Is it beneficial?

Is it worth making a daily habit?

What’s your experience with it?

Thanks bros

learn how to meditate and you will savoid flouride
>fall into a trance like state, rejuvenate
effectively sleep
but not sleep so you can be awake in 20 minutes
meditations leads to sleep or the sleep is meditation
its somewhere in between
thats genuinely useful
if the swine the enemy throws at you is attacking you
then you can drift into this state instead of regular sleep
and from it gather some sort of reset to your mind
and if you are truly awake, easier with psychoactive herbs, then
you can peer well into your mind and gather very useful information
effectively an out of body experience because
its a deep dive into the mind
and the mind is everything

Meditation is focus, which is far from sleep.

not really my friend
seeing the whole picture is absorbing all the information
you can only do that loose imo
however the focus has to be attentive to get it done
sleep is an event
sometime its all too easy however if you have
to force it thats more what im talking about

I'm pretty fucked up with childhood trauma, anxiety, depression etc, all the good stuff.
I was missing a lot of work because of the above mentioned and my boss sent me to a psychologist to get my shit sorted out. She suggested meditation. Full disclosure, I only went for one session. I was also given access to an app which is all about health and wellness etc. The app also told me to meditate.
>a few moments later
I've tried meditation, like really actually tried. I couldn't do it. My brain doesn't shut up long enough for anything to happen I think.
Lots of people do it and say it works. It didn't work for me.

Simple reminder for the thread:
Meditation is deliberate focus of awareness.
That's it.
Ignore anyone trying to tell you there is only one way to do it, and for only one reason.

Guy walks into a gym for the first time, exhausts himself by lifting as much as he can. Comes back home, looks in the mirror: no visible muscle gains. Thinks that either gyms are bullshit or they just don't work for him personally. Never works out again.

You tried one form of meditation.
Have you tried any other forms of mediation, that dont stress so much the whole "turn your brain off" bit?
Again, this is why the thread needs a reminder.
Meditation is NOT "turn your brain off."
That is ONE form.

Have you tried something like zen, where you dont focus on turning your brain off, but instead focus on performing an action?
Have you tried visualization, where you dont focus on turning your brain off, but instead focus on a desired goal and how it would be observed when you achieve it?

There are MANY forms of meditation, done for MANY reasons.

This.
It is good to start with one form of meditation that is easy for one to get into.

It's not about easy or hard. Its about what fits. Closer to flavors than levels.

For me, meditation is just thinking. Pure raw thinking. For others, it's just emptying their heads. I prefer how I do it.

The primary purpose of meditation is first and foremost nurturing one's self control and self regulation. Hence the whole "finding your center" i.e. regaining mental and physical equilibrium.
You never actually turn your brain off in any meditation. You're simply focusing and controlling it. Once you get really good with it, that's when you're able to utilize that focus and control to "clear" your mind, but it's a turn of phrase, never an actuality.
That's why you should start small:
The simplest meditation you can do is to sit in a chair, couch, edge of a bed, and inhale over 3 seconds. Hold breath for 3 seconds, and then release over 3 seconds. Do this cycle 3-5 times.
It's similar to how you might lift a 30-40lb weight to grind big muscles, but you use a constant and restrained motion on a 5-8lb weight to train your physical dexterity to refine muscle movement and reduce energy waste.
Similarly meditation is mental dexterity training.
But spoiler alert: you never ever actually "clear" the mind, you simply learn to let those thoughts flow past you like a river in a stream of consciousness, often allowing it to just form a mental bubble that engulfs you like a toroid swirling around.

>The primary purpose of meditation is first and foremost nurturing one's self control and self regulation.
Nope.
Please keep your dogma to yourself.
Meditation is simply deliberate focus of awareness.
You can do it many ways, and have many goals.

The chinese empty your mind stuff works for some and doesnt for others. Imo "meditation" is trying to reach a trance like state. Something that helps is staring at fire or running water. I've also heard it described that you can have thoughts, often you cant prevent your brain from having them, but letting them pass through your head rather than entertaining them is the deciding factor. So yeah. Something I like is watching incense burn. Look at the smoke. Try to pick out shapes in it. Force your brain to think about the foci, and you will get better at entering meditation. Nobody expects you to get it first time.

>letting them pass through your head rather than entertaining them is the deciding factor
This is still within the singular method of turning off the mind.
Not all meditation is trying for that.
If your awareness focus is meant to be on the thoughts, then letting them pass would not be productive.

>I've tried meditation, like really actually tried. I couldn't do it.
Of course you couldn't, because you tried, meditation is the opposite of trying, if you're trying, you're not meditating, the more you're trying, the less you're meditating, just sit.

People think meditation is focusing or trying to do this or that, TRYING to let your thoughts pass like a cloud, how can you TRY to let a cloud pass? How can you TRY to not try? It sounds like a paradox and that meditation is impossible, thinking about this brings the mind anxiety.

Meditation means, do nothing, or more precisely, just sit.

Do not try or not try, do not try to think or not think, do not try to focus or not focus, do not try to meditate or not meditate, just sit. This is the greatest challenge.

How would you respond if someone asked you, "Can you help me play sports? How do I do it?"
What kind of sport are you looking to play?
