He just has to hold on long enough that he can get in a bruise or two on Yumi (something nobody in either team could expect Koga to do against a former Fang of Metsudo) and long enough that he earns the respect of both Purgatory and KA veterans. This could lay the groundwork for him going under the tutelage of people like Medel, Lolong and Agito. Which is what ends up happening later anyway, but instead of making it feel like something out of the blue, I want to rewrite it in such a way that it feels earned. That Koga has earned their respect before being even considered as a student.

You know what I'm talking about. It's so easy to bullshit some kind of contrived canon reason to keep a story going, but kudos to the author for not giving into that temptation. Meanwhile, Sandrobitch is doing everything he can to keep Omega going forever.
