It made me feel for the character a lot more than most of the sad backstories from part 2 did. Yashamaru's character made sense, too, and how he couldn't help but hate Gaara for causing his sister's death, even if he tried his best not to. I liked that scene at the end of the arc when Naruto tells Gaara how he wants to help his friends because he loves them, and then Gaara thinks back to what Yashamaru told him about love. It was pretty sad and emotional that he was still thinking back to what this person that hated him and tried to kill him tried to teach him. And the fact that he still managed to become a good person even though he was born to be a curse and a blight on other people was really nice, too. It fit with one of the main themes of the story. I think it's really stupid that part 2 had to go out of its way to retcon his past and go "oh no, ackshually his uncle and mother really loved him he just didn't know the truth". It feels so unnecessary and makes the story feel less gritty.

>>288356964i like naruto but never really as far as engaging in fan theories, shipping, or designing customer uchiha OC.i think kishi bit off more than he could chew and set himself up for failure with the world he built. it's incredibly ambitious in scale, with 9 jinchuriki, multiple villages, power systems, clans, an oddly unique technology system, etc and with so much focus on the leaf you wonder what else is out there, only to be met with disappointment.even from day 1 the series was set up to become a mess. sasuke wasn't even kishi's own idea, the hokage/kakashi were supposed to be talking animals, the chunin exams were originally taken individually, etc. with so many fundamental decisions being guided by an editor it's no surprise that it shat itself when said editor left after itachi vs sasuke. even with all the flaws i still find it to be quite fun. everything about it, even the latter stages, is iconic. the villains all have unique combat styles (or maybe rather combat aesthetics) that make them all incredibly memorable which is an impressive feat given that 90% of them wear the same robes. their combat styles are infused into their character, like deidara's clay art, sasori's puppets, orochimaru's body horror, and itachi's bullshit.i also like how a lot of the fights don't just end with "rasengan harder" victory the same way you see in other shonen. while naruto does ultimately resort to a bigger rasengan, a surprising number of important fights in the series don't involve naruto at all and i personally prefer fights like sakura+chiyo vs sasori and shikamaru vs hidan even if they are flawed.i can't think of any recent shonen where the characters really feel like they embody their powers beyond a tropey level (the fire guy gets heated! the ice guy wears blue!). while the power systems may be flawed, kishi really nailed ability identity and interplay. shadow clone, sharingan, rasengan, chidori, 8 gates, flying raijin, etc are all iconic.
