Just here to remind you of the best anime.
>>
>>288592499
Undisputed champion
Gotta give it a rewatch or a re-read
>>
>>288592566
Rewatched it last summer. It was amazing. Never a bad episode, it make me laugh, cry and hype beyond belief. Thank you gorilla.
>>
>>288592499
>inconsistency: the anime
funny how they mocked traditional battle shonen endings just to have that with a pretty average villain with 0 connection to the main themes except him being Shoyo. also not enough Zura

coming from a big gintama fan by the way. i touch myself with this image every week
>>
>>288592787
Yeah the ending may have a little more traditionally shonen but overall the experience was great. The funny bits are hilarious, the sad bits are heartbreaking and when it gets serious, it's nailbiting. That first glimpse of action when Hijikata challenges Gintoki will forever be imprinted in my mind and when Benizakura hit, it was so blindingly epic. And it had amazing openings and endings. Also some of the best cast of characters I've ever seen, I absolutely love how they all interact with eachother. It is, and it will remain, my favourite anime of all time.
>>
It certainly ranks among one of the anime.
>>
I hate the final arc and I hate it even more that the gorilla did it twice.

I wasn't aware this was seen as a particularly strong adaptation. I haven't read Gintama either though

Watching Gintama for the plot is completely doing it wrong. I mean you could tell that the writer really didn't care about plot too much especially given how the final movie turned out. I like Gintama for the characters and the comedy. When it did a shounen fighting arc it was just to mix things up so that the comedy wouldn't get stale. At its heart I feel like its trying to mock anime in general and celebrate it to in a sense.
>>
>>288592499
Man we really had nothing to watch in 2006 if we looked fondly at this poor excuse for comedy. This was almost Lucky Star levels of cringe.

Yoshiwara was dogshit apart from the big fight. It was just literal whores waxing poetic about the sun and darkness and the light like it's Kingdom Hearts while you get some panning shots of The district.
>>
>>288592787
But Utsuro does connect to the main themes of the series, as someone who never had any bonds being beaten by Gin's bonds that he has formed throughout the years.
>>
>>288594056
The bad thing about Yoshiwara, actually both Yoshiwara arcs, is that Sorqchi tried to hard to make the villains som3what simpathetic. Worst offender was Hosen.
>>
>>288594063
Yeah he really is meant to be the complete and utter antithesis of what Gin is and stands for. Its not that deep really and doesn't really need to be in order to work.

Also, obvious endgame, even if the gorilla never confirms it.
>>
>Okay Sorachi your last arc dragged so much that we had to end your series before you could properly finish it, but we're giving you a second chance in a different magazine so you can give it the proper ending, please do your best
>lol im going to make the same arc again and also not finish it again because it drags too much
>S-Sorachi sensei please, just end it. We're giving you an unprecedented third chance to do it
>lol lmao
Why is he like this?
>>
>>288594286
Gorilla thought the Animal Protection laws would let him get away with it.
>>
>>288593706
Some people nitpick at it but the fans love it. Biggest complaint I see is the that the jokes are about cultural references from Japan which westerners won't understand which is fair but the overall humour is still strong and universal. Even without the cultural references you'll still laugh your ass off and if you actually want to learn those references you can high seas the old fansubs which got a little box up top that explains the references in detail which is really cool if you wanna learn more about Japan in general. And when it comes to action stuff it's top tier. Benizakura arc has some amazing sword fights with Gintoki where he awakens his old fighting instinct for example and it only gets better from there. And through the whole thing, so many of the recurring side characters get their own episode or two for themselves and how they interact with the wold and the main cast. It makes almost every character feel important rather than just having a few favourites and the rest who cares. The ending may be a little lackluster but the whole ride towards it is an absolutely wonderful experience that you will never regret spending time on. I would absolutely recommend giving it a watch at least until Benizakura and then deciding if you wanna keep at it to the end. The quality of every arc is top all the way through and if that's what you're looking for in an anime, this one is right for you.

>>288593865
Ah I think it was charming. It was the first time I was introduced to the hardboiled concept and Kozenigata being a total opposite to the definition of it was hilarious to me. Might not be one of the best but I definitely wouldn't call it bad.

>>288594056
Kagura's bit with the Yato make that arc good on it's own. The rest is just a bonus.

>>288594276
This might be surface level deep but it still feels good.

I like their relationship because Sorachi always made it clear how much they matter to each other without there being the need to spell it out constantly. I also think the complaint store chapter, which a good chunk people treat it as just a troll by the gorilla, ties up nicely to their exchange in Benizakura, how complaints are also a form of expressing love.

I do like the way Gintama approaches shipping they propose a pairing once in awhile and they go: "Will they? Won't they? Maybe." And then just leave it at that. You can't convince though that Gin will wind up with no real relationship in the end because all he wants to do is fuck hookers get drunk and be depressed all the time.

Hello gentlemen yes Tsukuyo best girl thank you for your attention have a nice evening
>>
>>288594415
I just think the intro overstay its welcome, so is harder to connect to the episode and characters. Second episode was great in that regard. The family joke in that deathly trap was one of the best in the entire series.
>>
>>288594063
i didnt like the whole humanity=evil
>>
>>288594934
Characters mattering and their interactions is my favourite thing about the show. How the characters are genuinely connected to each other. It makes watching it so much more enjoyable.

>>288595065
He'd totally get 'i can fix him'd by Otae or Tsukuyo.

>>288595120
Tsukuyo nice and likewise.

>>288595335
Ah maybe the start got a little drawn out but it still leads to something great. Yes having a whole family tree appearing in a death trap was unforgettable.
>>
>>288594934
Its funny how both Gintoki's and Tae's other love interest parallel each other. Both have the stalker (Kondo and Sarutobi) and the one who has problems comforting to a certain gender role (Tsukuyo and Kyuubei). Gintoki and Tae are also the modern day version of Otose and her husband

I like Gintoki with men more.
Like the majority of the fandom
>>
I have to say, I stopped caring for the serious arcs at around the white Shinsegumi guys. It started to feel really formulaic.
>>
Best arcs are the comedy ones with both Yorozuya and Shinsengumi doing bullshit.
Even better if there's Zura around.

I love the show but the only editons I have access to have randomly fucked up subtitles or its completely misaligned. The dub has horrible voice actors too so that doesn't help. Its very frustrating.
>>
>>288603337
>The dub
Gintama has a dub? Fucking how, this shit is untranslatable.
>>
>>288603373
There's about 100 dubbed episodes but yeah its shit because none of the jokes work in English and whoever did translate it completely switched what the characters are saying, I don't bother with it.

The Italian dub is really good, but it changed all the references to Italian shows(except the animes, since basically all the references were to anime already aired in Italy at the time).

I started watching it recently considering the author is also doing a new series on jump, it's pretty funny so far
Does the anime adapt everything from the manga?
>>
>>288605851
Everything but 1 or 2 chapters plus some pages here and there.

pretty much everything, it animated it as the manga was on-going so when it ran out of source material they inserted anime-only arcs
or just padded out the time whilst bitching about the author
>>
>>288606000
This image is peak comedy.
>>
>>288605789
I like the serious arcs. Even more since they're not one after another so you get some hype mixed with all the funny.

Oh the memories. I love Gintama's soundtrack, such a good vibe. Music in general is great in that show.

I was going through the playlist trying to find it and recognising everything as the theme for this and that
I didn't bother watching ginpachi-sensei though, the premise always seemed like it was really digging the bottom of the barrel for more animated works

Madao is the best character ever created, thats for sure
>>
>>288606642
You hear it and the memories come flooding. Great soundtrack. I haven't watched Ginpachi-sensei either yet but I plan on it. I like the premise though, those bits you'd see in the main anime were funny and enjoyable to me. Hopefully the spinoff will be the same.

>>288606777
Has an awesome theme song too. Such a good character and the jokes around "madao" always were funny as fuck. I remember when rewatching I watched it on aniwatch and the subs translated it to "dork". Made me so fucking pissed I closed the tab and went hunting for the old fansubs.

Anyone who can do a kinniku buster is a cool guy in my book.
>>
>>288607948
He did a Hasegawa buster though.
>>
>>288608010
Kinnikubuster is named after Kinnikuman because Kinnikuman uses it so Hasegawa using it makes it a Hasegawa buster yes.

Side note, that was an excellent arc.
