I box. Today is light sparring day. Instructor tells us to go at max speed but 10% power. I have no idea what I am supposed to do during this sparring. If I go at max speed, my punches will have power, especially if they land. I'm a 120kg bodybuilder fuck, so if I catch someone with a light but fast hook, they WILL feel it. Doubly so if they walk into it. It's even worse because we're supposed to do 3 rounds, then change partners, so what's fast/hard changes. Help me out here.
Change the boxing gym since your instructor is retarded
>>267519nah he is pretty good and gets people to win comps
>>267449yeah the "dude only x%" approach is retardedits already retarded but especially really low numbers too.
10% is just touching basically
>>267449Explain to your instructor that force equals mass times acceleration so it's physically impossible to go 100% speed without also going 100% power.
>>267449I did boxing for three years back in the day and also struggle with this concept. I can maybe see how one could do 100% speed and 70-80% power, but not 10%. That would mean stopping your punch before impact, which is straining on shoulders. Could be interpreted as «only jabs» or something idk. But a right hook with 100% speed is absolutely gonna be felt. Maybe just stick with jabs and bodyshots. But again, its «light sparring» so i would assume it means only jabs and light touches but as fast as you can
