I think the most legendary ones were Tyson (he would need to get out of prison) and Karelin but it's rather obvious that Tyson would lose due to lack of grappling skills. Karelin would be more serious threat to the Gracies because he would toss them around easily but Idk if he would be able to actually end the fight.
If it was all the greatest fighters of that time a hobbyist that practices 3x a week today would still beat them allNobody knew how to fight until 2015
>>261356>2015Have you ever heard of St-Pierre? Or Silva? Or Fedor? Most retarded take of all time
It'd probably be a wrestler. boxers and strikers would probably lose due to the lack of space.
>>261360They had that dog in them, but their skills were rudimentary by today's standardsThink about how mind blowing revolutionary it was that GSP would use striking to set up wrestlingHe actually changed the game by doing some basic shit like they
Raiden would win, obviously.
>>261356>ignoring athleticism lol a hobbyist will gas running a couple miles someone like karelin would rape them without even knowing martial arts at all
>>261356>Nobody knew how to fight until 2015Does Pride FC, Pancrase or Shooto not fucking exist for you?I can understand someone saying that until the 2000s there weren't any real competent fighters. But I can't understand arguing that until 2015 there weren't any real fighters. Seriously what the fuck kind of bullshit argument is this?
>>261704This is what the "masters" of the previous generation look like on the matTheir skill are rudimentary and comically bad, a 2x blue belt is better than thishttps://youtube.com/shorts/lWQmC3NdKCo?si=xlXgweqfKODzWA9C
>>261705First of all, I don't see what the fuck this has to do with my point, especially when I cited shit like Pride FC or Shooto. This is some old geriatric BJJ guy, I presume some old Gracie fart, but it's a common fact that the Gracies were jobbers that falsified their records. That's why someone like Kimura or Sakuraba made short work of them. This is a common fact, only BJJ guys and UFC fans worship BJJ. Secondly, no shit. They are old men now. That's like someone saying no one knew how to fight until Tyson Fury because Mike Tyson now fights like a geriatric.
>>261706Those guys are the same generation you're talking about from prideDudes from pride are in their 60s nowBack in those days everyone was equally bad at fighting so they looked impressive
It would've been interesting to see Erik Paulson fight in UFC 1, since he had already fought in Shooto beforehand. He wanted to, but the Gracies (who he was training with at the time) didn't want him doing it. So he was just in Royce's corner instead.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FD99xVcibwfight starts at 8:11
>>261711That fight was after UFC 1, here's the 1993 one from before it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLbwAzPOaAM15:30
>>261710>Those guys are the same generation you're talking about from prideThey didn't participate in Pride, did they? Or are you saying those are old retired Pride champions? Cause I don't see Cro Cop nor Don Frye nor Sakuraba in these fucking clips. Also even if you were correct and these were some peak fucking athletes who secretly dominated the hidden tournament in my 90s, again see again my point of "just because Mike Tyson now fights like a geriatric now does not mean he was never a good fighter" you fucking idiot. But even then, they aren't, these are some random old dudes, unless one of these is a Gracie, but again, they've all been fraud checked in Pride by Sakuraba. Also what part of most BJJ practitioners being frauds do you not understand? Hell, the UFC is awful now because it's dominated by BJJfaggots and shitty mediocre Kickboxers, the latter of whom would easily be mogged by Andy Hug if he were still alive, or even Nicholas Pettas. >Back in those days everyone was equally bad at fighting so they looked impressiveYour proof is...a bunch of old BJJ geriatric practitioners? (With no context as to whether or not they are actual veterans or just a bunch of old dudes that started recently)Jesus christ, no wonder the stereotype of modern UFC fans being braindead still rings fucking true.
Jon Jones>>261726>the UFC is dominated by frauds and shitty fightersebin. how are they dominating if they dont know how to fight?
>>261711He's a big fat phoney just like all the resthttps://youtube.com/shorts/wq2-tRa61qk?si=Hm53LcbucUtbvBkk
>>261870>ebin. how are they dominating if they dont know how to fight?First of all, nice misquote of what I said. You know what I said was more nuanced than that. Secondly, the problem is Dana White's low payments and the UFC's low standards.Look at Rizin, Pride or even Kickboxing places like ONE or K-1. They all have professional well-paid fighters, most of which are diverse in their styles and systems as well. Dana White pays his fighters peanuts, as such desperate tattooed low-income men who speedrun their skills get in to get some sort of quick buck. Sure there's a few great fighters here and there. But the majority of fighters that get into the UFC nowadays are just very meh. This should be obvious to anyone who actually watches shit other than the UFC.
>>261875Nah. Despite posting some weird stuff on his instagram/youtube like that, and having some weird beliefs outside of martial arts, he's extremely legit.
>>261435gsp won his second belt in 2017 retard
>>261440Karelin knows wrestling the oldest martial art and still only did a MMA scripted fight ....
>>261355I think probably Tyson would winstretching back there are warriors of old thatwould probably rek everybodylike giants and stuff even if you wantthere is no competitionDavid even if you want to understand like thatabout purpose; or even his lion like men laterif you want to return to pure physicality.there are people we have never seeni dont know but i do almost guarantee theyare a lot tougher.however for our approachi think tyson would knock the Gracies out orwhoever Karelin is.the guy was 5'9" knocking people out a foot tallerthan him constantly in his prime.he was very humble in the beginning and in thatstage he was probably "the baddest man on the planet"that said id fight him purely for fun in his primeLennox did beat him but he also said(even though they werearound the same age) that Mike in his prime would probably win.he did say that right? i cant remember but during the post fightinterview in the ring i think he said that.Mike needed that speed of his teens and early twenties tomatch his peekaboo style.and that lost its edge by his 30s because also Mike lost hisedge.he needed the clarity provided by Cus.an awesome warrior and a cool guy.primarily just as he was, a cool boxer. a great boxer.Foreman also had a huge knock out ratio and is a legendaryboxer in his own right.he could take a beating. and if he caught you then anyone wouldgo down if he got you right on the chin with a clubbing right.
i think you have to give it to the boxers.while grappling is awesome in its own right because it worksand as a fight science its awesome to level the playing fieldlike that. its really funny. to nullify someone like that.but if the boxers hit you its overif they couldand if youre knocked out youre deadits like the rock shrimp. a tiny sucker but i do thinkthat velocity and precision outmatch physicality in the senseof brute strength because we all have a tiny compiler segmentsitting about on our shoulders and knocking it around sendsan overload of signals causing the brain to shut down to justprobably sort things out as an extreme precaution.its the best buts nothing is perfect, if they missed or didnt getthe hit in then they could be grappled and torqued.then you could give it to someone with raw body mass andstrength like Hapthor.Id fight Hapthor too but man would it suck.its like a last stitch effort for all these great warriors.one huge battle and man UFC 1 was brutal.Gracie had that going for himhe could control the battle well.and really i think he could do the same to Hapthor.and also that Hawaiian preacher was awesome.did he win UFC 1?its really a standard for debate.there are some Hawaiian warriors that have an intense fightingspirit.id love to see the progenitors of that genetic memory progenitation.itd be cool.strange warriors.i dont know of many great fighters thats my problembut also i would fight all of themmake a punch like the rock shrimp on that 6 inch domeMike Tyson trained his neck for this purpose.click that around and you win.its possible to knock people down much biggerabsolutely max that peekaboo style one punch click and geta few of them inreally like velocity energy equating to broken jaws and teethbut you have to be able to deliver itnot many people could generate the fighting spiritrequired to hit the spirit that hard.
>>268850Clueless
Was ground and pound allowed? If so, Karelin, would just throw people on their stomach, sit on them, and punch head. Though I suspect Karelin's success is mostly due to nobody giving a crap about greco, and russians pumping him full of steroids when everyone else in his weight class was just a fatass.
>>268868im not talking about sustained competitiononly a gauntlet with people picked out of timefor one tournament
>>268979Karelin couldn't even do 1 real MMA fight it had to be a staged fight He's a wrestler, 1 leg kick and he's limping and crying
