Been trying to relearn blading after like 20 years away from it. I was never good at half pipes so I've been practicing on those. I've relearned some grinds but still a long way from my favorite grinds. I have 360's back but I'm not sure how long until I can 540 again. Compared to other guys my age I'm relearning really slow. I've done other sports in the past 20 years so I thought coming back would be easy but I'm pretty much starting from scratch.

I did something goofy...and it kinda works; the problem I'm having are the rails loosening from the boot. Right now I've got some Lowe's machine screws (phillips head) and two nuts on the ends of them. The old bolts and the ones included with the rail aren't long enough. What would be the best way to tighten everything up?

I wanted to go to the skatepark and practice more on the half pipe today. I went to the one in my neighborhood but it was full of Mexican families watching their kids ride their bikes around and having a picnic right in the middle of the skatepark. I went to a school and messed around with some grinds instead. I feel them coming back. Feels good.

I had the skatepark to myself for an hour. Practiced in the half pipe. It's taller than the half pipe I usually practice in. Then I hit the streets and found a really low round rail I used to skate like 25 years ago when I was a kid. Starting to get the feel of soul grinds again. I tried a few grinds on a ledge a bit taller than my knee that was one of my go too ledges as a kid but it's so slick and feels so sketchy now. I've gotten soft.
>>
>>201795
honestly my favorite height of ledge is just above knee height, I feel a lot more comfortable jumping slightly up onto something, as opposed to jumping "down" to something below my standing height, if that makes sense.

after a year and a half, I finally got around to actually trying my rollerblades out
didn't go very far before I got drenched and gassed thanks to overdressing, but I didn't eat shit so that was cool
was a lot more anxiety-inducing than riding a skateboard though
I enjoyed those few minutes but I have a feeling it's gonna take a while to actually feel comfortable just riding around
>>
>>202291
congrats, retardbro.

if you're really anxious about falling just wear full pads until you're able to ride around comfortably. I always wear a wristguard on my right wrist after absolutely fucking it up on more than one occasion and needing weeks of recovery time.

I see a lot of fat chicks on impalas. If you're using quads stick to metal plates as opposed to nylon.
>>
>>203615
Two things: Purposeful practice (e.g. drill left-foot t-stops like 20 times as the first thing you do when you put skates on), and just time spent on skates.
If you don't drill, you'll never learn how to do it; and without time on skates, you'll never learn to do it without thinking.

I got a road rash this weekend going down a steep hill and immediately ordered some small sticky wheels. Picrel. Moving down from 72mm to 64mm inline. Maybe if I didn't live in the mountains I'd go with the bigger/harder ones. I also skate for the cardio so I think the smaller will serve me well for that.

Not that Anon but I ordered a $25 set of 8 wheels as well. I wanted some LED wheels for night skate and to try some small wheels out. I've shredded my first set learning to skate the past month. These new have not worn down too much this first session but did slice a nice hole in one of the front wheels. Pic rel. To be fair I didn't inspect them much before putting them on. Rode for 1.5 hours tonight on these picrel. Link below.

I ordered the 64's above. Smaller wheels pros and cons:

Pros:
>Slower skate, good for beginner or cardio
>Tighter/easier turns, better handling, good downhill handling
They're slower and turn easier. Good for beginner like me.

Cons:
>Unstable 1 legged skate
>Less stable at high speeds
>Rolling over the smallest twig will end your fucking life
Tend to turn a little too easily, making 1 leg skate unstable or making 2 legged go inwards pizza or V shape if you're not careful. Larger wheels like to fly straight which is convenient for going straight/fast with good stability. However, larger wheels aren't as good when you're wanting to shred side2side downhill to reduce your speed - hence a smaller wheel preference?

Overall the 64mm are good for a absolute beginner. Think I'll move back up to 68-70mm as I feel these are too small for me now. I want smaller than 72 for safer downhill descent but 64 is def on the small side. I'll give them to my gf who's still falling on her ass every 0.25 mile.

Can someone explain to me why anyone would choose 60mm for "aggressive" ?
>>
>>207827
>Can someone explain to me why anyone would choose 60mm for "aggressive" ?
how do you mean? do you think that's too big or too small?
desu 60mm has become almost the standard size for aggressive, even though it's the maximum you can fit in a lot of frames (aside from high-low frames like oysi)

Is it just because you need the room to make a grind spot on your frame? I wonder because I'd imagine 60mm are very slow and unstable to be considered "aggressive."
>>
>>207854
well that's one thing yeah, it leaves more space for the h-block.

but aggressive is all about short, controlled bursts of speed rather than going fast over long distances. smaller wheels = higher acceleration and more stability when landing since you're closer to the ground.

has anyone been to the Berlin skating marathon? care to share your experience if you did?
there's a few days left to sign up and I'll probably go so curious what to expect, never skated for that long before in one run and never been to a marathon of any kind before
I've done ~60 minute runs in which I averaged something like 30km/h and it was through the city with ups and downs and stops and wind and shit, and at the marathon you get to draft behind others and skate on nice proper streets so I assume it'll be easier
>>
>>208706
Can't say I have, don't imagine you'll find many others either since it seems pretty niche on the grander scale of things. If you do go, tell us how it is.

I guess if most people here are US based it'd be quite the trip for a marathon; it's a few thousand people going in total
I saw parts of a full recording of the whole thing and it looks like drafting behind others and overall skating on good asphalt makes a difference, I can about an hour and a half with a few stoplights, a couple of bigger stupid bridge where it's always fucking windy, but otherwise pretty good asphalt, going 20km/h on average, so that would just make the cut-off time of 2 hours for the whole ~42km

well some more time to train, still have to plan the whole thing but I hope I'll make it
>>

What's staring at the ledge gonna do? Should be balance-muscle-memory; trust that you'll ride it out after a point and make sure the next step after is safe (eg not jumping on glass or a comically placed banana peel) feels more important imo.

Anyone here skate solo with no hopes of ever finding someone to skate with?
>>
>>213828
yep, never even encountered another blader at any of the skate parks in my city.

closest I came was one time I was at a skate spot when a girl on her lunch break approached me and excitedly started telling me how she used to skate until she messed up her knee, how sad she was selling her Aeons, showing me her insta videos.

I've been trying to convince her to ignore her physiotherapist's advice not to skate, even considered buying her a cheap pair of Sways or something.

Down bad, and I'm not even trying to bang her.
>>
>>213832
I've sold stuff locally to other bladers but nobody my age seems to want to skate with anyone outside of their established group. I met a quad skater once at a skatepark but he doesn't live nearby so I never bothered calling him back. I saw one guy looking to be my age shredding at a park I was visiting. I was too intimidated to talk to him 'cause he was so much better than me.
