Equipped with modern medical knowledge, he faces various fatal diseases and injuries. Then, he meets the ordinary people of Edo as well as illustrious figures, and his surgical knife carves out a new history and story of life.

>>288314779Just fuck my Saki up
>>288314914There's always an economic side to things. I wish the author would look into that instead of saying "ohhhhh japanese people love white rice beri delicious". There was probably an advertising campaign or something.
>>288320052Polished rice is superior in terms of flavor and texture, simple as. There's a reason unpolished rice has been a comparatively niche health food ever since factory processing made white rice cheaply available.
>>288314914I noticed that when I was holidaying in Japan. I thought Japanese would be into wholegrains and brown rice due to it being a hip health trend, but every I go it's white rice
>>288320291The thing is rice taste so much better when you mix white rice and brown and red rice. Not only do you get a color mix, they complement each other
>>288315415Gracias.
OOooooooOOOOOOOOooooo plain white rice with nothing on it so dericious
>caught up on mangadex>no more scans
>>288315415Thank you for posting.
>>288308040This just came to me, but how much do doctors know about the production of their tools?I don't mean how to use them, since it's obvious they should know, but more so the engineering aspect of it. Like which materials their tools are made of or if something might be off and a reading of something is wrong.

>>288325333They almost certainly get all their protein from intake of semen.
>>288314842Hey, i've read a novel by that guy, The Wild Geese. Shame he was so boneheaded about beriberi
>>288325333never underestimate the power of rice
>>288314899>even into the taisho era damn, that's much more time than I thought
>>288320052It was a middle and upper class disease. It affected rural and poor populations much less. The middle class always needs to justify its position over the lower class, whom they despise to some extent (otherwise they couldn't extract wealth from them). One of the things they do is differentiate themselves from the lower class by purchasing things the lower class can't afford. Then they justify those expenses as "normal and necessary". So in modern days, you have the house with the white picket fence and the car and the perfectly mowed lawn. None of these things are necessary to life, but if you ask most middle class people they'll come up with some insane justification (usually involving muh children or muh safety) why they absolutely must live an extravagant suburban life complete with gas guzzler. So beriberi is basically the same. White rice is kind of nice, poor people can't afford it, growing new varieties artificially creates jobs and inflates the economy and allows us to extract more wealth from the poor. Therefore white rice is the best, it's completely normal to love it and eat only it for every meal, and THOSE PEOPLE who can't eat it are unfortunate souls who want nothing but white rice. It's not "the japanese love white rice". White rice was just properly positioned to become a lifestyle product that separated the haves and the have-nots, and so the haves advertised it as the core of their society. You can still see this sort of thing everywhere today.
>>288314842Ogai Mori. An idiot. S

I've caught up. I'm enjoying this manga a lot so thanks to dumpanon for introducing me to something new
