stuff here that involved Ape and EA Koetting people or something. Anyway Ape decided to take it down and he disappeared. Please correct me if I'm wrong.>>43128697Thank you.
>>43114738"UFOs, Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go On the Record" by Leslie Kean is good primer from going to complete n00b on the subject to knowledgeable
>>43128743I’ll check out Bruce but Atkinson can be a dense read. Well informed but slow
