My 10 year old wants to start playing disc golf. Do I buy a starter set or give me the best 3 discs to start and play and he will continue to want to keep in his bag so it’s not wasted money.
Real golf is way cooler
>>258263go to a used section of a disc golf store or a play it again and have him grab a few putters and midranges. cost effective, tons of variety, and he will have a better time with lower speed discs. once he finds some stuff he likes/doesn't lose then buy new.
>>258346Just get him a nice proxy/pure/whatever.
the quick, cheap & easy entry point is the Innova starter kit (aviar, shark, leopard version). walmart.com or amazon always has them <$25. Well rounded beginner disc choices and they usually come in lighter 150g weight for kids. I could think of a few autistic gripes about this set, but they don't really matter for a 10yo. Best selling set for 30+ years for a reason. If you have a small boutique shop nearby, I'm sure the staff would be happy to help find good discs for a kid and give some tips.
>>258294everyone i know who's ever shown an interest in disc golf has been a fat unathletic stoner
if you wanna do the cheapest option, just get him a straight flying midrange and if his interest keeps up, buy him a few more different kindsif you wanna spend a little bit more, get a lower speed fairway driver like the latitude explorer, and compliment that with a straight midrange like an innova nova or a latitude claymore, then a basic putter like the discmania p2 or p1. with just those 3 discs you can go very far, especially as a kid
>>258263I would never let a child play this boring ass sport. It literally does not get fun until youve played for 5+ years and practiced 10k putts. T. Been playing for 25 years
>>264522how are you not having fun being innawoods with the boys?

Bit of a pain in the ass, but getting form down is more important.Since he's young you are probably going to want to get him lighter discs - 166g for a putter should be good; 172+ will likely be a little difficult to putt with until he's older and has some more hand strength.5 speeds can be a bit finicky at lower weights, dip up into the 6s and get him something like a 155g MVP Relay. If he gets decent throwing those two, then look for something like a Blizzard Wraith in the mid 150s.
>>264522its still true to the name of golf, you're just gonna suck when you first start out
>>258263oh, and might as well get him throwing every which way since he's youngRhfh & lhbh isnt quite the same thing
