Hoshoryu has unironically been perfectly adequate when he hasn't been injured, it's just that he's up against a once-per-generation specimen and a Ukrainian who'll be sent to Donbas if he loses, plus another top tier Ozeki in Kirishima. That's two Ozeki with three yusho each, pretty fucking nuts honestly considering the record number without making Yokozuna is Kaio's five. People rag on him too much for not winning a yusho, as if an 11-4Y would be better than his 13-2JY. September last year was a fantastic basho because of Hoshoryu, and as long as he gets 12 and looks competitive next time he competes I think everyone will be happy with him.
