He has limited stamina still and the other characters are at risk, I don't think this was ever meant to be a series where we'd be worried that John would lose a fight or die himself, it's more about general survival and the planet being taken back.
Pano was already established as on the higher end of the power spectrum and this arc still had risk for a lot of the other characters and she herself lost, so I'm sure the mangaka can come up with stuff to limit John's power if it's ever needed.

The alien-human hybrid transformer angle already feels played out, and it's been power-crept anyway.
At full strength, John is theoretically just stronger than Leon, so their eventual showdown will probably need some kind of equalizer to make it interesting.
This arc seems to be establishing the whole "gain power through cannibalism at the cost of your sanity" mechanic. Is that where things are headed?
The current boss fight is already operating at roughly city-level stakes, and from the perspective of basically any NPC, it's an absolute nightmare.
So where does the story go from here? Do future arcs have to keep escalating the scale and spectacle to stay compelling?
Humans are already mostly irrelevant outside of the mandatory elite antihero sword guy. Now he's got a lightning sword too, apparently (sold separately).

I have a feeling Leon is cannibalizing hella adaptors off-screen and he's going to be really powerful, but he has also turned Pigley into an adaptor since he was a baby and that process has made Pigley enormously inconceivably powerful, his potential is beyond comprehension!! Maybe he has done something with Pigley and the Alien Queen which has led to some abomination.
Leon goes to kill John and co. but John easily murks Leon right in front of Pigley. From Pigley's point of view he sees John as a merciless and brutal murderer who mocks Pigley and Leon. This fuels Pigley's revenge, now he finally understands why Leon raised him like he did and what it means to hate.
Timeskip and Pigley is now a teenager and has grown unfathomably powerful, he is going to get revenge on John, because Pigley is MAD while John has settled down and carved out a strong and self-sustaining community that can thrive in the hostile world of the Aliens.

Do you people even read the manga? Leon established that there was something akin to this right when Jericho fell. It was directly brought up again at the start of this arc by Bob that the character Leon was talking about did, in fact, go crazy from cannibalizing.

There is no need to fear John getting stronger. The emotional stakes of this manga is revolved around keeping the humans alive since they represent the support pillar for adapters. The theme of family has been omnipresent throughout the story and it made it clear that hardships can only be overcome with having others around you, especially if you don't want to lose yourself in the process.
Even if you divorce the situation from its emotional weight and purely looked at it from a pragmatic angle. Humanity needs regular folks to survive since adapters are infertile. It means nothing to survive alone in the ruins of the world when no one is there to build afterward.

It's just a matter of the first segment of the story being somewhat refreshing and the manga just falling back to a very generic template that we've already seen thousands of times but without the vast array of wacky esoteric abilities that you'll usually see in other battle shounen, which helps in reducing the fatigue. If the author really goes the "from now on it will be about John just punching other alien-men" route, I at least hope his opponents will get some interesting mutations that display something else that big explosions.
(Also you can still tell a story of a guy traveling a post-apoc world and saving people without making it a serie of city-wrecking punch-fests.)

The series was obviously going to be action-oriented as soon as adapter Leon appeared. Thing is even without the action parts we had a lot of good interpersonal conflict and thematic parrallels. Such as John's character development and dilemma after the Jericho rampage, or how each of the major adapters define the concept of family. The author really has no shortage of ideas to utilise beyond the battle appeals. I trust him enough to use them well, especially after reading his oneshots.

Given how all of them are sorta MAD I can see the twist being some sort of progressive loss of sanity, the more you transform the more your brain permanently becomes alien-like and you start turning into a mindless beast, it would also possibly explain why cannibalism makes adaptors go insane as it might accelerate a permanent mutation process.
John being a horned mutator could mean that the process is even faster so he can't use his full form all that much.

Unless this was stated somewhere, I don't think that's the case. Pano's explanation didn't mention anything about a time limit. Yeah it consumes energy and they need to eat a lot, but that's about it. It's more about the mastery than about a powerlevel. To begin with, they've all 'adapted' to being part aliens. This is not some power they exude, this is part of who they are now. The only matter is the control, like a child learning how to walk.
So with John's horned form, it will take longer to master, so it makes sense to give him a time limit for the time being.
