I think I would enjoy it more if all the episodes were more consistent, but that also gives the show a unique feeling. This anime feels like bunch of industry veterans threw together a random studio label to make an anime they really wanted to do despite no budget. Am I right? That's why the direction, music choices, and overall vibe are perfection. They even somehow turn the lack of budget into a gold, weaving the strengths and weaknesses of each art style to give each part a unique feel that works. Like objectively, the drawings at the Ibuki Botan date were pretty awful, but the weird expressions fit together with the weirdly giddy atmosphere of the date. The disjointed cgi+filtered photos as backgrounds don't bother me because the lighting is so well done and get across the sense of space very well.

Man this episode was a proper vibe. Real ennui. We often talk about cinematography and framing and all those visual elements when we talk about good directing, but the use of music often goes forgotten.However if the next episode ends up being completely different yet again, that disjointedness could really hurt the show at a time when narrative and thematic consistency need to peak. The novelty of having a different director for each episode is great but at times you just need a steady hand.

Today's date was most out of character for Ibuki but it was okay because she was alone with Botan.I guess they either didn't lay down Ibuki's original character proprerly, or in hindsight they just don't focus on characters' inner worlds much at all. Like the entire Akane part in this episode, they showed you her day at the band for you to imply her inner world without saying it.
