You are learning Japanese by watching anime and reading manga, right anon?
>>
I do read manga in Japanese but I still mostly watch anime with subs. I have watched a few things recently without them though. I started reading manga in Japanese because there was a lot of stuff I wanted to read that wasn't getting translated, but anime doesn't have that problem, and I haven't watched any of the stuff people usually point to that have the translations where they shove in memes and western slang.
>>
>>288595268
On the whole, subtitles tend to be pretty loose, so you're losing information whenever you read them over watching with Japanese subs. Crunchyroll subs are notoriously bad and contain a lot of evidence of MTL usage.

Watching anime is an ass way to improve japanese. Just memorize 500 Kanji after learning the kanas and some grammar, read a few hundred raw manga volumes while memorizing the rest of the jouyou kanji, and then try watching some JRPGs or visual novels where native japanese people read the dialogue out loud for you. That's how I learned. You're welcome.
>>
>>288596579
You probably suck ass at Japanese. Anime is the best way to learn. Go back to /v/ or something, loser.

It depends on what you want to do with Japanese anon
When most of what you do is read, your listening/speaking skills will fall way behind your reading skills.
>>
>>288595281
>so you're losing information whenever you read them over watching with Japanese subs
As long are you're not deaf you will still hear the original audio and pick up the things you know. Japanese subs aren't always available and you in order to read them at full speed you need some reading experience. Games and comics are more forgiving in that regard. Watching without subs is the alternative but you're going to miss out on some aspects as well. In the end there is no perfect solution and you have to compromise on one thing or the other until you've built up more training. Just don't waste your time with dubs or manga/game translations.
>>

>>
>>288596903
You absolutely do. I learned a fair bit of vocabulary and grammar simply from watching subbed anime and drama and when I started learning for real it made the start easier. Reading English subs takes very little effort or attention so you can easily use them as a backup to ensure you don't stumble over a new word.
>>
>>288596957
Coomers like you typically suck ass at Japanese
>>
>>288596943

>>
>>288596965
Your vocabulary is really weak
>>
>>288596973
And the sheer amount of homonyms don't help either.
>>
>>288596961
No, the subs are mostly inaccurate and you'll miss 99% of what's actually being said. Look at how "fluent" anon completely failed at 30 second clip from a kid's anime. That's why English subs don't work
>>
>>>/wsg/6167765
this is the truly fast dialogue, desu! orz
>>
>>288596983
What homophone could actually trip you up in context? Are you retarded?
>>
>>288596996
If there's only audio like the link above, I will certainly be tripped up. At least the different kanji (and illustrations/manga, if any) eases the context barrier, even if it means having to look up yet another.
>>
>>288597013
>muh context
I promise you the visuals would not help your dekinai ass out if you seriously are that lost
>>
>>288596984

Are you actually deaf? It's flat out impossible to miss out on that much if you can hear.

Depends what you mean by "decent amount". Of course you can learn some words and even string together and understand some sentences in Japanese eventually. You're still illiterate though, which puts a very low ceiling for the kind of understanding and conversations you can have.
Most anons if we forced them to go to Japan and speak Japanese constantly (in a non-educated/workplace context, so very day to day stuff) could learn to speak and understand in 6-12 months, but at the end of the day you would still be a person who can't read and thus is always limited to fairly simple conversations.
>>
>>288597423
Reading is the key to learning.
>>
>>288595198

I've been studying it for 2.5 years now, but I started doing heavy immersion too late (only like 5-6 months ago) so my comprehension level is pretty shit. Recently started reading isekai ojiisan and hell it filters me hard. I also dropped anki completely. I only ever did like 1k kanji and learned at most 3k words (I can't even remember most of them anymore). Shit is pretty grim. I'm still trying to read every weekday and recently started watching japanese traveling vlogs (can understand 20% at most) but it's very demoralizing. At this pace it will probably take 15 more years.

No, I stopped using “anime” for it because “anime” was a mistake, it's nothing but trash.
I use some comic books for it though which are generally better but in general only shit gets adapted to animation. For audio input I just use Youtube documentaries, reviews and a.s.m.r. tapes nowadays.

The last thing I actually watched was Betrothed to my Sister's Ex, mostly because it was le “perfect N1+” without any subtitles and as I was watching it I was just “What the fuck am I even doing watching this to improve? This shit is colossal garbage for and by the grossest permavirgins known to man.” and then I just kissed it goodbye and life has never been better.

Anime is for virgins, anime is trash. The comic books that get animated are the virginware copium for the most part. Better ones typically get adapted to live action anyway.

It could be a factor, but the reality is just I feel that the things I like rarely get adapted. Most of these “anime” I watched I would never read the source material of because it's bad.

The last few things I did legitimately enjoy, as in Do-Over-Damsel and the start of Daemon Lord 2099 I did end up reading the comic book version of as well so I'm pretty sure it has more to do with themes, and honestly even those were plagued by the kind of stuff that seems to basically be required for a title to be animated and it was a detriment to it.

I can mostly follow anime, but I still have trouble parsing everything quickly enough even if I know the vocab. I just need more practice.
Manga is more of an issue because I'm less willing to tolerate abiguity in text so it takes me forever to read while anime is real time by nature so if I don't catch something it's gone by.
My main long term target is playing japanese games through and that has a pretty high skill floor. I might be able to understand dialogues and stuff, but mechanical text is difficult and I still suck at kanji. I've seen games that will have subs with full furigana for simple cutscene dialogue where I don't need it but for ability descriptions get fucked. If you aren't fully literate you ain't reading that.

Depends on the specific game. If you compare fantasy games and fantasy anime there won't be a big difference. But obviously there are far more games out there and games that cover topics that never get mentioned in anime.
What's special about games is that you have some feedback for your text comprehension. With a passive medium you could just brush over it without understanding anything but in a game you have to follow instructions or collect clues and therefore can mainly succeed if you get things right.

It's faster to grind flashcards and then watch raw anime to commit vocab to memory than try to figure it all out through subbed anime.
>>
>>288598483
Kind of. Like I said, the vocabulary is larger, but you can generally take it at your own pace. Unlike a show, games are repetitive and contain a majority of second-person speech aimed at the player. This is far easier to follow as a learner than an anime which goes at its own pace and does not tailor the conversation towards the viewer.
Games have a kind of book feel to them, with slow dialogue and pacing, whereas anime is faster and contains more punchy dialogue, which can be harder to follow.

Even if you grind flash cards, you still gotta figure it out as you read subs. The syntax won't make sense until you learn it in context.

What the fuck is going on in this thread

Japanese learning.
>>
>>288598391
Depends what, most "serious" games will require a higher baseline level of literacy to understand. It's difficult to make a build if you don't understand what the abilities do pretty well. At least I find to be a significant barrier. You can engage with the game not understanding the plot, but that ironically is the easier part anyway.
>>
>>288598774
Abilities and build trees are probably the least of your worries from a syntactic sense. I can't think of any games that I've played where the ability descriptions were particularly hard to follow, but I can think of plenty of confusing lines and story beats.

I'm an ameriboo. I only worship the United States of fucking America. I don't want to learn no ching chong.
>>
>>288598829
Think of it more as you're a code breaker serving your country in WWII. You've gotta intercept and decrypt those goddamn Japs' messages for the good of the US. The Japanese are such arrogant bastards that they think no American can ever crack their code.

Here is the transcript since the OP doesn't seem to even understand japanese

わかっとる無理を生じて頼んでるんだよ第1級ヘリコプターの出動。何?嵐もくせもあるか?一人の少女の命がたな。もしもし、もし本部?どどうしたんだ応答を。隊長機械がぶっ壊れます。方針書はこの気象状態のせいです。

Now japan got pozzed by western politics or their media is aimed now at zoomers so i cant enjoy new shit anymore

The only silver lining is being able to consume old shit, stuff before 2020 before covid fried their brains.

Quit crying, there's plenty of good media. Also, visual novel readers suck ass at Japanese. All of you guys are a joke.
>>
>>288599213
does your schizophrenia makes you think you understand japanese?

>>288599299
could be kousinjyou but idk where it's from, there's a reason why every japanese TV shows and youtube videos come with CC
>>
>>288599349
No, it absolutely could not. Quit acting like you know Japanese. Dumber people could actually fall for your bullshit.
>>
>>288599378
uh yeah it can, lots of manzai acts rely on misheard japanese, even their dajare relies on misheard phrasese. did you even ignore what I wrote how all japanese digital media comes with CC? do you even understand japanese?

or maybe I'm just falling for the bait
>>
>>288599349
>nihon siki
I will put a curse on you and your kin for 1000 generations

also yes, you are falling for bait from some absolute dekinai with heaploads of unearned confidence
>>
>>288599430
Are you seriously invoking dad joke rules into a scene from a shonen anime where a girl is danger during a thunderstorm. You might just be the dumbest motherfucker alive.
>>
>>288599430
>brings up manzai for no reason
damn dude you have no clue what you're talking about lol

I guess 出動 is a little hard to catch but otherwise this is pretty ez dunno what the fuss is about

Alright big guy, now see if you can translate THIS

Yeah, didn't fucking think so. Bitch.
>>
>>288599480
i'll take nihon siki over whatever the hell is korean romanization
>>
>>288599590
the fuss is that you failed to both understand and transcribe it
pretty funny stuff
>>
>>288599148
Here is differencies from how I hear it.
> 生じて
「承知で」
> 第1級
「大至急」
> の出動
I hear like there is 「を」 after it, but I'm not sure.
> 嵐もくせも
「嵐もくそも」
> 命がたな
「命がだな」
> 方針書
I can't catch words here, but I think here is more likely「送信不能」as anon wrote earlier.
> のせいです
「のせいですよ」
> 考えてくだされ
「考えてくだされる」
> 見せ
For me it sounds like 「見いせん」, but I'm not sure.
>>
>>288599552
Don't be mad at me just because you can't follow a simple shonen anime lol
>>
>>288599654
Dunno what ur talking about bro, it’s just Japanese. Like you listen to it and understand what they are saying it’s not that hard idk
>>
>>288599669
>Can't transcribe it
KWAB
>>
>>288599661
Could be, admittedly pretty genius bait sending clip from an anime without context. Radio drama would be clearer since every word's enunciated, but then again it won't make as good a bait.
>>
Been watching anime at least 20 years and all I can tell you are funny words like "EEEEEE SODAIO??"
>>
>>288599760
>SODAIO
oh no
>>
>>288599732
Also the pronunciation on that audio is not very clear and there is noise. Even if it was in my native language, I could easily not catch some words (I actually often don't catch some words when viewing movies in my native language).

>>288595198
and you're learning proper pronunciation as well, right?
>>
>>288598372
nah that's just a voice to text transcribe error of "all" but thanks
>>
>>288596728
You still need to learn how the language works and the logic behind japanese words. You can't reach a decent level without knowing kanji. Then you can gradually practice your output, or listening, and anime won't add as much if you already learned its vocabulary through manga. But sure, there isn't a single unified way to learn
