Your sport is "extreme"?
Show me a gif of the most recent death in it.

He didn’t die from that. There’s a good interview out there with Jeff Dechesare who was there filming when it happened. If the board landed on his head after the fall he would’ve been a goner for sure.

28 is so fucking young man, he was still a baby. I feel dreadful for him and his loved ones.
I always felt like judo and sumo were the two hand-to-hand martial arts you were most likely to die while competing in.

context? he doesn't look like he got hit that hard

If prior head trauma had created a brain bleed then getting hit sufficiently hard enough again can cause a cascade of brain injury that ends in vegetable or death. This has happened a few times over the years in boxing. It probably has to do with the repeated head trauma guaranteed by the ruleset. I.e. when a guy gets dropped you can't go to ground and finish him off, he gets a chance to stand back up and continue getting punched in the face.

not an expert in this sport, but you can tell early on in this webm that his brain is not all there even if he is standing upright and moving around. Looking at the first two punches given in this clip, the guy that dies barely even reacts. Its like his eyes aren't looking in the right place, he's going through the motions of being a boxer rather than actually boxing. Actually quite disconcerting.
imo the real "killing blow" if that ever happened, occurred before the events of this clip.
