Why do so many SJ series have legitimately awful writing? Plot holes, contrivances, I truly dont understand.

Is it the serialization? Does it force authors to start strong and then just nosedive into nonsense?

I recently read through Bleach and Yugioh, and while both were entertaining, I felt they each had enormously strange plot progression. Specifically their final arcs (Blood War and Millennium World) devolved into pure schizophrenia, with events happening at such a rapid pace, world building concepts destroyed and rewritten to fit the current happenings, all kinds of wank.

I even went on to watch YGO Dark Side of Dimensions, and I cannot even begin to describe how insane the writing process for that must’ve gone. Suddenly an 8th Millennium Item? God powers based around a previously unnamed group of elevated minds? Kaiba’s tech going into pure mysticism territory? Shadi being murdered by child Bakura (NOT the Bakura from Egypt, and this same Shadi was also Shada, who was also Bobasa, who was also Hassan, who was also a reincarnation of God, half of which existed in ancient Egypt, half in the modern world, but still considered reincarnations, but also simultaneously the literal form of God because he can become a ghost, but also not?)

Am I stupid? Why do these stories feel so absurd to me? It’s like whatever rules are established get thrown out the window to make way for more plot opportunities.

You try writing and drawing around 16 pages on a weekly basis, all the good stuff is monthly
>>
it's a Jump issue
>mangaka has idea
>manga becomes popular
>mangaka completes his idea
>editors and publishers want to milk the manga for as long as it generates money
>mangaka runs out of ideas but is forced to keep going

Vagabond was weekly during its peak, both in writing and art quality
>>
>>288280598
jump holds mangaka hostage and forces them to write for as long as possible, this is a well known issue
the mangaka don't even own the IP, so the vast majority of the profits go to the company
remember that one Kimetsu no Yaiba movie that made billions? yeah, the mangaka saw none of that money
the only exception I can think of for this is Togashi and Hunter x Hunter, he made it pretty clear before serialization that he had full ownership over it (which is why he can afford to not release chapters for months and years at a time)
it's not necessary limited to jump though, I'm pretty sure Detective Conan is handled by a committee and not just the original mangaka, that franchise makes way too much money

This is such a shame, because again using Bleach and YGO as examples, I feel like both series have legitimately good ideas and the ability to tell a good story somewhere inside the web of nonsense

Jump has had a bad history of making mangaka continue well past the point where they should have ended, on top of not giving them enough time to really plan anything.

Vagabond is also based on a novel, so the author had the basic plot ready already.

I mean, you're watching the movie of a cartoon. 1. It's a cartoon. 2. It's a promotional tie-in movie spinoff (canon) of it. Oh yeah, the plot of finished.
What did you expect? They're going to say, "let's add a new villain" otherwise there's no plot for the movie and it's gotta have the characters from the show. Incidentally, there's a manga. I don't quite get the relationship between manga and movie tbqh. Kaiba was already doing crazy things in the og so idk. But the series do have weird final arcs.

>Why do so many SJ series have awful writing
Because being an artist capable of pushing out 15 to 19 pages a week doesn't make you a good writer, and for as hard as editors try, they can't fix artists brains, and even if they could, they aren't necessarily good writers themselves. And to an extent, foolproof writing isn't all that valuable to the magazine. Despite what you're pointing out as flaws, you also say you found the manga to be entertaining enough to fully read through them. That sort of writing, that hooks someone enough for them to spend 300 yen each week, is what's most valuable to the magazine.
More to a different systemic issue, though, the weekly schedule is murderous and the magazine HAS to go out, regardless of whether or not you've written something great, or even finished. Kubo and Takahashi were both struggling with their health towards the end of serialization, if I remember correctly, and god only knows however many people have nearly crippled themselves up trying to keep up with it.

Most shonen peak and have their best moments around the middle of their run
>>

Not feally that, most mangas require to be literate and smart enough to connect the dots, others are similar but offer more visual hints.
>eyeshield 21 mamori stays in america a bit more time alone.
>when she returns to japan she brings lot of cheerleaders that look like prostitutes.
>no questions asked.
It wasn't hard to figure what happened there, but sadly you are the newer post 1990 gen "if it isn't explained with clear words isn't canon, behaviour or small hints are nothing".

Vagabond has the depth of a puddle, of course it would have less glaring flaws
>>288280680
Monthly generally lacks ambition (and blood sweat and tears)

Give more examples like this please.
