What do you 3D model for anon senpai? No this is not a doomer thread telling you to stop doing that, if you're doing it that's great, seriously I'm happy for you, don't let AI niggers tell you otherwise.Personally, I'm drowning myself in this endeavour because of how cringe the world around us is, there's a deep sense of dissatisfaction with the way things are in general (personal life, entertainment, job market, the internet) that I prefer retreating into my own little lala land instead. Too weird to be around normal people, and too normal to be around the modern internet-going crowd: everytime I see some cocksucker repeat the same trite fucking meme like they're a human bot or someone post AI dogshit I'm this close to getting an aneurism, I'm not even 30 and I already feel so far behind modern trends nor do I have any desire to engage with them. It's a state of limbo, it's not terrible but not great either, a comfortable dissatisfaction.
>>1017019I just 3d modeled this lil rat to cast into a bell later for my friends motorcycle. Life will always be dissapointin. Sometimes you just gotta tune it out. And honestly problems that deep require either time or the willingness to become uncomfortable. Im still failing myself everyday. I lie to myself everyday. I set unreachable yet simple goals. Everyone has a why it seems. But im still trying to piece together mine. Build a dream... Something worth waking up for that noone can take away from you because god knows theyll try.
>>1017019I want to make games with my best friend. We're both not too far from 40. I've got a 'comfortable' corporate career as a business analyst type, he's a bigshot at startups and those smallest companies running squads of devs or something. We had fun when we did a gamejam, and we'd both much rather be just following the old passions and making games. I've got some 'side hustle' artistic history, but that's all 2D. We're both learning blender at the moment. I don't care how achievable the dream is, I'm satisfied working towards it and making a little progress each day. >>1017021That looks good/horrifying.
>>1017084Similar but no friends. also my job isn't comfortable. Basically I'm almost 40 and trying to make games
>>1017019fun easily entered hobby which is rewarding and has near infinite stuff to learn, combines technical autism scratching with artistic conceptsnaturally i use these skills to make porn
>>1017084hire me
im an 3d artist and do a beta content restoration mod for a game with an programmer which is somewhat well known and covered by journalists. i've created multiple characters and infrastructure, props and devices, weapons, tons of level design and the stuff. i want to get it out this year after 2 years development.
>>1017019I've been getting started in Blender for the shit of it. I do more illustrations and animations, but it's something I ought to do more of. I'm proceeding through tutorials and I'm happy with blindly following along.>I prefer retreating into my own little lala land instead. Too weird to be around normal people, and too normal to be around the modern internet-going crowdI'm in the same boat. If you want to chat come to #lolwut on rizon.
>>1017019Sculpting is fun, and it's something I have an affinity for I can't say the same for most things in life
>>1017019I see blogposts but, when we sucking? Do I have to tell you what I do while on my knees or while youre on your knees?>I make small environmentsBut it's a good minute since Ive made anything to publish or share. I still practice weekly though. Man, I really want some head though.

I wanna be a gamedev and for now I gotta go solo to make a name for myself, I’ll have to be responsible for not only the code but also the art direction, 3D or otherwise and sound design.
i started 3D because i wanted to make different models for games (started with RE4, moved to goldsrc/source) where i primarily just rigged pre-existing mesh or made crude mesh altogether. slowly however i managed to learn animation and ive moved towards that.. as much as i love all things 3d related i cannot balance it between my social life, work and family. sometimes i just wish i could sacrifice the former 2 just to make wicked stuff again
>>1020258>le solo developer memeyou will never make it without at minimum 3 people (artist, animator, programmer)
>>1022044i've shipped a 3D FPS game with visuals which took 3 years to do together with an programmer. i as a 3d artist was responsible for sculpting characters, retopo, texturing, level design, lighting, other 3d modeling such as props, weapons, modular architecture, HUD, UI/UX design in illustrator + photoshop and some basic hand animations in 3ds max while the programmer did all code. and i'm gonna tell you this is mental insanity and painful exhaustion, it WILL drain you completely and burn you out. i will never ever again do such a project again and kek at anybody who invites people to their solo MMO projectget some people on board, even if its hobbyists
>>1020258I'm seconding the other lads: gamedev is hard, divide tasks among other dudes or you'll burn yourself out and crash and burn>>1022045You just described my own situation to a tee. I won't ask the name of your game not because I don't want to know but because I expect you like other anons are rightfully going to be protective of your privacy, but I was meaning to ask: how much money did your game make? Did you get at least a small following? That's the biggest fear for me, that after all our efforts (mine and my colleague's) no one will give a shit. I've pretty much accepted that I'm probably one of those people who won't make a particular impression on this world, but still I'd be curious to know how it went for you
>>1022088it trended number 1 on a publishing site for indies for a time and ive gained a small following, and it landed on various videogame journalism sites during development. ive learned a shit ton of things for modeling, design and unreal engine. morphers facial expressions, basic rigging, lighting, special effects, maxxed out my modeling skills, texturing in substance and using photoshop, learned my software more, worked with CAD, how to use trim sheets and UV buildings correctly, general improvements in 3d, etc. i couldnt sculpt a face on the first day of the project and now i can make everything i want and am a pro in all areas of the asset pipelinei do both hardsurface and organic, env art architecture, none is an issue anymorethe popularity doesnt matter, what paid off is going from noob to AAA level artist in 3 years. totally worth it even if ur project will be shit and unnoticed
>>1022089the programmer also became more skilledbut it wasnt always perfect two or three times there was infighting, lack of motivation, but i forced myself to just finish it and rewarded myself with a few days of gaming from time to timetruth is biggest motivation boost was people commenting and noticing your work personally which made me hyped up
>>1022089>>1022090This is very interesting, thank you for sharing your experience anon>truth is biggest motivation boost was people commenting and noticing your work personally which made me hyped upI got the same feeling when people commented on my artwork, it feels great to be noticed>how to use trim sheets and UV buildings correctly>env art architectureThis subject is of particular interest to me. If you have a particular tutorial you followed to git gud at doing buildings or tips in general I'd love to hear it dude, I'm always looking to get better at that stuff myself
>>1022136no tutorials, i figured everything out on my own with experimentationits extremely easy
>>1017019Around 10 years ago I fucked up and instead of finding a job in the shit I was studying at univ I chose to work as a freelancer. And I've been struggling ever since.
>>1017021I like your rat,
>>1017019i don't 3D model i just subscribe to the patreon of furry artists and i steal all of their 3D models of renamon, krystal, etc and i store them in a zip folder on my hard drive that i keep telling myself i'll use "some day, when i'm good enough" but that day never comes. now i just commission animators through telegram to make me APNGs of the characters having seggs because animators are waaaay cheaper than 3D modelers (i got one model done for $500 from russia and that's cheap af).i mostly just got into 3D because i convinced myself i could never draw well. but now rather than drawing, i am stuck in a phantom zone hellscape of vague issues caused by hidden settings. my model was fucking up because i didn't need my cloth physics modifier enabled and i needed professional help to know that. i sold my toyota corolla for a $1300 rig because i thought i'd be making bank working from home. kek
