I'm not sure what I expected, but it wasn't that...

Reminder that Jin-Roh is anime for people who don’t like anime.
>>
>>288476123
What about anime for people who don't like you?
>>
>>288476123
90% of the people who claim to like Jin-Roh never watched it, they only saw clips of the few action scenes it has, so they have no idea most of the film is slower paced intrigue / psychological thriller.

Nah, it's very anime thing to have a flashy, edgy presentation but focus on different things
>>
>>288476070
Way more boring than expected.
>>
>>288476070
I dropped this along with Texhnolyze
>>
>>288476266
Do you like stuff
>>
>>288476123
Damn so you mean it's actually good and watchable for people that aren't losers?
>>
Just your usual 2deep4u type anime that was all the rage back then. The story is shite but the animation saves it hard.
>>
>>288476070
The political aspect being about the necessity for violent secret police and that these men aren't actors but are naturally inclined to be this way, was interesting.
I didn't find the idea that the MC was always a double agent to be that convincing. We saw the world through his eyes and he was a dullard.
>>
>>288476321
I like stuff.
>>
>>288476475
The MC is to simple guy to be a double agent, the leader of the pack is like a father for him
>>
>>288476556
I guess not double agent. That terminology was wrong.
But that his whole thing was always a charade, that he was intentionally a fuck up so that he could sniff out the conspiracy from the inside for the Panzer Cops.
Maybe I was mistaken, but I got from the film that the MC intentionally screwed up so he could get put into the retraining camp and then get hooked up with the girl and yada yada.
>>
>>288476070
Yes, you expected cinema, but watched kino instead.

>>
I didn't get it, why did he have to kill red riding hood?
>>
>>288476755
He's a wolf.
She's a loose end.
Its a doggy dog world out there.
>>
>>288476613
Don't think there was so deep planning behind this, the incident where he failed started the conspiracy but as wolf brigade is an elite unite with its own intelligence, they started to act preemptively. He probably got brief instructions what to do
>>
>>288476070
Now watch The Red Spectacles.
>>
>>288476755
They put everything on the survival of the unit, she saw too much, she knows too much. As she can't be a wolf, her fate is prescribed
>>
>>288476070
I loved this movie. Gorgeous animation for even the most mundane segments where people are walking, their facial expressions, how fluid and natural movement looks. Those parts don't get the appreciation they deserve, not to take anything away from the action scenes but seeing those small details that you rarely get in tv anime is really striking
>>
>>288476755
Because despite all his pretensions about being a good person deep down, he was just a bootlicking grunt psychologically incapable of defying a direct order
The whole theme of the setting is "you can't negotiate with authoritarianism, and authoritarians only make things worse"
>>
>>288476070
i really wonder what the film would've been like if oshii had stuck with the project, it's such an outlier compared to the other two. but maybe that was always the plan
>>
>>288477097
He also didn't wanna die.
>>
Little Red Riding Hood: the Anime.

One of the most grim, shocking, and soul-crushing animations. I wanted to end it all...
>>
>>288476070
Mamoru Oshii sensei has the paralleled talent to make the most compelling ideas boring as fuck
>>
>>288478814
Oshii just wrote the initial draft of the script and wasn't involved with the production past that.
>>
>>288476070
I feel like Oshii has enough of a describable style to where if you've seen enough of his works you'd have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Which is evidently a lot of scenery shots.
>>
>>288476070
First time I watched this I had only ever seen this picture and I think one other and I thought the movie was going to be about Nazi's or legally-distinct Nazis.
>>
>>288477097
I think the film always says that there are certain people that are born to be hunters in society, and they will do whatever it takes to stay in that role.

Avalon is the best Oshii work in the Kerberos saga.
>>
>>288476070
Did you think it would all be deathsquad shooting action?
I for one really enjoyed it.

...yes?
>>
>>288480934

How much is the cool deathsquad shooting action? I have a very short attention span so
>>
>>288476123
This! Where are all the impact frames?
>>
>>288481467
There is probably about 5 minutes of it split into two parts, at the start and end of the film.
Most of the film is a slow and somber character drama.

>Now watch The Red Spectacles
Honestly it takes a certain type of person to enjoy the other works. I still need to track down the manga/comic whatever it was.
>>
>>288481835
Never seen Talking Head. I do love Tachiguishi Retsuden, and liked the reference in Gosenzo-Sama Banbanzai
>>
>>288476070
I really, really enjoyed this film.
Like for most of the show, you're seeing a guy walk headlong into a trap. You know it's coming, everyone knows it's coming, his compassion is being exploited and he's going to get fucked.
But then it turns out he was setting a trap for THEM instead, and that it was actually an even more cruel form of manipulation. The scene where he finally dons the armor and the resulting sewer shootout is great.
>>
>>288481835
You can go deeper and get one of Oshii's more infamous works, Wanwan Meiji Restoration. It's full of kerberos manga gags by Tetsuya Nishio
>>
>>288477097
>"you can't negotiate with authoritarianism, and authoritarians only make things worse"

You might want to look into Carl Schmitt and also this thing called "asymmetrical counter-concepts".
>>
>>288481453
Are you asking a question?
You know "?" is a question mark, not an intonation mark, but I'll forgive you since English is probably not your first language.
>>
>>288484540
no I'm stating something in a way that implicitly asks the question "why did you ask this?"
this is a commonly expressed tone in verbal communication and this is the only way I've ever seen to express such an idea succinctly in written text.
if you weren't autistic you'd know that.

Was it even related? I kinda liked it but it was about vr game in the dystopian world
>>
>>288480422
being taken and groomed to be a soldier from childhood isn't "being born to be a hunter". These people wouldn't have just independently formed a roaving band of serial killers had that not been done to them
>>
>>288485780
It doesn't work like this, you can make soldiers by training 100 kids, but only a few of them would become elite soldiers. This sentiment about wolfs among men isn't that simple as might sound
>>
>>288481835
The manga is kinda like a mediocre version of Ghost in the Shell.
>>
>>288487377
Ghost in the Shell as the world knows it, was made by Ooshi. Originally, it's a forgettable, vulgar comedy

>futuristic game setting, yet everyone is wearing soviet-era equipment
>abhorrent Polish voice acting
i just couldn't take Avalon seriously.
I've rewatched it with JP dub recently, but it was still very mid.
I found making of and everything around the movie to be extremely interesting though. The culture shock of Japan vs pre-EU Poland.
>>
>>288491185
Since you're still in the juvenile, pretentious "popular=bad" stage of immaturity, where you think people are really impressed by you knowing about anime less popular than demon slayer, why would you even be mad about him stating the simple fact that Ooshi's GitS movie is what the average person thinks of if they've heard of GitS at all?

>The Männerbund (German: 'alliance of men') refers to the theoretical Proto-Indo-European brotherhood of warriors in which unmarried young males served for several years, as a rite of passage into manhood, before their full integration into society.

>Scholars such as Kim McCone (1987) and Gerhard Meiser (2002) have theorised the existence of the Männerbund based on later Indo-European traditions and myths that feature links between landless young males, perceived as an age-class not yet fully integrated into the community of the married men; their service in war-bands sent away for part of the year in the wild, then defending the host society for the rest of the year; their mystical self-identification with wolves and dogs as symbols of death, lawlessness, and warrior fury; and the idea of a liminality between vulnerability and death on one side, and youth and adulthood on the other side.

this, but legitimately and unironically. I love the animanga art style and aesthetic, but i can't stand all the japanese mannerisms, unfunny japanese "humor", or the common anime genres like highschool romcom or battle shonen.
anime is a great medium, but it's a lot better when the content doesn't focus on the typical anime crap.

What? Nobody even tried to negotiate at any point. It was two authoritarian outfits trying to beat one another and also an anarchist/activist/unknowable political entity third faction that generally made shit worse and was used as a gambit by both parties.

My nigger.
I thought I was the only weirdo who find this scene somehow titillating.
