I upgraded to an RX 6650 XT a while ago. It's fine for gaming at 1080p, but once I got into 3DCG work now it's showing it's lackluster performance. Rendering is slow, VRAM is short, and compared to NVIDIA offerings, the AMD cards just don't excel in 3DCG.

I got a 500W PSU and am running Ubuntu, so I'm a bit afraid of changing to NVIDIA drivers. What do I upgrade so I can properly dive into complex animated scenes and shit. Also I got a budget of like $500-600 or so.

$500 dollar upgrade just for your gpu isn't going to be worth much with today's pricing scams. spend time maximizing your performance on low end hardware instead. you'll get even more bang for your buck when you do upgrade. For now you've got 8gb vram and its gddr6 vram which is more than enough for small indie projects. Get more actual RAM (if you don't have minimum 32 gb wtf are you doing complaining about performance) but more importantly is the speed. Get the fastest ram your mobo will support. Also you're probably bottlenecking your cpu and I am willing to bet you'd need a total system makeover with that 500w piss-u you've got
you can't claim your pic is "unrel" when it showcases how little you care about 3d art to begin with. more performance will not suddenly make you an artist

I threw that together just for the thread thumbnail. I do do actual complex work, but we all get lazy and I ain't gonna make a high effort thumbnail for a shitty 4chan thread. And yes, I got 32GB crammed in my AM4 system. But as I worked, I noticed my VRAM touching an uncomfortable ceiling with only a few higher quality models. CPU is a Ryzen 7 5800X. I could add an extra 100 for a better PSU to tag along with it.

Render with your CPU
next question

Rendering with anything below a Nvdiot 3000 serie and below 16gb of vram is just cruel.
Bright side? You have plenty of time left to do you chores!
