I find Sakaki and all her stories really boring, and you're wrong about being better than Nichijou. But Azumanga Daioh is a great show and I do like how Sakaki takes care of Chiyo when everyone else bullies her. So Sakaki still gets a thumb's up from me.

Azuma has a really good sense of humor, but the anime adaptation also worked hard to stand on its own feet, adding a lot of timing-related jokes that weren't present in the original yonkoma. When I rewatched it recently, I noticed how many jokes are done through sheer silence and long pauses.
Nichijou has a different sense of humor. Arawi loves nonsensical comedy that tries to make you laugh through absurdity. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But when it does, it really fucking does.

Anyone who claims to be a fan on the medium really needs to have watched both shows. Azumanga is quite unique in how it presents its adaptation. It's worth seeing for that alone. And then Nichijou is just peak comedy from a legendary studio.

I don't know that I like 4koma as a format generally speaking. It's decent for a quick laugh but I feel like a lot of emotional depth is lost. The anime is able to dwell on things longer. Things feel more human. Like it's more than just set ups for a punchline.

That's a funny way of spelling Kagura

Azumanga Daioh is another one of these "i woud have liked it way more 15 years ago" shows.

Its like a worse school rumble without the romance.

Why do goys like it?

Nichijou is a very unique comedy in that it's not funny at all.

On a sidenote, it's interesting how Pani Poni Dash! is a link between Azumanga and Nichijou.
Original Pani Poni manga author Hekiru Hikawa brought apparent Azumanga character archetypes to his manga. Child prodigy Chiyo served as a basis for little genius teacher Becky. The banter between Rei and Himeko is reminiscent of Yomi and Tomo. Also, Azuma drew an endcard for the anime adaptation, PPD.
Nichijou manga started one year after PPD anime ended, and it's possible Arawi heard and watched the show, since it was relatively popular at the time. The Professor/Hakase is a clear reference to Becky. Mai's personality and character are straight-up like Ichijou, except less murderous. Also Nano's character might've been inspired by Roboko (which in turn is a character played by one Pani Poni girl, Serizawa).
So in a way, if there hadn't been Azumanga (and Pani Poni [Dash!]), there wouldn't have been Nichijou

I find Azumanga very comfy. It is very much a slice of life show but at the same time it feels like the whole thing takes place in a dream. Ichigo Mashimaro gives me a similar feeling but that show is 100% grounded in reality (or by comparison it is anyway).

I guess i was kind of toying with Tomo or maybe, like. Kagura or something somehow ending up as the controller of Tetsujin #28.
i thought about making Chiyo Chichi some sort of Lovecraftian being. maybe a form of Nyarlathotep. but probably won't go that route.

The lack of forced animation helps
>>
>>288492649
Ah yes, we hate those forced frames here. Just make characters vanish when they get near the edge of the screen. That's much better.
