In 4 and 5 there are really good shots with beautiful backgrounds, some stuffed with meaning. And 4 also comes with a really good scene transition. Lots of scenes are visually impressive, whether it's the perspective, background, angles, etc instead of defaulting to easy and boring options with characters standing directly in a flat background. When it comes to character interaction, there is a lot said by nothing being said. The show is a fan of (long) silences, and a bunch of the interaction or communication is expressed by animation or visuals alone. I especially liked this scene in ep 8 where the dialogue was just Yaeka's and Akane's pointless conversation, but the actual focus was on Botan+chink through visuals and animation.There's often a lot of thought put into many scenes as to what the director or animator wants to express with it. On the other hand, the characters themselves aren't on the same level of quality as the things I praised before, or the romantic plot. They're not by any means bad, just nothing spectacular. These are things that the anime can't improve as much without completely rewriting the thing (also coincidentally the anime original things, including the EDs, are very good). I had similar things to say about Carl's show last season. The plot it had to work with from the LN wasn't good but by focusing on other aspects, the anime was extremely good.Either way, I can see why some people like this (a lot) and why some people don't care for it. It really depends on what aspects of anime you're capable of enjoying.
