It’s just this edgy, cringe, over-the-top “literally me” show that somehow WORKS. If I disassemble it to its core, you can see the cracks in the story, and they would only make sense if I take the show for what it is, a functional soap opera. I mean Ayanokoji is 5'9" and weights 145 lbs, and he somewhat can overpower and beat someone like Albert because of white room shenanigans, so yeah I have some doubts about that, but that won't make me not enjoy the show. Even with the current exam, in the LN we got reminded that the tablets needed to be charged every now then, but that plot point was never addressed because yeah, maybe it was too complicated to add more stuff into an already convoluted scenario, and I can understand the limitations of the writer, and how sometimes he has to use shortcuts to finish the arc. I love CotE, but I'm not gonna fool myself to believe it's the best writing thing ever, also it doesn't need to be one. It's amusing, and that's an achievement than better works would love to have.

Jump forward 10-20 years and people complain about the exact opposite, that the main cast isn't visually super flashy with atypical hair color and spiky hairstyles... and yet with vidya people hate somehow also still hate Normura designs despite always being ""unique"".
