Here's a time where Shigeru Mizuki straight up drew an entire sequence in the artstyle of his rival/friend Shirato Sanpei. Second, literally the best way to get good at anything, is to follow examples of those before you. Outsider art is usually only interesting in a clinical sense. If you don't read a ton of comics, you'll never make a good comic because you're not smarter than all the other artists that have already been working in that field for a century. Instead, you're just starting the 'race' from 5 miles back while everyone else is fighting as hard as they can to reach the finish line. And no, reading novels or watching films is not a replacement for reading comics if you are trying to be a comics artist. The skills required to be a good comics artist/mangaka are idiosyncratic and film directors do not know them.
