How come there are so few All-3DCG anime, let alone competently animated ones like Samurai Frog Golf? Does the industry or the target audience find it too close to 3DPD for comfort? Is pic related really the industry standard for All-3DCG anime?

because it's garbage

I feel like anime art style is uniquely not fit for CGI, unless they go full anime realism route like that old final fantasy and appleseed movie did. Which would make them look to videogaymish and it would turn off many who love uwu kawai art style. I dunno, just my two cents.

I think most studios use CG as a crutch instead of something they want to put effort into. I imagine the audience wanting 2D is something they acknowledge too, which is why they haven't shifted entirely (or mostly) over the CG like the west has, and the CG is attempted to be blended with the 2D. That being said, I think S2 of Dororhedoro's CGI is generally pretty good. Definitely an improvement on the first season. And the few performance we've had in Lulutto Lilly have looked good as well, at least in terms of visuals. The second performance was too choppy for me.

Anime is too low budget for cgi

Weird idea that you have to pay more money to get something that looks worse.
>>
>>288311110
good CGI animators move to the videogame industry because it pays better

>3DCG anime
That's an oxymoron.

I agree that the 3DCG Appleseed films, along with Advent Children, Harlock: Space Pirate, and Gantz: O are visually impressive. If only Berserk 2016 went in that direction, instead of the slop we ended up getting (how the fuck did Kentaro Miura approve of that shit, the world may never know).

Not to mention how Kimi Onoda refuses to subsidies the Anime industry (which is ironic, considering how Chibi Reviews praised her for "Efforts to Censor Anime and Manga").

Good CGI is quite expensive, shitty CGI looks unbelievably cheap, you can't hide it even with Shinbo's power point tricks
>>
>>288311110
Why do you think?
>>
Outside of outsourced segments, pop team epic was 100% CG and most people couldn't even tell
>>
>>288311110
people doesn't like the aesthetic plus most cg is used to cheapen costs so on top of that is viewed as cheapening technique

It's the opposite. The outsourced French parts were CGI. I'm sure there was more CGI throughout but it's wrong to say it was entirely CGI. If anything, stuff that would be CGI in other anime (like mechs) were hand drawn.
>>
>>288311110
That looks awful
>>
Not a single mention of Girls Band Cry which is probably the best 3DCG anime to come out in years

Etotama/Hnk and Medalist are some examples of good CG in anime.
If done well there is no problem with CG but it is often a ugly way to save money.
>>
>>288311110
>>288319439
it's a stylization problem
>>
>>288311177
But so is all modern anime, the industry is used to making garbage
>>
>>288318948
These threads tend to be retarded yeah. Stuff like GBC, Bandori, and the Love Live performances are the best examples of 3DCG since they actually retain the 2D aesthetic well.

>>288319914
haha good one pal
where do you do your comedy routines so that we can hear more of those bombs like "all anime is shit XD"

Trvth nvkes if I say so myself

I know the 2013 Captain Harlock movie had a budget of ¥3 billion ($30 million), same budget as The Wind Rises from the same year.
