Alright, it is Thursday and I am gonna post the ninth volume of Yashahime Princess Half-Demon. Feel free to react or comment on any panel, though I appreciate if image replies are not used during the dump. Feel free to discuss anything related to Yashahime (or Inuyasha) after the dump.Yashahime was initially created as an anime-only sequel to Inuyasha by Sunrise. The designs of the main cast were provided by Rumiko Takahashi. I have not watched the anime. The manga adaptation was made after the first season and was written and drawn by Takashi Shiina, the creator of Ghost Sweeper Mikami and most likely the biggest Rumiko Takahashi fan in the world. As such, I decided to read and story time this series as well. My commentary will be sparse as I am completely new to the series, but I hope you enjoy the look into Shiina's take on the Inuyasha world.Previous thread: >>288392975I will be using the official localization of the manga by VIZ. Be aware that some of the larger images may have been edited to be lower quality due to image size limits. Unfortunately, my source of the scans does not have Vol. 9-10 and I didn't want to take a quality hit, so I am going to use worse image of the cover and use the VIZ localized version of the individual chapters for the final two volumes. I apologize.
Chapters 37-41 and not 36-39 as Furinkan says. September 25th, 2024. Author's note:"I started playing Zelda again after taking a few months off and I had forgotten how the controls work and how to navigate the area."
Hello OP
>>288531867Pretty gross. Furinkan decided to just translate all of Shiina's blog entry in one so I'm just going to split it up in like three or so segments and put it in the last few posts of the chapter so as to avoid spoiling anything.
>>288531897Those were the days.>>288531894Hello! Sorry for the delay.
>>288531920
>>288531931
>>288531992I mean, it is cute but I will admit that Kirinmaru's motivations and their obvious rebuttal don't hit me emotionally very much.
>>288532028
>>288532036Almost certainly could've just smelled it, but just felt like it.
>>288532045
>>288532054!!
>>288531827Heya OP. I'm standing by if you need any raw requests. This chapter can be a bit wild.
>>288532065In the arena!!>>288532075Sounds good. Feel free to chime in if anything seems super off in the localization.
>>288532098
>>288532106
>>288531867Cuuuuuute>>288531897The reveal last week that his mask was to cover his possessed eye was pretty good. The mask kind of just didn't do anything in the anime.
>>288532116Azure Dragon Wave is not in the original Inuyasha manga.
>>288532199So, that answers a question regarding it.
>>288532210I do like the many little eyes in his oozing eye, as it mimics the appearance of the grim comet. And yeah, the font's different. I imagine the original Japanese text had something similar.
>>288531867That's not how you hold a baby, Sesshomaru...
>>288532253So, there's our explanation of that as well.
>>288532272
>>288531920At the cost of destroying the entire universe, you raging faggot.
>>288532028He's been such a dick over the course of the story that I just flat out can't feel bad for him, even knowing the Grim Comet has been puppeting him.
>>288532045Her dad would do the exact same thing...
>>288532281Hm... I found this to be a little unusual. Sort of consolidating while also keeping it separate. I don't know if this is writing around some aspects of the anime. So, the plot device tree is but one part of the plot device.
>>288532380
>>288532389Power levels, man.
>>288532210>>288532253>I MUST DESTROY THE UNIVERSE FOR THE SAKE OF MUH NOSTALGIA AND KILL MY OLD RIVAL/FRIEND'S/UNREQUITED GAY CRUSH'S CHILDRENSomebody slap him.
>>288532404!!
>>288532380The anime didn't even make an attempt to explain it, Towa just fell through a random portal that happened to open next to her for no reason.
>>288532418Well, she did say run.
>>288532404A glare that really CAN kill.
>>288532444See, a collar. And she has dog ears (I think?). I don't really get Rion as a character. I mean, I understand she's motivation for Kirinmaru and is a tortured little tragedy ala Kohaku, but I can't care as much about her?
>>288532444OH NO
>>288532481
>>288532494!
>>288532199>>288532272Sounds Kirinmaru basically constructed this room to be like Babidi's ship in DBZ. The more Sesshy powers up and the stronger moves he uses, the more energy the room will capture.
>>288532504I'll start posting Furinkan's translation of the Shiina blog post:"This is a preparation chapter for the final developments. I drew a single-image title page for the first time in a while, so that readers could enjoy a heartwarming scene from everyday life, even if it was just for the title image. It shows the Sesshomaru family after the twins were born and they had settled down, and just before the time transfer occurs. Now, Kirinmaru, who was treated as the mysterious mastermind, finally starts to get involved with the main characters in earnest. That said, in the comicalization, which is rushing the story forward, he basically goes head-to-head with Sesshomaru. The half-demon princesses are in charge of the Grim Comet, and the plan is for the mother and daughters to simultaneously fight on two fronts to bring the story to a close."https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2024/09/
>>288532504Assuming there is a new reality at all, you mean.
>>288532540The flashback panel is pretty effective even as photocopies. More blog post:"In the comicalization, the scales on the face are reinterpreted as "encroachment by the Grim Comet." Spoilers assuming that you've watched the entire anime are as follows...In the anime, the broken horn becomes Riku, and the arm that is thrown into the Bone Eater's Well becomes Kirin, but I combined those to storylines into just the horn. In other words, in the anime, Riku and Kirin were contrasted as characters with similar circumstances, but in the manga, Kirin is a mutant version of Riku, or rather, his original self. In Sumisawa's script, they are "created dolls" struggling to obtain a real soul, and Riku is the one who succeeds, and Kirin is the one who fails. So I thought that by combining the two like this, I could save a lot of page space while using the same motif. So it's not like it's an original development. From my perspective, it's still within the scope of an anime adaptation."
>>288532566More blog post, though that's the end of the entry. "Although Rion had been manipulated against her will and was tricking Riku, I wonder what she will do after this. To begin with, she is a character in an unredeemable situation. I'd like to make the story flow in a way that reflects the scriptwriter's skill in making her come to her senses, so I'm considering some context for the final ending that will be adapted to the comicalization. I plan to have Inuyasha and his friends play a different role in the future than in the anime, and if all goes well, we can end the story nicely in just 10 volumes... probably. It's a four-cour anime, but the manga has lasted for three years, even though it's been adapted into a fairly condensed story. I knew that from the start, but it's still hard work (laughs)."
>>288532590!!
>>288532606End of chapter! I assume the term for shadow here was the same as before: 影 (shadow/silhouette/reflection).
>>288532566>>288532606This is advanced levels of cucking.
Chapter cover's a bit later down the line! Meanwhile, in the future...October 25th, 2024. Author's note:"This was my first visit to the Shogakukan building since it was renovated."
>>288532666Definitely ominous.
>>288532640It's over...
>>288532684
>>288532699Here's the cover.
>>288532709
>>288532729
>>288532742!!
>>288532750Going for it!
>>288532640Yup, it's 影.>その角より生まれし影、もう一人のあなた だ。I assume this whole Ego Death Brainwashing thing is why they opted to go with Shadow rather than 'Incarnation'.
>>288532762Furinkan reminds us that: ""Tenseiken" (天星剣/Heavenly Star Sword) is the new name given to Zanseiken (斬星剣/Star Beheading Sword) by Myoga in chapter 34." I mean, the name is more for the combined technique than the sword.
>>288532782To be honest, I found this a bit surprising, but I try not to think about power levels.
>>288532709They're so CUUUUUTE
>>288532794At this point, he's effectively just using it less like a universe-restarting time-unraveling thing and more just... transportation that others can't use easily.
>>288532817To what end, Rion. Don't we have other things going on.
>>288532827Uh, yeah.
>>288532840Clone? This might be worth checking the raws against.
>>288532847Past the panel is always fun.
>>288532817I think his logic is Sesshy has clearly stopped him from succeeding several times already, so he wants to time travel to somewhere Sesshy can't find him and finish it there.
>>288532860I don't know what a knight calls the person they are a knight to. So, maybe it was just "my love" or something.>>288532862I mean, yeah. Just... not all that exciting. At least to me. Not that I don't want more modern era stuff. I was wondering how that was going to happen after someone mentioned that it happened in the anime. And I guess "our time travel method always goes 500 years into the future" is as good a reason as any.
>>288532915Goodbye, Towa...
>>288532847>望み通り遊んでやろう。>I'll play with you just as you wish.>仕事は分身にやらせるまで。>I'll leave the work to my duplicate/clone.This one actually uses 分身 (ぶんしん) like Naraku used to say.
>>288532925!!
>>288532935Goodbye Jaken, as well...>>288532930Makes sense to me! Maybe VIZ should've gone with incarnation then. Then again, they used many different terms in Inuyasha over the course of the series.
>>288532974!
>>288532983Something about the framing of the first panel with Sessh made me laugh on reread. I think the lack of motion lines make it seem like he is just letting this part happen. Which he might be, honestly.
>>288532974JAKEN NOOOOOO
>>288533007
>>288533007He had to pause to aura farm for a sec, it's part of his contract.
>>288533018Sesshomaru's daughters aren't going to take a little getting bisected lying down!
>>288533038Yeah, Shiina didn't bother showing torn or bloodied clothing. But I do think based on his blog that he intended it to be as dramatic a blow as initially depicted.
>>288533061A bit silly, honestly. I'm not asking to see her organs or bones or anything but like, you can't treat it like it cut past the clothes.
>>288533081Anyway, more blog post:"It's already the December issue for this year. I understand that it's customary to for the cover date to be one month earlier, but the special edition of Sunday is released at the end of the month before the issue, so it's more than a month earlier. I'm not sure which month's issue is the right one to draw Christmas stories in. Well, I don't have any plans for such seasonal stories at the moment.Well, this time we've covered how Towa and the others return to the present day. Inuyasha ends neatly with the closure of the Bone-Eater's Well, which connects the Sengoku period and the present day, and I imagine that those involved in the anime were concerned about what to do with it. As a result, the time travels that occur several times in the story were all on different routes, but in the manga adaptation, the settings, episodes, and characters were reorganized here and there, and I narrowed it down to two routes: the "Route by the Tree of Ages" and the "Route via the Windmill of Time". There is only one more trip to make- the return from the present day to the Sengoku period will be the last."https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2024/11/
>>288533093More blog post! No tanuki yokai in the present. "I drew the scene where Riku slashes at Towa pretty brutally. I was reluctant to give the heroine a sword wound, but as a half-demon, I think she needs to accept the bleeding and violence. If she doesn't have the same toughness as Inuyasha-senpai, I can't send her out into the world of Sengoku Otogi Zoushi with confidence, and I feel like the girls would get angry if the author went easy on them just because their girls. It can be difficult to depict blood in anime, so I took advantage of the strength of being a manga and drew it straight out. Anyway, she's a half-demon, so don't worry, she'll be cured properly by next month. So the next chapter will be set in the present day. In fact, I forgot to update this blog and I've already finished drawing it. I think it turned out to be a pretty good chapter, so please look forward to it.And sorry to have kept you waiting, the latest volume, volume 8, will be released on November 18th. It will be released at the same time as volume 22 of MAO, so be sure to buy them both."
>>288533107You know, looking at it now, it really was just that one panel. It admittedly is the clearest shot of her. And of course, this sequence is a reference to the last time.
>>288533081>He missed my vitals, Riku must still be in there!Honey your uncle survived your father literally punching through his stomach and spine, even if he did hit your vitals you might not know it.
>>288533124I like the upside down exit. Also, a Rumic gesture.
>>288533139End of chapter!
>>288533038>rare Sesshomaru fangs sightinggod I want him to bite me with those
I imagine that the manga probably should've been subtitled Princesses Half-Demon. Also, cover's on the next page.November 25th, 2024. Author's note:"My favorite winter activity is sitting under a kotatsu at a campsite in winter and reading manga."
>>288533196I don't know enough about sword fighting to know if this stance has a name. I will say, as a layman, it does not look particularly intimidating.
>>288533219!
>>288533219>Reverse-grip stanceSesshy is always about that aura farming life.
>>288533235You're welcome.
>>288533248Towa tits!
>>288533248It is not self-indulgent! It is just indulgent. Yup, Shiina can't help himself. Furinkan notes that: "Setsuna is wearing a piyo-piyo apron like the one worn by Kyoko Otonashi in Maison Ikkoku." But she also has the broom.
>>288533287Surely you don't need the apron though.
>>288533310
>>288533324The future is a foreign country, I guess.
>>288533248damn Sesshy's daughters are stacked
>>288533342Honestly, the super market is pretty new in the grand scheme of things. You wouldn't need to travel too far back in time to find someone who'd be impressed by it. Then again, you might not have to travel back in time at all. Another Rumic gesture.
>>288532709>literally wearing the TOP DOG capSHIIIIIIINAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAaaA
>>288533371Furinkan notes that among these items, you can see one with some Rumiko Takahashi characters! But they're wrong. Well, they're wrong about who it is. You can clearly see horns on the one on the left, so that's Lum. And then there's Ranma. WacDonald's was first used by Rumiko Takahashi in Inuyasha. I don't know what all the rest is a reference to, if anything. Well, I know that Sister Donut is a reference to Mister Donut.
>>288533441
>>288533465Sigh... after surviving so long, the phone had to break now.
>>288533481No video this time.
>>288533145>Best PAPA is back>Higurashi shitposting is backWEARESOB---->>288533481>>288533491ACK!!
>>288533491We can't have quite the same scene we had before in reverse. Some of it is due to it being a bit redundant of course, but I imagine a lot of it was Shiina respecting Rumiko Takahashi's wishes about Kagome not coming back. This is still a nice touch and even if it isn't as big a scene as the other one, I appreciated it and was touched.
>>288533522No stick baths for a bit.
>>288532666RE-ENTER
>>288533530Yeah. Haagen Dazs is popular enough in Japan, I guess. Also, they're American and the name is just vaguely European gibberish.
>>288532709Our cute heroes!
>>288533557>Yashahime but mae by Sorachi
>>288533557I did catch this while reading, but in case you're unfamiliar, Furinkan notes that: ""It's like the dragon palace from old fairy tales." - Setsuna is referring to the "Ryugu-jo" (竜宮城), the dragon palace in the story of Urashima Taro. The palace is said to have wealth and comforts beyond belief and Urashima Taro was taken there for his kindness towards a turtle. To Urashima Taro a few days seem to pass, but when he returns to his home, centuries have elapsed."
>>288532817He basically just wants to escape somewhere where he can stall and complete his goals without anyone knowing until it's too late.
>>288532840Seshy, I thought you were being LESS tsun now.
>>288533568
>>288533586For Kagome, it was Inuyasha. For Towa, it is the world. There's something to that.
>>288533593The world and of course, everyone in it. Cute little cast role call. I'm honestly surprised that the shopkeepers didn't make it in.
>>288533593Better development in that subplot than the original manga>Now Shiina is not mogging Sumisawa>But also Rumiko herselfThis fucker, I swear...
>>288533603No matter when we are.
>>288533609But stick baths? Corpses everywhere?
>>288533603Awwwe, this is adorable. We needed some softness after watching Towa get cut in half.

>>288533642How nice.
>>288532210>>288532253>>288532272So this is the Inuyasha Upscale I've heard about.
>>288533733Buyo... spotting? Oh, also, Furinkan noted that: "Moroha is wearing the same pair of pajama's that Kagome wore during her battle with the Mask of Flesh in chapter 25 of Inuyasha." Good catch. That took some effort to recreate.
>>288533755>BuyoTop tier volume confirmed.
>>288533755Appears to be made of traditional paper katashiro (形代). Though maybe a bit more sea butterfly-like?
>>288533790So, here's Shiina's blog post as translated by Furinkan. Split over two posts."I like how the wounds that are nasty to us leave a half-demon pretty unaffected, which is typical of the half-demon characters in the Sengoku Otogi-zoshi world, but it was quite difficult to draw such a big wound on Towa's skin. Also, Kagome's room should look more like it's not normally used. If it's left too much like it was in Inuyasha, it will look like her mother can't accept the loss of her daughter. It's common for children's rooms to become hobby rooms or storage rooms after they move out, but if we change it too much it would have become unrecognizable as a place we know, so I just cleared away the small items on the desk and the wall.In the anime, Moroha and Setsuna stayed at the Higurashi household for a while in the beginning, but this is the first time they've stayed over in the comicalization. As for Moroha, as an answer to the "hug", she clings to her mother in place of Kagome, who cannot be reunited with her. The generation who were children when they watched Inuyasha are now adults, so I think they'll think about the mother's feelings when she can no longer see her daughter. However, Rumiko Takahashi said that "Kagome can't go home," so this is the least I can do."Not sure if Furinkan got the sentiment quite right regarding Kagome's room since it seems to contradict what he says in the next sentence. I did it is good that Shiina thought about that rather than just making it identical. https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2024/11/26/
>>288533829Other half."The scene where Towa breaks down in tears and tells her family, "I had way more fun in the Warring States period than in the present," was one I had planned from the time I wrote the first chapter. The Higurashi family in the anime are "people who love Towa, but just can't understand her way of life." I think accepting and sending someone off even if you can't understand is a realistic sign of parental kindness, but my version of Sota is "someone who wanted to go there if possible, but couldn't." So Towa's parting words needed to be sad for Sota, but at the same time, they needed to be enviable and dazzling.By omitting the violin setting, Setsuna's bond with the Higurashi family became weaker, but she was able to play the role of representing Towa's bond with the Sengoku period well. In fact, I couldn't help but find her cute, as she seemed a little uncomfortable in the modern world, and I was really into writing that.Next time, it's finally time for a showdown with Kirin-sensei. In the comicalization, he only makes a brief appearance at the beginning. But by saying that "he's also Riku inside," I think it will be a fresh development even for those who have already watched the anime. Look forward to it!"Uh, no idea what the violin thing is about.
>>288533840I almost spoiled this for myself in the very first chapter because I looked up the teacher character to see if it was a reference to something in Inuyasha, since the design seemed atypical. Fortunately, I completely forgot by the time I read these chapters so it actually did function as a surprise.
>>288533849End of chapter!
>>288533840Mama Moe gifted her a violin in the anime in episode 2 or 3, and she plays it in a few scenes throughout the show. I think there was a cover back in Volume 3 that showed Setsuna playing it.
>>288533840>>288533864E-EL MAESTRO?!

>>288534033
>>288533169Rin...
>>288533248>Riku never got to motorboat those titsDamn shame.
>>288534045Furinkan notes that: "We see a billboard featuring Shampoo as a cat as Towa and Setsuna wander around Tokyo." They don't note that this appears to be a direct reference to the real life 3D Billboard "Shinjuku Higashi-guchi no Neko". It apparently was first created in 2021 and acts like a real cat (as in... just stretching, meowing, sleeping). The screen it is on is called the Cross Shinjuku Vision, hence "Ranma Vision". Look it up. It is visually interesting. Also, I googled Tokyo Deja Vu Land and got nothing and then I searched the image and found out it is a theme park that exists in both Shiina's Ghost Sweeper Mikami and Zettai Karen Children. One of the panels of it in Zettai Karen Children looks nearly identical.
>>288533371The supermarket truly is one of our most impressive inventions.
>>288534153Tokyo Skytree. Not the same thing as Tokyo Tower.
>>288534183Furinkan mentions that Wacdonald's was in Inuyasha and RIN-NE. It wasn't in anything Rumiko Takahashi prior, as she just used actual McDonald's. I wonder what the first instance of this was in all manga. Okay, it apparently first happened in anime and it was an episode of Cat's Eye. In 1983.
>>288534245Heh, like in MAO.
>>288534256
>>288534265You may remember this guy.
>>288534305
>>288534310Per Furinkan: ""Drat this country's firearm and sword law." - Moroha is not carrying her sword in the modern age due to the illegality of it. Moroha refers to it in hiragana "じゅ-と-ほ-" (Juutouhou) rather than kanji "銃刀法". She refers to the internet in the same fashion (ねっと rather than ネット). The law Moroha is referring to "The Firearms and Swords Possession Control Law" (銃砲刀剣類所持等取締法/じゅうほうとうけんるいしょじとうとりしまりほう/Juuhou toukenrui syojitou torimarihou) was passed on March 10, 1958."
>>288534319But yeah, "root head" or 根の首. This type of creature premiered in the brief special chapter of Inuyasha called Since Then, created for the charity manga Heroes Come Back to help raise money to help people after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and Fukushima nuclear power plant meltdown. Furinkan also notes they showed up in the Yashahime anime episode 1 and 3. The first anime episode apparently just adapted Since Then, which makes a bit more sense than them adapting late unadapted Inuyasha chapters at least. Though I don't think Since Then really works well as a first episode to an anime. It very much is just nostalgic "same ol', same ol'" Inuyasha stuff.
>>288534378
>>288534387I do like this touch.
>>288534428Per Furinkan: ""As the Hyakunin Isshu puts it, 'A morning in disarray leaves one deep in thought.'" - Osamu Kirin is referring to the Hyakunin Isshu (百人一首) is a collection of poems by one hundred poets." That isn't a very helpful note, honestly. Someone will have to check the raws for me to find which poem this actually was.
>>288534453Shiina discusses this setup in the blog post and even mentions similar stories, but amusingly, despite being a Rumiko Takahashi fanatic and a big fan of Inuyasha, he doesn't mention Fire Tripper which features this sort of thing. I don't doubt for a second that Shiina read and enjoyed Fire Tripper, but it is funny how it seems this bit of resemblance is just coincidental.

>>288534795Let's get into the blog post that Furinkan translated for us. I'll be splitting it into parts."Kikyo-oneesama made a special appearance in Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon as The Tree of Ages, but this will probably be her last appearance. Unlike actors, characters don't have a set schedule, so they can be called upon whenever they want. So even if their role in the story is over, they may appear in flashbacks, for example, but when I'm drawing the manga, there are times when I get the feeling "Ah, this girl won't be appearing anymore."Basically, the characters in this manga are those who have come from Rumic World to my workshop temporarily. But even so, they still exist inside me while I'm drawing. They suddenly disappeared after this scene, so I think they must have returned to Rumiko Takahashi-sensei's place. When I'm writing, in my head, it's like a scene in a movie or the set of a drama: "Kikyo-san, we're done. Thank you for your hard work! Clap, clap, clap, clap."By the way, Satsuki Yukino, who plays Kagome, mentioned a funny episode in an interview when she talked about the time of recording Inuyasha. I won't go into the details here, but I touched on it a little in this chapter (laughs). It's a fun episode about the characters inside that is well known to fans of Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2... well, only those who know will laugh."Also, per Furinkan:"It's difficult to presume what Shiina is referencing in regards to an event related by Satsuki Yukino that was alluded to in this chapter and would be known to Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2 fans. Perhaps it could be their interview where Kappei Yamaguchi (Inuyasha and Ranma) repeatedly called Kagome (Satsuki Yukino) "Akane" during the early days of recording. Akane is portrayed by Noriko Hidaka (Kikyo)."The "If you know, you know" bit didn't hit with Furinkan so I assume most Western fans didn't know what he was referencing. I assume it was the Inuyasha getting flustered gag, but I have no clue.
>>288533864Sir, can you please stop schizobabbling and stop trying to destroy the universe.
>>288534838More blog post. Also, I forgot to link it again."It was a lot of fun drawing the half-demon princesses wandering around modern-day Tokyo. I wanted to describe their time there more, but considering the overall balance, it's a bit disappointing that I couldn't devote any more pages to it. The hamburger restaurant where the princesses took a break is the same chain that Kagome sometimes visited in Inuyasha. However, it's a different branch because it's a scene where she says, "After touring the city center, I won't be hungry until I get home, so I'll have a quick meal.""
>>288534305AH SHIT
>>288534678Yeah seems Rin’s dialogue was poorly translated. Viz’s translator seems to have taken it in a “why must you die, this punishment is too severe” way. But the RAWs give us…> どうしてそこまで…!?>Why would you go that far…!?>あなたは本物の桔梗ではないのに…>Even though you’re not the real Kikyō…So the original intent seems to be Rin asking something along the lines of “you’re not even really Kikyō, why would you do all of this for us?”
>>288534851More blog post."The "Flying Root Head" that appeared at the beginning of the anime is introduced here along with the "Root Neck". The setting is that Kirinmaru buried these two types of yokai in a safe place along with the materials in preparation for starting the windmill in the future. Well, you see, if you dry them out, they can be stored in a dormant state for a long time (laughs). The root head that attacked the apartment is assumed to have invaded the water system. That means that even if they get rid of it, repairs will be necessary, which will cause problems for the residents there. The scene where the princesses say goodbye to the Higurashi family should be set at a shrine, so it would be natural for Sota's family, who can no longer live in the apartment, to live with the Higurashi family for a while." Root Neck being Furinkan's more literal translation of 根の首. The flying ones were an anime original, it seems. And yeah, I guess these guys were dormant underground for centuries. Way to plan ahead, guy obsessed with the past. https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2025/01/25/9750005>>288533884Oh, thanks for letting me know. I guess it must've been nice.

>>288534879You'd think it'd cover Moroha's mouth first. Oh, before I forget, last bit of blog."Rumiko Takahashi-sensei was pleased with the setting of "Riku changed his appearance and was next to Towa before she met him [in the past]." It would have been better if we had included hints at this earlier in the story, but honestly, I didn't have time to do that when I was writing the first chapter, so it was unavoidable. However, while it does incorporate a flavor of time-based sci-fi romance similar to The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (時をかける少女/Toki o kakeru shojo) and Somewhere in Time (ある日どこかで/Aru hi dokoka de), the structure towards the end is quite simple, so it looks like it can be wrapped up in 10 volumes."So, yeah, bit funny he didn't mention Fire Tripper. >>288534875That makes a lot more sense.
>>288534897Ah, that's how you use it.
>>288534906End of chapter! Just one more chapter in the penultimate volume.

>>288534952Since after that page, it is bleeding pretty bad and the hair blocks it. Of course, maybe I'm reading into it too much. Sorry.
>>288534963I mean, I will admit that I never really cared for "it'll make the gods unhappy" or "it is unnatural" as a reason for not going ahead with theoretically utopian universal resets or rewrites. So, I appreciate this line from the bad guy.
>>288534992They'll have to do quite some rewriting. And boy, wouldn't it be nice if the children weren't torn apart from their families? Hehehe.

>>288535215Per Furinkan: "Sota's flashback to his childhood with Inuyasha is when they went to help save Kagome from the Mask of Flesh in chapter 26." I always think of it as just "Noh Mask", but I guess Mask of Flesh is more accurate to what it is in the manga. I don't know what term the VIZ localization used. Or the raws used. I might've known at some point.

>>288535306Per Furinkan: "The item around Rion's neck is translated as a "cangue" which is a Chinese implement (known in Chinese as a 枷/jia) used for public humiliations. In the Japanese text it is called a "kubikase" (首枷) which is more often translated into English as a "pillory"."I didn't know what cangue was, but didn't search it up because it was pretty clear in context. I guess VIZ figured this is the closest loanword we have in English.

>>288535367So, as far as ideological debate goes, it isn't much of a rebuttal but it does cover a lot. Chasing after an imagined perfect world at expense of all others under your own dominion is obviously power-hungry narcissism. And that's not even accounting for the fact that this whole plan is an evil comet trying to trick you into doing something even worse (presumably). I certainly prefer this to "this isn't right", even if it is similar in some ways. I just read the blog post (Furinkan's translation of course) and you know what, Shiina explains it well and it did come across in the manga so yeah. I'll be posting it as we get closer to the end.

>>288535557Anyway, I am going to start posting bits of the blog (Furinkan's translation). Try not to get distracted. "The drama is nearing the end. The task of reconstructing the anime and putting it into a simple manga format is even more difficult when you also have to calculate the number of remaining chapters.Amidst all of this, I was able to complete my personal theme, "the feelings of those left behind," and I am quite satisfied with the end result. In the comicalization, Sota is the hidden protagonist, and he is my alter ego. I was so excited when I came up with the idea of setting the road where Moroha and Setsuna go to save Towa next to the apartment complex where they went to save Kagome in Inuyasha. Although he was unable to enter the world of Sengoku Otogi Zoushi, he was able to resolve something that was unfulfilled by playing the role of someone he admired. I think Sota has personally experienced the common story line of "he lives on inside you." Well, Inuyasha-senpai is alive and well in the Sengoku period, though."Such a minor part of the series in terms of chapter count, but I do remember Sota's family questioningly wondering about him when it seems like he is going to follow Towa through time. And of course, Sota's videos will always be my favorite part of this series. You can tell Shiina put his heart into it, even if it was a little funny that Sota grew up to be such a fanatic. https://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2025/01/25/9750056
>>288535599More blog post. "The insanity or incompleteness of Kirin-sensei in the anime version was a variation on the creepiness of the mental structure of the monsters in Sengoku Otogi Zoushi. It's a bit of a shame that they omitted that, but I think the arrangement of making him the same person as Riku was an idea to neatly summarize Riku's theme in a short page count. It was good up until the point where the modern era and the Sengoku period were synchronized, but Kirinmaru and Sesshomaru have been in a matchmaking state for months (laughs), so I want to bring it to a conclusion soon."I think Furinkan mistranslated this, Shiina clearly meant "It's a bit of a shame that [I had to] omit that". And also, I do find it funny that Shiina teases the "meanwhile..." aspect like I do.
>>288535599>You can tell Shiina put his heart into it, even if it was a little funny that Sota grew up to be such a fanatic.I’m gonna be real with you OP, if my sister and I got saved by some feudal era samurai with a sword the size of a car that could jump over a skyscraper, I’d become a bit of a fanatic over him too.
>>288535636More blog post. Sorry, Riku. The suit works for you. "In the part where Towa turns down Kirin-sensei's temptation, right up until the last minute I thought she would just say "I can't throw it away because of the time I spent with the Higurashi family is important to me". However, while I was writing, I received a signal from Towa and Lord Sesshomaru saying "I have a suggestion for this scene". After discussing it, they said "It's because I don't like you!" (laughs). It certainly sounds more like them that way. I've introduced examples of this kind of ad-lib several times before, and receiving suggestions from characters is the best part of writing manga. When you create a scenario in your head, you tend to just put it together with logical consistency, but if you treat the characters as real colleagues and creative partners, they will bring in these kinds of leaps that go beyond logic. I've been very grateful to Mikami and the [Zettai Karen] Children, but I never imagined I'd be able to have such a relationship with Sesshomaru from Rumiko Takahashi-sensei's family. Also, "Kohaku picking up Lord Jaken" was actually an ad-lib from Kohaku, and I was secretly grinning while drawing it. I felt Kohaku's maturity after Inuyasha and thought, "He's grown up.""I do think there's value in making the characters speak naturally. After all, we know that Towa loves her family.
>>288535636>>288535660wait no Riku wait grow your hair out longer again
>>288535660Last bit of blog:"It was a fun job, and the three years went by in a flash. I'm very sad to say goodbye to the characters and the world of the work in just a few more chapters. I feel the pressure to end it nicely, though. I'm also worried about what I'll do with my next project after this is over. There's still quite a bit to do until the conclusion, when the battle with the Grim Comet will be resolved, the battle between Kirinmaru and Sesshomaru will be resolved, and Towa and the others will return to the Sengoku period, so please stay with us...there's still quite a bit to do." >>288535649Fair. I'm so used to these stories having the kids move past the fantastical stuff with remarkable ease, but Kagome never returned after all. It was always "real" to Sota. It is a fun and interesting idea and really expands Sota as a character, since well, he did like Inuyasha (we saw that much in many of the chapters where Sota appeared). I just never could've envisioned it.
>>288535692Hm...?
>>288535660Not to get /lit/ in here but isn’t it a characteristic of understanding a character when they can basically write themselves?
>>288535698End of chapter, end of volume. Thanks for reading! I'll be honest, I didn't expect the Grim Comet showing up 500 years early. This seems like something that shouldn't be possible, but I assume it is some sort of projection or something? No clue. Also, I actually have another note from Furinkan but it pertains to this last page so I couldn't post it prior. Furinkan notes that: ""...what the folks in your time call 'salty ay eff'." - In the original Japanese, Moroha makes much the same comment using modern Japanese slang. There she uses the modern term "gekioko" (げきおこ) which is short for "Gekiokopunpunmaru" (激おこぷんぷん丸). This is a "gyaru" phrase to mean "very angry"." I would make fun of VIZ for their choice of localization, but honestly, the word being localized is so clearly very stupid so it does seem fitting. Feel free to use the thread to discuss anything Yashahime (or Inuyasha) related. I have some stuff I'll posting here and there to bump the thread.I will be dumping volume 10 on Thursday. I hope to see you there. Last one. Time flies.

The only caveat being that this device needs an immense source of power>Sesshōmaru’s soul and/or signature attacks are apparently enough to power said deviceYeah, I can see why people say Yashahime upscaled the setting. Even in a small way I wish I could GIVE him strength as well.”And here we have the perfect demonstration of the power imbalance in the Sessrin relationship being put on full display and why they’ll never have a healthy and equal relationship. Sesshomaru is literally Rin’s caretaker and she feels like she owes everything to him, that’s not conducive to a romantic relationship. At least Shiina actually openly acknowledges this fact instead of hiding it away and pretending like the anime tries to.
>>288534758>Kagome: “Oh Rin, what a brave wife!”OOC count number 16! Why do they keep trying to bend Kagome’s character and make it seem like she’d totally be cool and chill with the Sessrin ship when she would be the first person to call it out as grooming considering how she behaved with Miroku and Koharu? (And the fact that she’s from the Modern Era, so even the age Sesshomaru impregnated an “adult” Rin especially wouldn’t fly with her). >>288534897>"Rumiko Takahashi-sensei was pleased with the setting of "Riku changed his appearance and was next to Towa before she met him [in the past]."Really? Even though it makes the ship look pedo? Considering how strong a stance she took against that one magazine’s grooming scandal that she withdrew all her works from it in protest somehow I doubt that… Unless that was a PR stunt all along and Rumiko has always been okay with adult/minor ships? That wouldn’t make sense considering how she framed the Koharu situation even despite it being the Feudal Era, plus that one anti-lolicon joke in Rinne.>>288535007>Wants to recreate the past with a few things tweaked>Won’t age up Rin to an adult for when she first meets SesshomaruOne job Kirinmaru. Also with Toga around still alive no way would Rin ever get a chance with Sesshomaru.>>288535306>Or just Moroha obviously reminded her of Kagome. That’s how I interpreted it too.>>288535692>I'm so used to these stories having the kids move past the fantastical stuff with remarkable ease, but Kagome never returned after all. It was always "real" to Sota. It is a fun and interesting idea and really expands Sota as a character, since well, he did like Inuyasha (we saw that much in many of the chapters where Sota appeared). I just never could've envisioned it.I do like the added expansion on both Sota and Kohaku’s characters if nothing else. And with this post my commentary for this week’s volume is done as well. What saved this volume was all the heartwarming moments between the Higurashis, Moroha, and InuKag, especially that Moroha sleeping with her grandma scene. Rin still acts and has the mentality of a child unfortunately, and the Kikyo callback was cringe.

Why do Yashahime fan translations keep doing this?
>>288539213>Why do Yashahime fan translations keep doing this?I am assuming some fan agenda may have been involved, but that would just be me hypothesizing.Although I will say that if Treekyō really does have Kikyō’s emotions and memories as this story implies, then her still having feelings for Inuyasha would make sense. Perhaps they were just jumping to conclusions based on the text of her following her heart.I always provide the kanji just in case people want to fact check my own translations for this very reason.
>>288539067>And the fact that she’s from the Modern Era, so even the age Sesshomaru impregnated an “adult” Rin especially wouldn’t fly with herKagome was from the 1990’s. Her values are from 30 years ago.Google what the age of consent was in Japan back then. I dare you.

>>288538643Setsuna was still mad at Moroha for not being very socially conscious, so she was worried she'd misbehave. Not hurt anyone.
>>288539175I'll be honest, Maison Ikkoku did the student-teacher thing pretty directly and that didn't have a fantasy coat of paint on it. Riku growing a bit "older" doesn't really change his and Towa's dynamic. It isn't like he fell in love with her while seeing her grow up, he fell in love with her and then was stuck seeing her grow up in someone else's head. Kind of like in a cult classic movie, now that I think about it. But I can't say what movie, because it would be a spoiler.
>>288538994>And here we have the perfect demonstration of the power imbalance in the Sessrin relationshipPower imbalances are always going to exist in super-powered settings. SessKagu would have still had a power imbalance too because he eclipses Kagura so much in strength, status, renown, and so on.And even if he didn't and she just magically gained all the strength and social standing he had; what's wrong with power imbalances in fiction? Some of the most fun ships have a power imbalance. It's fiction, it's not meant to represent real life.
reminder that if you try to apply real world morals into this setting then not only did Sesshomaru NOT groom Rin, but Kagome and Rin raped Inuyasha and Sesshomaru because they're dogs and dogs cannot consent
>>288539429I mean, she did give Miroku shit.

>>288539429Tokyo prefectural age of consent was 16. only paedophiles obsess this much over "technically legal", normal people have always considered you to be a degenerate if you swung below about 20.
>>288541178You're three years too high there, buddy. That wasn't the age of consent until just three years ago. They're the one obsessing, I'm just pointing out how retarded they are for it, and that's ignoring the fantasy aspects of the setting being thrown in too. Only retarded moralfags obsess and fuss this much over a girl growing up to marry a semi-immortal spirit she met who's going to look the same when she's an old prune.
>>288541538no I'm not. you're confusing the national law with prefectural. every prefecture in Japan sets their own AoC, which supercedes the national law. the national law was 13 at the time, but no prefecture since the 1940s has had it lower than 16. including Tokyo. and regardless, my point was no normal person picks through the AoC law to find the youngest legal girl they can. only age fetishists do that, normal people would look at you and think "what's wrong with you for going after a girl so much younger than you?" even if she's technically legal. I am sick of the paedophile revisionism trying to portray it as if every guy was marrying girls the day they experienced menarche. trying to put a moral impetus on their sexual deviancy.
>>288541692>Ackshually you're confusing the lawsCalm down there, /pol/ice, literally no one cares. You're just moving the goalpost and insinuating me of a point I wasn't even making. Simple fact is Kagome's morals aren't as "modern" as that faggot was implying anymore.
>>288541891>*snerk* look up the age of consent back then *snort*>n-no stop talking about what it actually wasfucking faggot bitch. your argument was "Kagome wouldn't complain because the age of consent was 13". it wasn't, which immediately blows your point out of the water. and regardless, the simple fact is, she would've had the same opinion anyone of that time would've. "why would an adult go after a teenager" regardless of legality. only paedophiles make a conscious effort to memorise and check AoC laws, because normal people don't pursue women young enough for it to matter. Gaolbait was the domain of creepy old men, I'm old enough to remember how normal society actually viewed those people.

>>288538810>>She feels guilty about referring to Sesshomaru with such familiarity...No? She feels FLUSTERED. >>288551141And? She used honorifics with others. She calls Miroku 'Sama' just like Rin does to Sesshōmaru. If Kagome suddenly switched from calling him Sama to just calling him Miroku, that implies a level of intimacy that is usually inappropriate to vocalize in public.

>>288552441>>In response to a post I made detailing on how she’s one of a kind in the IY universeShe's not one of a kind; she's a lowly 1/4 hanyou in a feudal fantasy series hindered by her parents ability sets conditionating her as a character on her own = too normal.
