What's the best belt system out there?
>>261162beltless -> white -> blacknon knower -> knower -> knows enough to teach and compete
>>261162WhiteYellow BlackThrow in red if you want something cool, but nothing more!
>>261163i dont like this. most people dont know what theyre doing for at least half a year
>>261162No belts. Belts are a retarded scam designed for the sole purpose of selling retards shit they don’t need. It’s also notoriously widespread within the meme “martial arts”. Put your average karate fag with his black belt and gay robe into a ring with an experienced mma fighter and watch the larp end.Fuck belts.
>>261247They're a decent way to indicate skill/experience, which can be useful, for example when looking for a sparring partnerFurthermore, they're a good motivator for trainees - "getting better" is a very nebulous thing, particularly when you're comparing yourself against other people who are also improving at a similar pace. This way there is a "checkpoint" system, and something tangible to aspire to.>sellingnigga it costs less than a bigmac
>>261293i dont want to train with someone whos prime motivation is a belt. you either want to get better or you dont
>>261294Cool reading comprehension, grade school is over that way
>>261162In an ideal world only white then black. Maybe a middle rank to show progression. Belts are a fun system to track your growth but they do more harm than good especially the egos that come from dan ranks.
>>261294My prime motivation was the belt and I made it all the way to the top as a minimum effort boyIts not about who's best it's about who's leftCome late, roll light, leave earlyPeople way more talented than me came and went down in flames eventually because they tried hardAll that gets you is a blue belt and bad kneesBut now I have a black belt and just sit off to the side waiting to snipe people when they're tired and my legend continues to grow
>>261162I like Judo's systemThere is a set curriculum, and you have to demonstrate proficiency with said curriculum to advance. No subjectivity or arbitrary "I just don't think you're good enough yet".Granted, this may lead to disparities in actual performance on the mat, where a lower belt will be able to trash a higher belt, but imo it makes sense from the standpoint that belts represent your knowledge and understanding of the art, not your health, athleticism, natural talent etc which all impact how good of a fighter you are
MCMAP
>>261461Since judo only cares about your ability to answer a written questionnaire and demonstrate moves with a particular asthetic, there's no coherent argument anybody could make as to why a judo belt from the internet is less valid than one done in personSo that's exactly what I intend to do
