She has smaller tits and she wasn't a popular girl like Momiji. From the story one would think Taiki did the right choice for falling in love with her instead of the older woman (who seems more like Momiji based on what Taiki said)
>>
>>288363297
I've already seen a theory that the daughter is Momiji, and Leafbro moved to this town so he could spy on her.

She did nothing wrong. It was his fault for pressuring her into a relationship she didn’t want.

Moral of the story? Never be a simp. Have self-respect. Don’t chase after a girl after she already said no. And remain a virgin because women are EVIL by their very nature.
>>
Not only Mikocel should learn a thing or two about Taiki. Kazushit too, insisting on getting a yes from the girl you hopelessly simp is a spell for doom.
>>
>>288363427
Yes. Unlike the rest of you I've actually dated evil women. Not to sound like a fag but this chapter spiked my anxiety like you wouldn't believe. Especially the last page.

>Momiji but short hair
She is not though. Momiji is a popular extrovert that has red flags people wont shut up about. This girl would be the waifu people would want protected at all costs.

If anything the point here is that things are not what they appear.
>>
>>288363484
NTA. I have a different experience with scary women but I believe you. I was raped. Few other things that made me anxious became less crippling by exposure over long period of time, slowly and carefully, it's still something I hate, but I can atleast breathe thinking about it and keep my train of thought. So if you want to drop this, go right ahead.

There is still a reasonable chance the red flags were always there, but he willingly ignored them (just like he was going to resign to being a happy fuck if she confessed) because it conflicted with his ideal of who she really was underneath.

You know I think the parallels are not Taiki = Miko, Momiji = ex wife. I think its actually
>Miko = ex wife
>Taiki = Momiji
>Taiki's older gf = Roka
The ex wife personality and role matches Miko more and I don't see the point in what lesson Miko could learn from here given that from Taiki's story there was never a hint that his wife was an evil woman until he chased for another kid. From a meta perspective I think Miko is going to learn the lesson and don't do what Taiki's ex did to him

>I've already seen a theory that the daughter is Momiji.
This "theory" had no thought put into it. Ebihara had "his" daughter at age 29. He is currently 34. The resemblance is to highlight the obvious parallel between her and Momiji. As a matter of fact, an anon I was chatting with last week brought up the ex-wife may resemble Momiji if only for that reason. Unsurprisingly, he was correct.
>>
>>288363246
>character that men will never understand
>>
>>288364210
No we get it, Taiki was an idiot for staying interested in her even after being rejected, and she's also a piece of shit for playing along his fantasy just to hurt him so terribly. They're both assholes, one worse than the other.
>>
>>288364014
I was making a dark humor joke about him raping the not-daughter. Literally. If it's Ryou there's always a minor or four about to be pimped. But seriously, You have not read Boy's Abyss. She is literally just Yuko. He's couldn't give her a child and she got herself her splitting image from elsewhere. It's the same story except for the Gen part. She still has a bio dad somewhere to seach after like Reiji and if she's lucky he'll be loaded and not in debt. This one isn't her father.
>>
>>288364210
Watch the ex-wife pour it on real thick saying he fucked his best friend wingman and had his child too just to spite both of them for pressuring her.

This is "your pussy is weird" levels of overreaction. I'm praying it's revealed next chapter that he did do something worthy of betrayal because right now I've no respect for the author.

I would argue the disposition is only externally different. We can already infer the Momiji we have seen so far (sans rare glimpses like pic related and some of Ryou's art) is not who she genuinely is. The bubbly "princess" who everyone in the school loves is her mask. The quiet, introverted good girl was the ex-wife 's mask.

But beneath the mask, they're the same flavor of malignant.

The violence I do not approve of, but his wife didn't kill him, not once not twice. Seriously, see it from her perspective. He comes after her setting up his fantasy of what he wants his life to be. She's forced to be with him because the dude literally didn't give up for 6 months and God knows for how long he was going to keep asking her. He deserves it because he did this to himself, he brought a relationship with a partner who was reluctant to accept, he forced his love and worship just to live his desires. How do you know she wanted any of this? She cheated, that obviously means she wasn't able to keep feeding into his barrage of worship. What is she supposed to do in this situation? The guy literally refused to take no for an answer.

Assuming you are the autist from earlier
This point:
>comes after her setting up his fantasy of what he wants his life to be.
- is where I can agree with you. The theme of this manga is "the curse called an ideal", and we have Mikoma idealizing a fictitious Momiji throughout the story. His parallel Ebihara was also guilty of this on some level: falling in love with someone who for all intents and purposes, did not exist. Forcing that illusion onto someone can only lead to destruction.

Granted, this does not abdicate her of responsibility. I do not give her a pass because she has agency. She was not coerced into marrying this man. Or cucking him while playing the sweet l, harmless quiet girl. She could have gone full mask off and crushed any dreams he had of being with her at the very start. She chose to play along. At which point, all her future actions can be attributed to malice, most likely while playing the victim.

Ebihara did not deserve his fate, based solely on the details we have been provided. If we receive more information of her actually being pressured or trying to leave but Ebihara being insistent, I will slightly revise my stance (along with external pressure from family and peers) I can empathize more. But attempted murder has no excuse.

Yes, foid. She assumed all accountability when she refused to tell him to fuck off in the most final, heart crushing way imaginable and instead opted in being in a relationship. If females actually meant "no" when they actually "yes, but chase me harder daddy XD" - this would not be a problem.

>>
>>288367759
Not entirely impossible, but the story frames the domestic abuse to be direct: using the legend of the ghost of the mountain as a blueprint. "It happens to men too", as Mayu commented. The kill being outsourced to a rando makes it hit less, while being another repeat of Yuko. Though in defense of the argument, Ryou is recycling quite a few ideas here.

I personally do not care for that direction, all things said.

>I agree, but I don't think he is going to get rid of his crush that easily
This aligns with the foundation Ryou has set up with the mountain legend. Mikoma is the "woman who lived up on the mountain." Momiji is the "important person from the village" (Queen) who "forces [the mountain resident] to marry [them]." Which in this context, constitutes a sexual or romantic relationship. If the legend unfolds as told, Mikoma "will want nothing to do with [her]." Instead, he would "run back to the mountain." Which would embitter Momiji to the point she could, theoretically, "kill [him] and bury [his] body on the mountain [he] loves so much."

So if this is being played straight, and the run of this manga is as short as we are expecting, he needs to undergo the process of getting over throughout Act 2 while resisting any temptations or perhaps temporarily succumbing. But by Act 3, he will "lol nope" - disengaging, which will lead to dangerous consequences if Ebihara's wisdom is not integrated.

Ryou is foreshadowing Momiji's dark nature heavily, I'm just wondering why the hell she would go that far for Miko, and not, Roka, her actually boyfriend who wants fuck all to do with her.

>>
>>288372295
Exactly, I am not going to be TOO optimistic, but Act 1 is clearly introductory. My hunch is that Act 2 may be around 15 - 20 chapters. Ryou needs time to fllesh out Mikoma and Momiji's relationship to herald and introduce the toxicity we're all looking forward to, which also involves Roka to some degree. Can't speed run the most sensitive part of the story in 7 chapters while making it believable.

Not holding much hope for the manga itself being more than 35 - 40 chapters, though.

Ironically the same applies for Reiji, although he had a little more of moments, but where he felt more anger was when he disowned Gen as a friend in Tokyo, ordered him to not murder-suicide him, threatened Yuri to call the cops twice (one for using lies to destroy Chunko's future, other for brainwashing "Nagi" and kidnapping her), although his most psychotic ones were when he lashed out at his mom at the hospital and when he tried to kill Mao for the things he did to "Nagi".

All he told Miko was that he needs to start forcing himself to like something he actually does not. He's not telling him to bask in anger, but to let it go and cut it out of his life. Do you like gay porn, anon? I fucking hate it - so I stay away from it. Do you like IRL evil women? I despise them, and it's fine to "hate what I hate" and keep the cancer out of my life. Miko doesn't particularly like wild boar meat but he forced himself to eat it because the mountain symbolizes his pride as a man, and eating what came from it is a sign of respect for that concept. It was passed down to him from his grandfather the same way Taiki would have passed down baseball to his non-existent son.

Ryou has plenty of history writing plot points about challenging societal gender norms so this story is probably no different on that front.
Why couldn't Taiki have taught baseball to his daughter? It was simply his social ideal to have had a son to inherit his manly sport and it probably didn't occur to him that his daughter might have bonded just the same given some effort and that Taiki himself said it didn't necessarily need to be baseball. This fixation on having a son ironically led to his emasculation in finding out that he was infertile, his daughter wasn't actually his, and the implication that his wife was sleeping with another man.

Miko thinks of Momiji when Taiki says it's fine to hate what he hates.
While he fantasizes about a relationship with her where he's a knowledgeable giver, he resents how in reality she's inconsiderate when it comes to him and the mountain. He keeps holding out hope that she would come around to appreciate them given the chance though, so he wanted to create a situation where she would need to depend on him by luring her into the mountain, the bait being gossip of Taiki's "dark secret." Momiji seems to have plans of her own though, playing along all of a sudden after previously rejecting him, and supposedly keeping it secret from Roka.
>>
>>288385905
Miko's already aware of Momiji's queen behavior from Roka and Makita has told him that he creeps her out but he doesn't quite understand why that would be the case yet.
Hearing the story about Taiki's ex-wife might make him even more antsy around Momiji as because he relates with the feelings of emasculation from both his family selling off the mountain and the person he likes passively dissing his passion.
I could see him being nudged closer to breaking point from Taiki's words even if it was unintentional.

How are you all expecting this to end? Considering it's a short story will Miko and Momiji just repeat the cycle? Will they break it? I'm not expecting them to start liking each other or honestly and if they ever do anything intimate it will basically turn into hatesex unless we got some plot twist that Momiji secretly liked Miko all along
>>
>>288386976
Unless Momiji starts throwing extremely hot cast irons around onto Miko’s face for no reason out of nowhere I just don’t see anything happening with them unless she specifically chooses it. She has a boyfriend after all and Miko already gave her up. They can go on their mountain hike to see leaf man and…what? Hang out? I don’t really believe Miko is the type to make a move on her himself especially after hearing leaf man’s ntr story.
>>
>>288386976
Just depends on if Ryou wants to give Miko a good end or bad, I can easily see him snapping out of his Momiji delusions thanks to Taiki and Roka, but he does seem to be stubborn and pigheaded enough to ignore their warnings and fall in love with his ideal of her. Just like all her other works and just like how Taiki fell for his domino
>>
>>288386976
>some plot twist that Momiji secretly liked Miko all along
Her dislike of Mikoma's attachment with the mountain comes off as personal at times, so it wouldn't feel like much of a twist to me. I've been theorizing young Miko picked the mountain over her back in the day, and she's been quietly seething ever since.

What if Momiji tries to destroy the mountain to make Miko look at her again but the mountain turns out to be mother gaia and she kills Momiji before riding off into the sunset with Miko?
>>
What is Ryo's fixation about men with azoospermia and the wife cucking him? Makes me wonder if there's some family secret and she's putting it in her works to make them seethe.

Bad end: Miko dies on the mountain, despite being involved Momiji gets away scott free while someone else (probably Roka) takes the fall.
Good end: this one's harder to figure out. Perhaps Miko still gets attacked but survives, and he and his family move out of town. In this case I see the murder attempt being covered up. Momiji still doesn't go to jail but suffers a serious ego injury.

Men raising children who aren't there is so fucking common and one of the most base fears a man could have in a marriage. It's so bad, France outlaws paternity tests.

So is she repeating the thing she said at the party or is this for him doing a DNA test?
>>
>>288388837
I think it's meant to be like she's saying the same thing she said before but obviously, the context is different.
>>
>>288388837
She is repeating the thing she said at the party where he feels bad after saying something to her but she's implying "it's your own fault, you forced this on me".

At the party he insulted her while she was there against her will and now he did it again in their marriage implying that his relentless dogging of her is the same as the pressure she felt to attend the mixer.

Gotta wonder if Taiki is telling the entire truth too.
>>
>>288388977
I think he might be omitting his own behaviour in the marriage (for now), but I'm not gonna go down the hole of "every character is a liar for the convenience of later twists" because that's just lazy writing and Ryou has proven herself to be above that level of hackjob.

She is mocking him
>>
>>288388977
He's certainly an unreliable narrator. He claims not to have strong feelings for his ex yet also to have worshiped her. He claims to have worshiped his wife but he has almost nothing to say about her as a person, only that she was pleasant and convenient for him. It's clear he viewed his lovers through the lens of how useful they were to him. He liked that having an older ex bestowed status on him but didn't like when she acted higher status, and he liked his wife because he could 'worship' her without her making any demands of him. Even though he's probably not lying deliberately, his shallow understanding of other people makes his story incomplete.
>>
>>288388977
Him talking about the 'older woman' not respecting him and the fixation on his child needing to be a boy, as the other anon pointed out, make me think he wasn't purely good
Not to say neither of those feelings are valid, but in a piece of writing, they're intentional choices to include

>Just like all her other works
Even though Zombie and Abyss went the opposite way, with the respective MCs having to learn to fall for the real person instead of the respective ideal.
Sangeki, however, may end going straightforwardly into a Akira+Yuuko type of tragedy

The twist is that somehow Miko and Momiji make their relationship work

Personally, I'm not so sure. That *is* the standard blueprint for Ryou's works as >>288373189 confirmed. But I feel the endgame is what Makita's proposed "freedom." Free from the "curse" of the mountain that "doesn't want him" and free from the "curse of [his] childhood friendship with Momiji." Though in the case of the latter, it's Mikoma who needs to "free" Momiji from the curse, according to Makita. If I were writing the story, I would not include Makita's lines here if I wanted Mikoma and Momiji together by the end.

Though alternatively, it could work if I reinterpret "Release Princess Momiji from the curse of your childhood friendship" as "stop holding Momiji to childhood ideals", it could fit into the meta Ryou's known for.

That said, if Momiji abuses and fucks him up as the story's building up to, I'm struggling to come up with a "reconciliation" that makes sense outside of serving as a tragic warning sign for the readers.

I'm also getting tragedy from this. It'd be easier to have a tragic ending with a short series like this, at least, than it would have been with Boy's Abyss. Imagine if after all those chapters Reiji had actually an hero'd, and the story just ended like that.

Good template, but so limited in knowledge unlike CSM ending
