How far can I get sculpting only with a mouse instead of a dedicated pad?
>>
Good drawing tablets are really cheap nowadays compared to two decades ago.
That being said you can get really far but at a certain level it's literally just a waste of time.
For example in the really early sculpting stages I still use the mouse while most of my peers shake their head over this while using their tablet even when still adding geometry primitives and entering numbers.
In the really early stages when I'm putting down the rough 3D sketch, dimensions etc I use the mouse since to me it feels way quicker and I hate handling normal tasks with the pen. In this stage there's no pen pressure relevant yet either.

Once I have all the base stuff done I reach for the pen and do the details with it and of course painting too.
So in your case at least checking if sculpting is something you'd enjoy is definitely possible with mouse only.
As I've mentioned before, it only becomes an issue once you start doing details since the mouse is digital and you will lose tons of time redoing strokes over and over again until you've reached the result you were going for instead of achieving the detail in one go simply by having the right pressure put in your pen.

I only sculpt with mouse, shit to print mostly so it can be done, it is a matter of preference, texturing on the other hand improves a lot with a drawing tablet, I have a wacom one that I haven't touched in years for these things too.

You can get surprisingly far even after shooting yourself in the foot, but why would you shoot yourself in the foot?

So it's basically a matter of speed because mouse only does same strength strokes? And this makes have you adjust strength between strokes manually.

I can live with that while still learning and opt into a more time efficient workflow later down the line.

get a fucking job, a medium tablet is $70

Do you somehow think the higher functions of sculping are gonna be locked without a mouse?

Eventually you will definitely get into situations frequently where you'd wish analog control over things especially when you start painting.
It's not just speed but also ergonomic reasons.
Casual hobby sculpting does work with mouse but if you aim for high detail shit that gets several days sunk into it you definitely want a pen at some point.
For now just go ahead and instead of thinking and talking just go for it.
