Historia was perhaps even subconsciously being written as the second main character and hinted as Eren's love interest while Mikasa's character development was still stuck in Trost arc.Isayama then suddenly changed the plot direction and got Historia out of the game but forgot to develop Mikasa and only tried to hastily patch it up at the end.The entire problem lies in Isayama writing into a direction where he doesn't want to but realizes it once it's too late. Also he introduced too many characters and couldn't juggle all of them at once.
