And the probable reason for that is that it would have made way more sense for Kaede to get stuck fighting Gaudà (who is literally after the ghosts she has with her now and presumably might even be able to sense them) instead of having her sneak around for one scene, enter the Nero fight in a bizarrely misdirected scene, and job after killing phase 1, but the series was incapable of having two fights running in parallel.
People overstate the importance and required frequency of abiding by Chekhov’s gun, especially when the original quote was about prop economy in short stage plays and when writers like Hemingway and even Chekhov himself wrote works in which it was deliberately not applied. But in a show that's as pressed for time as this one, which is already skipping chunks of the story, and which chose to dedicate a not insignificant time to this and has kept bringing it up, it absolutely needs to be in play. If the superior capabilities and supposed danger of Kaede's new weapon end up not being shown then several minutes dedicated to bringing them up should have been spent on any of the other things we skipped over instead.
