I look back at the underground tournament arc, I feel like Itagaki loved every form of combat and fighting, he wanted to portray each of them with love. Even the losers got a bit of love.I read all of the newer arcs its like he has an odd disdain for all of them. Every new fighting art exists to be oneshot by Doppo to give him more rep, or oneshot by Baki. Boxing, existed just to be beaten offscreen by Retsu who said "I barely tried and I beat every boxer in the world, fuck you". Quite literally everything in the story serves to say that the best martial arts in the world are karate, and "Eh, no real martial art but its done very skilllfully"(Baki, Yuujirou, Jack)They introduced two guys during the sumo arc, just to have them effortlessly oneshot in order to say that sumo was pure shit compared to actual martial arts in the end.

Baki characters have dedicated their lives to pursuing the ultimate ideal of Man, you don't get to scoff at them because you've dedicated nothing to anything and the only thing you're pursuing is hiding yourself away from the big bad scary world.
