I'm going to go back and watch Bubblegum Crisis/Crash/2040 for the first time in probably more than 20 years.Should I watch the sub (like a civilized person), or the dub (for nostalgia purposes)?
Just watched Bubblegum Crisis OVA recently and while the visual is absolutely stunning the plot sucks major dick.
20 years and you didn't learn Japanese?

>>288498223Do I look like some kind of god to you?
>>288498223The pain. Also the pain of knowing I'm not going to learn it over the next twenty either.
>>288498518I know that feel bro, I wish my brain could retain this sort of information, but I'm two stupid
>>288498105You are allowed to rewatch your early animes dubbed, so long as you acknowledge that subs are superior.I do the same with original Evangelion.
>>288498105get a dual audio release and alternate between episodes
>Crisis>1080p BR>Crash>1080p BR>2040>480p DVD
>>288498670This might be fun, it keeps the experience fresh. In a future re-watch you do it the opposite way.
>>288498670You're a barbarian
>>288498722Asuka macros being the sign of low IQ works just perfickly.
>>288498826I mean I know because the originals were shot on film or whatever. I AM still low IQ thoughever

>>288498105Just a warning. Watching shows you enjoyed during your childhood or teenager years won't hit the same again after such a long time.
>>288499836Oh, I didn't enjoy them
>>288498518>>288498105screenshot Nene's pantsus.
>>288499893LEWD
>>288498670absolute savage
>>288498105The dub is very badly mixed on the OVAs. Almost unwatchable. Most of the ambience and SFX are almost muted.
>>288498105Subs for the first and second, dub for 2040. It's unironically one of the best dubs from that era, to the point that at least one line that was ad-libbed in english got added to the official dub in other languages.
>>288498105I can't speak for the old ones but DO NOT watch 2040 dubbedwhoever they got to sing Priss's songs sucks so bad
>>288498199>the plot sucks major dick. It's a typical B-movie plot that's generally light on the ground and not what you're here for anyways. One of the major sources of inspiration was Streets of Fire, a movie which is also fucking awesome but has a plot that's barely fucking there.
>>288499836>Watching shows you enjoyed during your childhood or teenager years won't hit the same again after such a long timeThat's only if they're weakass crap though. If what you saw was legit good it should remain as good as when you first saw it. BGC might be a mixed bag here though, because while it does have a lot of entertainment value and draw, every series stops short of being something properly substantial in some way.>>2884981052030 stuff is something you should pretty much treat as an extended sequence of music videos where the vibes are the point. Definitely watch it subbed for most accurate to Japanese audio.2040 is a completely different beast and is one of the few things where the Japanese acting is actually so horribly bland and disappointing compared to the English that it absolutely will not hit the same. I almost suspect you're asking this specifically so that people here can make this point. You would be shocked to learn how little personality most of the characters had in the original, the gaijin dubbing pretty much saves the show from being outright awful. Like >>288502769 says, it's uniquely good at adding a sense of charm, memorability and even 'professionalism' to what was otherwise mostly very badly directed in Japanese.>>288503265I haven't seen the 2040 songs in Japanese, but music is one aspect where 2040 seriously falters compared to 2030. If 2030 is like "the 80s seen at their best", 2040 is like 90s style music at its weakest. I might check this out to see if you're right, but I still stand by the statement that BGC 2040 is the next best example of dub legit seriously improving over the dub that isn't Black Lagoon.
