WHY BLENDER ALWAYS UPDATING EVERY FUCKING WEEK ? I STILL USE 2.8 FOR FUCK SAKE
>>1027148But if you still use 2.8 the upgrades aren't a concern
>>1027152Most of my Addons dont work anymore. Enough with Schizo updates
>>1027153complaining when superhive has legacy downloads for older blender versions. shutup nerd lmao
>>1027153poop from a butt
>>1027153If you really were using 2.8 that wouldn't be a problem either because you wouldn't be updating your addons either
>>1027148... but blender doesn't even update once a month?
>>10271482.8 users are subhumanget with the times grandpa. use 4.1 at least (eevee next sucks dick and balls)
>>1027170I still use Photoshop CS5No. I wont upgrade
>>1027171You shouldbe using krita or gimp anyway
>>1027148That commit button is just so easy to press. And what if your pc dies and you lose all the commented out code you've Ben adding and removing inbetween breaths?
>>1027148The pace of the updates is kind of annoying given the fact that a blend file saved on an even slightly newer version simply won't open on a slightly older one.Why is this tolerated? How can anyone be expected to stay up to date rather than linger on old versions when Blender aggressively refuses to be compatible with itself? It's also kind of ridculous how frequently they're incrementing the main version number now. v2.0 to 3.0 represents an entire decade of development, But 3 to 5 is what, five years?
>oh nyo software is getting too many updates Get a load of this guy
>>1027195Thats what killed Windows 10
>>1027170Agreed. Either go back to 2.79 for the Blender Internal render engine, or 3X/early 4X for stability.2.8/2.9 are that awkward middle period where things are just off enough.t. someone who went through that period as it released.
>>1027196What killed win10 is it would stop getting updates
>>1027190Same as all dcc software, don't upgrade to anything but fixes (ie only the third number changes) in the middle of a project. No one's holding a gun to your head and forcing you to update.
>>1027148just dowload the zip or tar.xz, extract the folder ...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x6_SFtYNNc
>>1027173I already did that.
>>1027148Would you prefer if you had to pay
For context this is what this schizo is rambling about https://download.blender.org/release/And some of those updates are LTS updates
>>1027148This post would make sense if you were bitching about having to update all the time. But if you're still using 2.8 then idk what your problem is. You seem fine with not updating.
>>1027235op is an autodesk user, they don't know they have a choice not to update
>>1027173Gimp sucks huge donkey balls and isn't comparable to most Photoshop's advanced feature set. There's a shitload that Gimp still doesn't hold a candle to. Like ffs Gimp still doesn't have adjustment layers or smart objects. So you literally can't do shit non-destructively unless you flatten and merge every so often. Which makes it compltely useless for anything but very basic photo editing and hobbyist uses.I'd use Photopea over Gimp any day.
>>1027148You can stick to the Long Term Support (LTS) channel and the LTS version you use will continue to get critical bug fixes for two years starting from the day of its release.https://www.blender.org/download/lts/
>>1027171I use photoshop 7.
if u hate photoshop but don't want to use open source jankware, get pixelmator pro from apple. 50 bucks for perpetual license. it's pretty decent.
i hate eevee next i hate eevee next i hate eevee next i hate eevee next i hate eevee next i hate eevee next
Any reason? Or is it like the guy who hates updates
>>1027385I think he just hates updates. Though i don't get why he had to settle on 2.8 when it's objectively worst Blender.
>>1027148That's what I love about Blender, man. I get older, it stays the same version.
>>1027463I love the mascot of the latest one.
>>1027469It looks Italian
what plugins do you even use? cuz i guarantee we can find you an alternative. (big suggestion, use the blender launcher community tool)
>>1027287>gimpI'll stick to CSP 1.0 thank you. even if cunt shareholders are making me pay again for circular text.
>>1027287True, I still use it for some things but for most Krita is better.
>>1027527I'm not saying you should use Gimp. I'm saying you shouldn't because it's dogshit and anyone saying otherwise is fucking retarded. Reading comprehension is important.
>>1027556oh damn it i meant to reply to the guy you replied to. misinput my bad
>>1027287it's interesting. people say that and I can see it. but I've been using gimp since I was a child and I think I got used to all the bullshit. every once in a while I have to use photoshop and I hate it, even though it definitely looks cleaner and it has more featuresthe non-destructive editing, for instance. I often think about how useful that would be. yet, my life goes on without it
>>1027287The only thing Gimp has over anyone else is the poly select tool. Everything else has been done better in Photoshop, CSP and Krita.
>>1027577Not that guy, but I use gimp for things I can't do in Photoshop/would take longer to do in Photoshop. That guy's just big headed - the only people who attach themselves to software like this are mediocre.
>>1027918>things I can't do in Photoshop/would take longer to doLiterally nothing then?>people who attach themselves to software like this are mediocre.Eat shit faggot. I told you why I prefer it. Non Destructive editing is something that's extremely useful in my work and Gimp can't do it. It's a simple comparison.Photoshop is run by jews and they can go fuck themselves and die, but the fact is the software is better.
>niggas aren't using the new multiscattering sky texture sunlight that looks godlike in 5.0 lmaoing @ u
>>1027148I updated from 4.5 to 5.0 immediately after it came out for the UV update alone despite being fine on 3.1, 3.4, and 3.6 forever. Updoot doot...
>>1027148i'm still at 2.93, just for the OpenCL support since i don't have an RDNA capable graphics cardnever needed any of the new features ever
>>1028035Most new features, with the exception of Geo Nodes are mainly just QoL type shit and bugfixes. Nothing is particularly game changing, it's mostly a collection of "oh yeah, that's kind of nice, that'll make 'x job' a bit quicker and less of a pain" features. Geo Nodes is the one thing that's actually something substantial, and while it's present in things like Houdini, it's still fun to fuck around with and it opens up a lot of possibilities that you weren't able to do before. For me, it still boils down to making shit that makes "x job" easier. Instead of spending an hour making a bunch of unique assets, I spend an hour making a nodegroup that does the same thing I was going to do by hand. Doesn't save much time, not really in the long run either since if you made the assets by hand. You'd still have the hand-made assets for other projects too just the same as if you re-used a nodegroup, but eventually those two lines intersect and GN makes sense. Especially when it comes to large numbers of things. Once you finish the nodegroup to make those assets, you're done, and can make any number of them you want, but doing something by hand you still have to keep making them by hand.So yeah, still just QoL shit unless you're doing something really fucking off the wall wild.
New versions crash when I enter Material or Render mode. 4.X and beyond all do this.
>>1027556Gimp was never meant to be good anyway. It's principal objective was to make it easier to develop a linux GUI toolkit. And as it turns out, Gtk is also shit.Linux is also shit too desu. It's a whole package.
>>1028043Software development is always like that anon, incremental small improvements do matter. Plus they seem to be working on improving the code so they can build more important features in the future without breaking shit.Software development is just that messy
>>1028234Honestly open source as a whole feels a lot like people half-assing shit, or people who think they can do better making some knockoff that isn't at all comparable to the original because they lack a fundamental understanding of what and why people use it for. And then act superior about it.Had a lead dev on GIMP seriously ask "What's a non-destructive workflow? Why would anyone need that?"Like they make something as obtuse as possible because it's how their autistic brain works and they know fuck-all about UX. Then when someone says it's shit, they don't understand why.>>1028278Obviously small parts add up to a larger whole, and there have been big features added, but you're not missing much by not swapping to the newest thing. At most, aside from the big shit like GN or renderer changes, you really are missing small things that make tasks slightly easier.I still use the newer versions since I find they perform better, but I'm still wishing they bring back the game engine or some kind of "interactable" mode that I can record to keyframes.
>>1027148>rock solid and feature packedJust like me.
>download new blender>set renderer to EEVEE>preview is grainy as shit like it's being gaytracedwhat the shit?
i'm still using Blender v4 from last year. no rush to update.
>>1027208i think when 5.2 comes out in a few months im probably just gonna sit on it till the next LTS. ive started using more addons over the past year and its annoying having to wait like a month for them all to update/bugfix every blender release.
>>1027469the last splash i really liked was 4.0, wish we could just set the splash image manually in settings. all the ones after it have felt kinda boring or samey to me
>>1027170>get with the times grandpa. use 4.1 at least (eevee next sucks dick and balls)See: >>1028681>why are you complaining about removed features and the new version being worse?>grandpa?Kill all zoomers.
>>1027153>>1027148>>1028681fuck off, cris
