>>288225207It's suffering story, the japanese title translates to >mountain tragedy or so I'm told. And the Author has a background of making stories about miserable characters.
Momiji a slut but it’s unfair to blame her for being a slut when it’s in her very nature. It’s Miko’s problem if he continues to choose to do nothing with her without even trying.
why was the last thread deleted?
>>288225263No idea.
>>288224944This is what the spread should look like. What we see on the right and what Miko is saying upper left is intentional.
>>288224317>Does Miko like Momiji or not?He is physically attracted to her, yes. Residual childhood feelings he has yet to let go of. However, he is "in love" with THIS "Momiji." A falsehood. Illusion. Ideal. The clashing dissonance between his fantasy and observable reality is what is causing his resentment to fester. Forcing himself to like something that deep down, he does not. It is possible Momiji used to be like the one he imagines at one point, but no more.

repostingwhat if leafbro's ex-wife is a parallel of marrying yandere or nutjobs in shounen abyss?
Incel is seething because he isn't getting the attention and validation he thinks he deserves, are we supposed to feel bad for him ?This kind stranger, whom he was looking down on, accepted to give him the mountain without asking anything in return but I'm sure he will find new things to complain about and still be mad that the popular girl in the class isn't fellating him.
>>288226041It's possible that Ryou heard "I would have just married sensei or Yuko" so often that she decided to write a logical conclusion when you marry a crazy bitch.
>>288224944I find the subtext slightly different in the raw.>It's fine to hate what you hate
>>288224944Would you eat your childhood friend?
>>288226041The most obvious parallel is Momiji right now
>>288224944*clangclangclangclang*Wake up supernatural anon!Wake up ghost anon!*clangclangclang*Momiji has LITERALLY shrunk down to the size of a mouse and is waiting for a belly rub! She is physically there in the pan because that's what it shows on the page! Teleportation is real and it's one of her many superpowers. I bet she could fire lasers from her hands too!

Wonder if Miko could bring himself to plan to try and cause Leafbro to die so he can get the mountain back after Momiji really crushes his spirit next
>>288226989A lot of shit has to happen for that outcome
>>288227161Yea, the first thing I thought of when Leafbro said he would hand over the mountain when he died made me think that Miko could try to force that outcome.
>>288226989Plan? It could be as simple as>ex by chance sees a shot of leafbro on Momiji's insta>goes to their town and asks about it>Momiji: if you wanna a guide up the mountain you have to ask Miko>Miko is split between impressing Momiji and maybe finally getting his mountain and his loyalty to leafbro
>>288226041>what if leafbro's ex-wife is a parallel of marrying yandere or nutjobs in shounen abyss?Anyone except Nagi would count tho. The wprst she could do is hugging you tightly
>>288224944What did the meat mean by this?
>>288226041>YukoShe would manipulate someone else into killing (You) and keep her hands clean.>YuriMay stalk you at worst if she reaches the breaking point and burst into fits, but no further escalation. Will eventually regain sanity.>ChakoWill drown your goldfish or tell you she wished you killed yourself (preferably with her), but won't ever physically hurt you.Yuko is still he closest parallel because she is an actual agent of death, even if she does not directly carry it out herself. But in reality as far as Boy's Abyss is concerned, the *actual closest parallel to Ebihara's ex-wife is objectively Masaharu. (Yuko's husband) Actual spousal + child abuse which would have become fatal.

Was shonen's abyss good? I only really remember sensei memes
>>288228222Maybe not so soon but we will absolutely get leaf and wife flashback.
>>288228222Grossly implausible. Some brief exposition which may set the stage for more answers, but nothing that conclusive is chapter 8. Far too early if Ryo wants to keep nurturing a sense of mystery. I will not say "impossible", but I find it uncharacteristic of her craft.
>>288228443It was a bit of a nothing burger after its timeskip. All outcomes for every character were much more lame and weak didnt what could've been and how dark the story could've gone. That's why im tempering my expectations for this too.
>>288228494She's so fucking cute (in this) bros, if only she didn't write such insane characters. Imagine the poor black company office worker who asked her out to drinks not knowing what madness lay inside that head of hers.
>>288228668>not knowing what madness lay inside that head of hers.A madness stemmed from a disastrous relationship with her parents.
>>288225495The distance they have right now is weird. I get if he doesn’t want to go after her because she’s toxic and is the girlfriend of his dear childhood friend but he’s just going to keep stalking her social media and stare at her when she isn’t looking until something happens. Maybe Momiji was at least right about the girlfriend thing, he really is wasting his time on the mountain when right now he shouldn’t be.
>>288228443the ride was an absolute blast but the destination was extremely meh
>>288228780>Maybe Momiji was at least right about the girlfriend thing, he really is wasting his time on the mountain when right now he shouldn’t be.I would say she was "half" correct in so much as he should focus on life outside the mountain. The totally random "girlfriend" comment on the other hand felt like a calculated provocation, because there is no way she is oblivious to the fact he wants that girlfriend to be *her.* And that is exactly what is rotting him from the inside out, because she is a poison. The mixed signals she gives off exacerbates his instability. One minute it sounds like she's trying to "compete" with the fucking mountain (lol get a girlfriend, creep! Get off the mountain! It's scary lol), and the next she could not care less (hehe, I'll come with you. Our secret XD)Genuine foid behavior. Ryou is brilliant.
>>288224622>>288227549Looking at the archives, he's probably a obsessive kagurabachi fan from the Jump thread.
>>288229401Momiji might be kind of an airhead who lacks brain cells. If she’s saying or doing the wrong thing or if it comes out as provocative chances are she’s not really doing it on purpose. Right now she seems like a normal girl who thinks normal things like making out with her boyfriend and taking pictures for likes. Besides the fact she keeps smiling everywhere almost 100% of the time.

>>288233947This is basically inevitable. I just wonder how broken Mikoma will be by the time it happens.
>>288237548>how brokenErectile dysfunction levels of broken. Momiji will realize Mikoma hates her because her body doesn't attract him, and there's where her spitefulness will shift from passive-aggressiveness to straightforward hatred.
>>288237599Hmm. I like the way you think, anon. If we are using Taiki and his ex wife as the Mikoma/Momiji blueprint, we have a solid idea of what Momiji is potentially capable of when scorned. The "Queen" has an ego, and this is by far the worst insult a man can give to a woman. It's basically the ultimate form of rejection. That would definitely fan the flames of hatred, no contest. Would be amazing if Ryou actually went through with it.
Maybe Miko and Momiji learn a lesson from Taiki and his ex and they become a healthier couple lmao
>>288239026It's Ryou we're talking about.

>>288239658I am fine with a short focused series
>>288227518The first time I ever got into dumping manga was when I was getting repeatedly banned and all my posts deleted for criticising ayakashi triangle, so I started dumping High School Family to make the mods look bad for deleting the threads, but about that same time I started running out of criticisms to make, it was the same issues on repeat and I got sick of complaining about them, so the thread deletion I wanted never actually happened in the many chapters I dumped.Man I miss high school family
>>288239658God, I want to cry. I wanted this to be my new main fix for at least three years. But as long as Ryou tells the story she desires in exactly the manner she imagined, I cannot complain. Also:>More evil MomijiOkay Momiji, seems we only have about 14 or so chapters left if the three act theory holds. So I need you to start fucking Miko up NOW. Thank you, Queen.

>>288239658She looks scared and disgusted. Maybe Makita wasn't being delusional about her princess.
>>288239658Not all acts are created equals. This series could end up longer than we expected. But regardless I hope for more Makita.

I really want to see how Momiji feels about Miko, like does she pity him? secretly hate him? Sudden yandere twist? Or is she just the shallow annoying bitch we've seen so far?
>>288241041I get the feeling their feelings mirror each other. As in, Momiji seems "interested" in Mikoma one moment and either disinterested or a cunt in the next. Love-hate. Erring closer on the side of hate. The REASONS for all of that is what I am currently clamoring for.
Going to have to recant >>288228494 in light of the news. Definitely not a flash back arc, but we are about to get the full dump.
>>288241110>I get the feeling their feelings mirror each otherThis. If this manga is similar to Boy's abyss then Miko will have to learn from Taiki's mistakes like Reiji did with Akira
>>288241400Right. That is my predicted trajectory as well. But I do have concerns about the execution as we have far less time to articulate these themes than anticipated. Reiji/Nagi + Akira/Yuko had ample development to flesh out the parallels. Well, Ryou has never disappointed me, so I feel I can have a lot more faith here.
>>288241714Yeah, lets hope she doesn't rush anything
>>288239658>Seems it's planned as a 3-act short series.
>>288239658>First act was only 7 chaptersHow short is this series going to be then? Okay well if it's like this then I guess it won't take long for Momiji's and Miko's toxic sides to collide.
>>288224994So it was that guy on the first page after all.
>>288239658Watch the twist be that the leaf guy had it coming and he will poison Miko to go nuts against Momiji over teenage bullshit. It is typically not good in stories when characters nudge others towards hatred.
>>288239658Spite? No. This is the face someone makes when they step in shit. Which in itself is not at all far fetched considering the setting is literally in the woods with wild animals running about. Looks like her shoe is fated for the poo…
>>288242849Don't be sad. Ryo is having fun experimenting and keeping us on our toes. Anons got complacent with her longer length series and forgot we are all on Ryo's wild ride so she had to come back with a gotcha. She got us good.
>>288239658Now that it's a shorter length, I don't think there is time for Taiki's backstory.
>>288239658Ryo learnedabyss should also have been a 70 chapter manga. tops
>>288244257So far I get the feeling like Sangeki is far more purposeful and to the point with it's writing. In Abyss there were moments that just exist in the story for no reason.
>>288239658>標的(ヒロイン)>full page of Momiji in a frying pan>"We can't bury it. That would taint the mountain."Momiji WILL be getting killed and barbecued before this is over, and she will be delicious.
>>288243259You might be into something >>288226374
>>288226374It's not slightly different, it's completely different. wtf, why did the translator do this?
>>288243259>It is typically not good in stories when characters nudge others towards hatred. While true, this is not an apt descriptor for their dialogue. Ebihara clearly sees the disdain Mikoma has toward eating the boar meat, and sees him forcing himself to partake in something he abhors. Coming from a victim of domestic abuse, I would wager this serves as an analogue for his relationship with his abusive wife: gaslighting himself into loving someone he wholeheartedly despises. A path that only leads to misery and destruction. Ebihara is not advocating for embracing hatred, but acknowledges the futility in forcing one's self to love something innately incompatible with their character. Toss out the "meat" (forget the bitch) and move on. Otherwise, you will end up like him.I'm speculating he tried to "keep loving" even after his ex almost offed him. However much like Mikoma, the simp within in strong and he tried to maintain the relationship. After almost getting offed the second time, he finally learned his lesson. He made mistakes so that Mikoma will not have to. Or at least, that is what should happen if Ryou plays it straight. >>288241400
>>288245339Yea, Ebihara comes off as very earnest and honest without being malicious and duplicitous as a counterpoint to the rest of the cast. The "intruder" is someone who doesn't behave like the rest of the cast.
>>288244640The translator probably meant for the "You don't have to do" line to tie in with the "What real men do" line on the previous page. It does change the subtext a bit, though, which is unfortunate.

>>2882486671. No, I did not.2. This is not Boy's Abyss. Neither is Momiji any of the heroines from that work. You also misconstrued my intent. Being "loved" or "accepted" is not the point. It is the implication you are being "told" by an individual whom you look down on that your wiles have no influence over them. Even worse, they have the gumption to consider YOU unattractive. It has nothing to d with "love" or "acceptance", it has to do with entitlement. Thus, "The Queen."
>>288248874I get your point, but I don't think the story is going that way. What gets her mad is him choosing the mountain over her

I think a lot of people misunderstand Momiji’s character when you have people in the story with at least 3 different views of her. And they are all very bias so it’s hard to tell right away if she’s just a kind hearted virgin chaste princess with a bit of ignorance on the side or a mega queen bitch whore in disguised calculating her every move for dick. Or something in between. There’s not enough info right now to really say.
>>288249508>What gets her mad is him choosing the mountain over herIn that case, we agree on this point. I have actually discussed this a few times in the threads. Hell, even this one >>288229401I just found anon's idea about erectile dysfunction whenever Ryou makes them smash to be thematically appropriate for the cycle of "hate" she wants to sell. >>288249929>here’s not enough info right now to really say.Anon, you are coping. In your defense, you are correct to say we do not have enough information on her. But we have more than enough to conclude:>a kind hearted virgin chaste princess with a bit of ignorance on the side This ain't it. Ryou manga. That shit doesn't exist. Literally no one thinks this. Not even Mikoma, God Emperor of Simps. How many "evil" Momiji illustrations does Ryou need to draw >>288239658>>288230657 before you learn this lesson? Her holding a bloody knife? What do (You) think she is anon? And why? We have all said our piece. What's yours?
Off-topic but I thought Ryo Minenami was a he, not a she.
>>288250671That was never the case. I'm not sure how anyone can read Abyss and think "A man wrote this." Anyway, we've heard her voice in interviews and >>288228494 is a picture she drew of herself.
>>288250192Not that anon but there are a few testimonies so far.Makita: Views Momiji favorably as class princess and an honorable descendant of matagi hunters.Roka: Views Momiji as a burden and needy queen who constantly wants to be satiated. Of the characters, he spends the most time with Momiji so his opinion holds the most weight.Miko: Wants Momiji to be the submissive girl from his imagination. The real Momiji isn't that and she occasionally does or says things that he doesn't like because it doesn't fit his ideal vision of how she should act.Momiji has been shown testing Roka's commitment to her when she sprained her ankle. We have yet to see what her goals are in returning to the mountain with Miko. Maybe she's trying to get Roka to become jealous. While she's capable of being manipulative, so far everything she's done is pretty low level and par for course of a normal high schooler. I personally think that people who say she secretly hates Miko and is doing everything purposely just to toy with him are ascribing an amount of malice to her character that she just hasn't shown yet. She may eventually grow into someone grossed out by Miko as with her expression here >>288239658 but if you were disgusted with someone in the present, incurring debt by letting them carry you down a mountain, and letting them feel you up in the process is out of the question.Woman hating and the view that all women are evil is normal here on 4chan so people are desperate to have another entertaining evil woman character to confirm their biases. >>288251994There's no doubt that Momiji is sinister in the cover art, I never debated that. But can I introduce to you the concept of time?Momiji is not inherently evil, nor is she shown to hate Miko right now. If she becomes that way, it is AFTER some events that have yet to be shown in the story.
>>288250852Do you have a link to where it says this is a self portrait?
>>288252294I actually had to double take and look into it, because I saw the cat (she keeps posting her cats on Twitter) - and took anons' words for it that its an image of her. But that doesn't seem to be the case. At least directly. It's a special illustration for Shogakukan.
>>288250192For now I think she is less “evil” than people want to think of her as despite how Ryo chooses to portray her. What are her crimes so far? Being a mountain hater? Smiling a bit too much? Maybe having a bit of a superficial personality but that hardly qualifies her as some evil woman entity out to manipulate, sex, and shank you for reasons that only she knows. I just don’t see how she could be “the bad guy/girl” yet when 99% of the cast in the story have nothing but positive opinions about her. And people are so quick to dismiss the suspicious looking leaf man as if he’s going to be the next Esemori while treating Momiji as the next up-and-coming Yuko. How does that even make sense?
>>288252479Yeah I don't trust her, but at I agree that Taiki could be a psycho pretending to be a good guy

Even on Abyss threads, they wanted Nagi to be evil but she just wasn't.You know, this was an articulate and generally well rounded response until you ended with this tripe. It is called pattern recognition. Nothing to do with "woman hating." Ryou so happens to write heavily flawed, multifaceted, and extremely realistic females. Not inherently "good" or "bad", but she efficaciously captures the dark nuance virginal male mangaka who have never interacted with a woman fail to convey. Eg, the idealized shit Mikoma fantasizes about. It is what makes her writing engaging. No one "hates women" -- we are dissecting her behavior and building a psychological profile based on known precedent. And despite being a "contaminant" or "poison", she was salvation for Reiji. She was only a "contaminant" to those attempting to wrest control of his autonomy. By merely existing. Nagi was never portrayed at any point as malicious. But Yuko, Yuri, Gen, and Chako made her literal Satan for giving him a reason to exist outside of their desires. Not sure what you are trying to insinuate here.
>>288258813>Not sure what you are trying to insinuate here.Basically the in-universe perception of those around Reiji about Nagi, not my opinion.

Shiba and Yuuko were like hard drugs that broke their brains.
My schizo theory is that mountain man is just Miko from the future. After he got with Momiji she ended up beating the shit out of him.
>>288260054Thanks for clarifying. >>288260146Yes. Those anons were fundamentally retarded. As a Yukofag and a Yurifag, the anti-Nagi posting was insane to me. I often shit on Nagi for being a non-character for most the story, but they were looking for reasons to misinterpret her character to villainize her. But to bring it back to Momiji, I see all the Ryou red flags with her. None of which I saw in Nagi.
I forgot but was his grandpa from his father's side or his mother's?
>>288260773Father's side
>>288260811Given the mother's reaction last chapter I would have thought that it was from her side. But having it be the father's gives it an extra dimension. It would be interesting to get the flashback to how their relationship was back then. Mikoma whole spiel about pride most likely came from his grandpa, and that could definitely be a cause of friction.
>>288261120My impression was the mother did not sign up for living in a podunk village and playing the mountain owner role when she started dating Mikoma's dad. She resents that she's stuck there. Her daughter has absorbed and copied her mom's anger and the dad is mostly on her side, but Mikoma has been brainwashed by the enemy in her eyes. Nonetheless I think part of her loves him and she has more legitimate reasons for wanting to keep him away from the mountain than just sticking it to her father-in-law.
>>288260570I don't think it's a time shenanigans story.
>>288262807To be fair, he knows it's schizo territory.
https://note.com/gairon/n/n046ae5224fb0?sub_rt=share_pwThis japblogger was analysing tbe concept of the femme fatale using abyss, aku no hana and pun pun as subjects of study. Tl;dr, Nagi was a subversion of the femme fatale even if she was presented as such, as she used the role to be a positive influence instead of a ruin for the MC, and the real femme fatales were... Yuuko and Reiji.
>>288264361>3. Boy's Abyss — Who is the Femme Fatale?>The last work we'll discuss is Ryo Minenami's "Boy's Abyss." The protagonist of this work, Reiji Kurose, lives in a small rural town with his grandmother who has dementia, his reclusive older brother, and his mother. After graduating from high school, he is scheduled to work for a construction company run by the father of his childhood friend, Gen Minegishi, who used to bully him, and he is in despair at the thought of not being able to leave town. However, one day he coincidentally meets his favorite idol, Nagi Aoe, who suggests they commit suicide together, saying, "Because Reiji-kun's life is definitely going nowhere from now on." Reiji is surprised, thinking, "Why would someone like you, who suddenly appeared out of nowhere, notice me?" and takes the suicide seriously. The two are about to jump into the river when they are spotted and stopped by Reiji's high school homeroom teacher, Yuri Shibasawa. (1/2)
>>288264445>When Reiji is taken in by Shibasawa, he raises his voice and says, "Why did you interfere...?" But Shibasawa, having glimpsed the abyss of despair in Reiji, touches upon his own abyss as if in resonance, and falls into a Messiah complex, saying, "I will definitely save you." Reiji decides to leave town with the help of Shibasawa and promises to go to university in Tokyo with his childhood friend and close friend, Akiyama Sakuko, but Sakuko is devastated when her oppressive father forbids her from going to university in Tokyo. Furthermore, the appearance of the novelist, Nagi's husband, and Reiji's mother's classmate, Esemori Kosaku (Nozoe Asahi), along with Minegishi Gen's obsessive feelings towards Reiji and the overwhelming despair of his mother, Kurose Yuko, puts Reiji in a difficult position, and the relationships between the characters become increasingly complicated. The characters, each harboring their own "abyss," compete for Reiji's affection in order to fulfill their own desires, but the detailed plot is too complex to explain here.>The story begins when Reiji's mother, Yuko Kurose, was a middle school student. Asahi Nozoe, who had moved from Tokyo after his parents' divorce, was bullied as an "outsider" when he met Yuko, who was crying and running out of the building. Asahi lived with his hysterical, depressed mother and his grandparents who were xenophobic towards "outsiders," and he was bullied and in despair. However, he met Yuko, who lived with her alcoholic, violent father and mother who worked at a bar, and they shared their dark worlds, and he felt that Yuko was a light to him. The two fell in love and felt like they were bound together by fate. One day, after his mother attempted suicide, Asahi called his father in Tokyo to take Yuko back, but his father had already remarried his mistress and told him, "Don't ever call again." (2/3)
>>288264470>On the same day, Yuko also lost her escape route when she discovered her mother having sex with a customer in the room above the bar where she had been going to escape her father's violence. Asahi proposes a double suicide to Yuko, but Yuko refuses, saying, "I'm going to give birth to my child in this town." Asahi then says, "Then marry me," and Yuko agrees, and the two come up with the name "Reiji" for their child. About a year later, Yuko is forced into prostitution to pay off her father's debts and begins to go mad. When Asahi discovers she is prostituting herself, he is terrified and tells Yuko that they should have committed suicide together when he proposed it before, but that it is "too late." Asahi and Yuko become estranged, but from then on, Yuko develops a nature that drags everyone she meets into her own abyss. In high school, Yuko begins dating Uryu, the leader of a gang of delinquents who protected her during a school conflict that started because of her, but Uryu is also driven mad by Yuko's darkness and plans a double suicide with her. Asahi, having sensed that they were planning a double suicide, finds the two sinking into the river and grabs their hands, but Yuko lets go of Uryu, saving only her, and smiles at Asahi, saying, "I believed you would come / always." (3/4)
>>288264492>Terrified by this, Asahi realizes that "Yuko's soul is one with this town," and that "Yuko will always be here," "living and dying forever," she is "reincarnation" itself, and refuses to become part of the cycle of reincarnation, saying, "I can't live with you / I can't die with you / because I hate you / I hate you." Asahi then leaves town alone, but he continues to chase after Yuko's shadow and regret, and as a pseudo-Kōsaku Mori, he continues to write novels about his ideal love affair with Yuko = double suicide. In contrast, Yuko, as "reincarnation" in "this town," develops an unusual obsession with dragging the people she meets into the same abyss as herself. The protagonist, Reiji, was created by Yuko to best share her own suffering, and Yuko employed various schemes to ensure Reiji continued to suffer in "this town." When Reiji's older brother was studying hard in high school so he could take Reiji to Tokyo for college, Yuko told Reiji's father and brother that Reiji was not the child of another man, causing chaos in the family. When the father began to abuse Reiji, Yuko instigated Minegishi Gen, who was close to Reiji, to kill the father to save Reiji, and had him bury the body on land owned by Gen's father, thus creating a reason for Gen to be unable to leave "this town" and to cling to Reiji. When Reiji's brother learned of this, he considered himself the root cause of Reiji's suffering and withdrew into his room. Through various events, Reiji gradually learned the truth, and ultimately chose to remain in "this town," breaking the cycle of "suicide" and misfortune = the abyss, and living with Aoe Nagi.>Up until now, I've introduced the content by following the story volume by volume, but I've not done that with this work.
>>288264518>This is partly because this work is long, consisting of eighteen volumes, but more fundamentally, it is a work with strong mystery and suspense elements. Many facts are revealed as the volumes progress, and it is impossible to keep track of them all. However, there is a strong reason why this work takes on the appearance of a mystery. This work is clearly trying to mislead the reader about the femme fatale. Judging from reading only the first few volumes of this work, it seems that Aoe Nagi is the femme fatale in this work. A femme fatale can also be said to be a trickster in order to move the story forward, and "a person who is supposed to be an idol in Tokyo who suddenly appears before the protagonist living in the countryside and invites him to commit suicide with her" is a very typical trickster and femme fatale. However, the facts that are revealed as the volumes progress prove that Aoe Nagi is not the femme fatale. Rather, the story was initiated by the protagonist's mother, Kurose Yuko, and Nozoe Asahi, who was once in a romantic relationship with Yuko. It turns out that this work begins after the conclusion of one femme fatale story, the story of Kurose Yuko and Nozoe Asahi. It was Nozoe Asahi, who is actually a pseudo-Mori Kosaku, who brought Aoe Nagi to "this town," and Nagi invited Reiji to commit suicide because Reiji had inherited from Yuko the nature of being drawn to the abyss of humanity along with his blood relation. (5/6)
>>288264552There was a period when Aoe Nagi was forced into semi-sexual activities as a junior idol, but this is a misleading reference to Kurose Yuko's past as a prostitute, and Nagi's actual "abyss" stems from feeling responsible for losing her family in the earthquake. Aoe Nagi's "abyss" is not something that has been inherited through reincarnation like Reiji and Yuko, but something sudden and baseless like the earthquake. These facts reveal that the femme fatale in this work is actually Kurose Reiji = Kurose Yuuko, a profound "inheritance of misfortune" that draws you in. This work, which began as a "gal game" type of story where you choose from "who to pick from among many heroines" such as Aoe Nagi, Shibazawa Yuri, Akiyama Sakuko, Minegishi Gen, and Kurose Yuuko, reveals the truth and exposes that the protagonist, who should be transparent in a "gal game," was the "femme fatale." (6/7)
>>288264576In the end, the protagonist chooses to break the curse, but since that curse was an "inheritance," the break must naturally be abrupt. In other words, Aoe Nagi must be the key. Reiji continued to think about committing suicide with someone until almost the very end, killing Nagi's uncle, who was the reason Nagi felt responsible, and intending to die with Nagi. After failing to kill Nagi's uncle, Reiji is told by Nagi to "say a proper goodbye to your mother" on the same bridge over the river where the first suicide attempt took place, and he heads towards his mother. In the final episode, Reiji, who has had his first ever heated argument with his mother, says to Nagi, who is waiting on the bridge, that he wants to know your real name, not the name of an idol. Nagi is surprised, smiles, and replies, "Hey Reiji-kun, from now on, we too..." The rest of the line is omitted, but it is clear that it was something along the lines of "let's live." Knowing her real name signifies his will to face the real Nagi and move forward. Having broken free from the curse by the "argument" with his mother, Reiji no longer considers participating in the cycle of suicide. From this perspective, it is clear that Nagi's line, "say a proper goodbye to your mother," which prompted him to go see his mother, meant "break free from the curse = live." In the epilogue, Reiji and Nagi are not shown, but it is said that they are living together upstream of the river.(5/6)
>>288264908>This work was a story about Reiji escaping from his curse—that is, ceasing to be a femme fatale. However, Aoe Nagi's abruptness and lack of basis, and her trickster-like involvement in breaking the curse, still make her seem like a femme fatale. However, in this case, Aoe Nagi is a femme fatale who invites him to live rather than to ruin. In the sense that her relationship with Reiji increases his capacity for activity, she is, so to speak, a healthy (good) femme fatale. If you only look at the themes of mother and son, and liberation from curse, this work is almost trite, given that it connects local customs with the femme fatale and turns it into horror. However, I see in this work one of the pinnacles of the femme fatale genre. This film pays homage in many ways to the tragedy of "Goodnight Punpun," while simultaneously forging a post-"Goodnight Punpun" landscape. It does so in a way that is almost a contradiction in terms: a "healthy femme fatale." However, this film has the strength to assert that such a thing is good and exists.(End)
>>288261885I think it's more than that. The way they sold the mountain as fast as possible makes me think that it was a shackle during their life. When the grandfather croaked the mountain was the last obstacle and they sold it ASAP, the father probably made his terms with it but the mother still has her qualms about it. It's why Mokima asking for the meat gave her that reaction. It's like a dead guy coming back. It's not an unusual story. Family head refusing to let go of his heritage. The next in line gets rid of it as soon as he is gone.
>>288264361Right. I picked up this manga *because* I was baited into thinking Nagi was a siren baiting Reiji into the watery abyss to drown with her. Turns out, my favorite character was going to be Yuko: the actual femme fatale. Also like how Aku no Hana and Pun Pun are brought up. Both have earned a place on my physical shelf. The writing of Oshimi and Asano strike the exact same cord with me that Ryou does, whose also on the shelf. I can always count on them to give me gaslighting psychotic, femme fatale fix. Which is why I'm really looking forward to Sangeki and Momiji's foreshadowed role, in particular.
>>288252479>the next esemoriWhich is rich considering he expressedly tried to stick it to yuko on this return to town and only backed down and made amends once he was irreversibly ill and once people called him out on his shit
>>288265927According to Momiji it was the mom who pushed for the mountain to be sold. She could've been lying to hurt Mikoma, but it didn't seem so. I believe she also passed the info to her grandpa which is why he visited the house on the first available excuse. The mom is bitter and desperate for the mountain to stop haunting their family. Meanwhile the dad seems flippant in comparison. His apathy was painful for Mikoma but his comment about the will could be seen as him giving his idiot son a hint. It's too early to know how much 4d chess we're supposed to expect, and from whom.
>>288266304I wonder if she simply hates that lifestyle or there is some sort of bullshit related to grandpa and Momiji's grandpa
>>288266304Yeah, Momiji and her grandpa don't seem to have done it on purpose. The grandpa probably did it out of small town courtesy/familiarity with the dead gramps. Dad mentioning the will is weird because even if it exist there is nothing you can do with it by this point. I think they just want to wash their hands of it. It's only Mokima who is still concerned about it.The family situation is a good point of interest because it shows that the only conflict exist in Mokima's head. It's what I want to see the most since it can contextualize some of the prior moments.
>>288252479Thank you for the response. The disparity in our respective interpretations is rooted in how much we take at face value. As someone who also writes creatively, I find myself dissecting and reverse engineering the author's thought process rather than reading straightforward. And since Ryou is rather consistent, I like to think I have a solid grasp on her.For example, using imagery, the author establishes the momiji leaf as a harbinger of death, not so subtly making it analogous with Momiji herself. Mikoma in his fantasy even comments the leaf is "prickly" like her: a deliberate narrative choice of words. Then we are given the legend of the woman slain on the mountain by her husband: but Ryou subverts the abusive partner dynamic by swapping the sexes with Ebihara and his ex. And Ryou makes the parallel shared between him and Mikoma clear by giving the latter Ebihara's leaf mask in the main illustration: crying. While Momiji holds the leaf sharing her name with a leering smile. This immediately disengages me from taking any "superficial" personality trait of hers at face value. Especially with foreknowledge of Ryou’s erstwhile works. Also, your "99%" comment seems off to me, as those with antisocial personality disorder or sociopathic traits are highly charismatic and generally loved by many. Need I remind you Yuko in Boy’s Abyss was ‘the goddess of the town?” You are proving the point. Yet somehow, are completely ignoring the fact that Roka, her lover who's closest to her, sees her true nature and is blatantly miserable in their relationship despite the facade he puts up in class. Why are you not questioning this neon glowing red flag but siding with the "99%?" The writing is not so coyly telling you “Momiji is not who she appears to be.” (1/3)
>>288268503>What are her crimes so far? Being a mountain hater? Smiling a bit too much? Maybe having a bit of a superficial personality but that hardly qualifies her as some evil woman entity out to manipulate, sex, and shank you for reasons that only she knows. IWe are not indicting her character solely on this, clearly. It’s the *subtlety* in her actions, which may come off as “innocent” to the non-observant. For example when she “twisted her ankle” and gave Mikoma the death smile when he offered to carry her: that was a calculated shit test for Roka. If you feel your life is in danger, you will not attempt to “walk on your own” with a limp and just let whoever carry you get you to safety. But she was sure to plant the seed in Miko’s head that Roka may not care about her. Afterwards, we get Roka’s revelation of her being a “queen” and his patent fatigue of her and their relationship, looking defeated. Then we have seemingly small chain of inconsequential things which accrue over time:>Her eavesdropping on Miko and Roka’s conversation, then telling Roka she wanted to “Go home” despite already overhearing his plans with Miko. Either to divert Roka from Miko, or to keep surveillance on Miko for whatever reason. >Her “flirting” with Kazuma, cueing Mikoma that she knows how to “play along on purpose” when it comes to stringing people along. >”Innocently” revealing to Miko, who is already isolated, that it was his *mom’s* idea to sell the mountain: applauding her decision as “a win for everyone” and that he should not return to it to not “worry [his mom]” Knowing full well how Miko feels about it.(2/3)
>>288268609 And then completely unprompted:>”Hey…you didn’t go back to the mountain, did you?”She clearly urged him not to go beforehand as of to “not worry” his mom, yet left bored and disinterested when he seemingly complied: completely contradicting her earlier sentiment. What’s more, she offers to go to the mountain *with* him after “Why would I go somewhere dangerous just so you can protect me?” Another contradiction. She then tells him Roka would not like it and that “it’ll be [their] little secret” – giving him a knowing smile as she walks away. Watering the seed she planted in Miko’s head about Roka not caring about her, making Mikoma excited at the prospect of the two of them spending private time together. This is shameless carrot and stick. Shit test after shit test. You are correct to say she has committed no “crime”, not yet, at least. But the cracks in her mask are the size of the grand canyon. Her thorns are prickling through. (3/3)
>>288268503>>288268609>>288268654You summarize it really well

>>288268503>>288268609>>288268654It’s still a bit of an overreaction to assume she is Evil Woman. If you look at her expressing the mountain sale as a good thing for Miko’s interest she actually has a point. You know it might not make sense but women irl are creatures who are built to “think” different. Their actions may not always be rational and Momiji and Miko’s mother may be a prime reflection of it. When it comes to such a thing as a “Man’s Pride” they might not comprehend it and you can kind of see the theme of this in the story with what happened to the meat, Momiji skirting infidelity with her flirting, and Miko refusing to acknowledge his crush even if it’s probably obvious to everyone especially to Momij, her woman friend, and the boyfriend.Momiji is not being evil. Momiji is just being a woman. Well until she actually does evil thing then she becomes Evil Woman.
>>288272050Preaching to the choir. "Evil" is relative. As I said in an earlier post >>288252557>Ryou so happens to write heavily flawed, multifaceted, and extremely realistic females. >>288270579Kys, Mikocel
>>288274902>I feel like everything related to him is going to stay purely negativeMikoma's entire attachment to the mountain is negatively framed, Makita 's dialogue being the smoking gun. And that's fundamentally all he inherited from his grandfather. Upon closer inspection, the "curse" is similar to the "abyss" in her previous work. Yuko's great grandmother instilled in her "People shouldn't leave the place they are born" - which onset the generation curse of falling into one's own abyss. In Esemori's mind, The Town™ was a chasm of death and reincarnation, binding souls to it in an infinite cycle -- which is why he refused to die there with Yuko. The mountain serves a similar role to The Town™, but flipped. Unlike Reiji who consciously hated his place of birth but resigned to die in it, Mikoma "loves" The Mountain and romanticizes dying on it. Which is an omen, given the ghost still searching for her corpse, unable to be free. The mountain enchants those open to its embrace and "keeps" them, much like The Town™. I feel Mikoma values the mountain less than he does maintaining some semblance of connection to his grandfather.
