It's incredible how a show as influential as this could be so forgettable and downright amateurish.It's obvious that they blew the entire budget on animation and forgot to hire writers because the only thing Gunbuster has going for it is that it looks good, the actual plot and and characters are atrocious, nonsensical and one-dimensional.So many latter shows have do what this Gunbuster did but much better.Talk about aging poorly.Only worth watching for its historical value, if Gainax and Anno weren't attached to it no one would give a shit.

So much happens in Gunbuster in so little time, and most of it is just shown rather than told, that it's hard to register the first time you watch it. It's an extremely sad and nuanced story that gets over people's head and the only remember it as "cool giant robot action with tits". It's an acquired taste.
